ከሃያ ዓመታት በፊት ከኢራን ወደ ጀርመን የመጣው የቀድሞ ሙስሊም፤ ጃሊል ማሻሊ እና ጠበቆቹ፤ “እገዳው እንደ ሃሳብን በነፃነት የመግለጽ እና የእምነት ነፃነትን የመሳሰሉ መሰረታዊ ሰብአዊ መብቶችን ይጥሳል፣ይህም ጥልቅ እምነትን ለሌሎች የማካፈል መብትን ይጨምራል። ክርስትናን የተቀበለው ጃሊል ጽሑፉን ለማስወገድ እስካሁን አልፍለገም”

ጃሊል ከቤተሰቡ ጋር ኢራን እያለ እስልምና ለእርሱ ትልቅ ትርጉም ነበረውው። “ከቤተሰቦቼ ሁሉ የበለጠ ሃይማኖተኛ ነበርኩ እና አብዝቼ እጸልይ ነበር። አይሁዶችን እና ክርስቲያኖችን እጠላ ነበር እናም እነሱን መግደል እመርጣለሁ። በዚህ መንገድ ጀነት የምገባ መስሎኝ ነበር።” ይላል ጃሊል ማሻሊ።

በዚያን ጊዜ ክርስትናን የተቀበለች አንዲት የቀድሞ ሚስቱ ጓደኛ ትጎበኘዋለች፤ ” የሆነ ወቅት ላይ ከእኔ ጋር መጸለይ ትችላለህን” ብላ ጠየቀችኝ። እኔ አጥባቂ ሙስሊም እንደመሆኔ በፍጹም አልፈልግም ነበር። ግን ፈቃደኛ መሆኔን አሳየኋት። እግዚአብሔር መከራዬን ይወስድልኝ እና ልጁም ለመሆን አንደምፈልግ ጠየቀችኝ። በእስልምና ሰዎች የአላህ ባሮች ብቻ ናቸውና የምትለው ነገር በፍጹም አልገባኝም ነበር።”

በሆነ ወቅት ላይ ተዓምር ተከሰተ፤ ” ህመሜ ጠፋ እና የሚገርመኝ ደግሞ ተመልሶ አልመጣም። ኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ያንን እንዳደረገ ተናገረች እና በኢራን የተማርኩትን የፋርስ ቋንቋ መጽሐፍ ቅዱስን ሰጠችኝ።”

ለታክሲ ነጂው ይህ ረጅም ጊዜ የሚወስድ የውስጥ ትግል ይጀምራል። “ብዙ ጊዜ መጽሐፍ ቅዱስን አነብ ነበር ነገር ግን ቁርኣንንም ደጋግሜ አነሳለሁ። በመጨረሻም፣ መሀመድ እና ኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ምን ያህል እንደሚለያዩ መደምደሚያ ላይ ደረስኩ፣ እግዚአብሔር በልቤ ውስጥ የሰጠኝን እሱን መካድ እንደማልችል ነው የተረዳሁት።”

ክርስቲያን ለመሆን ያደረገው ውሳኔ ሕይወቱን በእጅጉ ይለውጠዋል። “ከእንግዲህ የአላህን ፈቃድ ለማግኘት የተቻለኝን መሞከር የለብኝም። ከቀዶ ጥገናዬ በኋላ በጀርመን መኖር ቀጠልኩ። እዚህ ወደ እርሱ የሜወስደውን መንገድ ለሌሎች ለማሳየት ሕይወቴን ልጠቀምበት እፈልጋለሁ።” በጥንካሬ መልክ የቀድሞው ሙስሊም ወደ ውጭ ይመለከታል። “እርሱን (ኢየሱስ ክርስቶስን)ገና የማያውቁ በጣም ብዙ ሰዎች አሉ።” ይላል።

ፀረ-ክርስቲያን እና ፀረ-አይሁድ ሙአዚን ጥሪ በብዙ ከተሞች ውስጥ ቀድሞውኑ ይሰማል። እስልምና ሰርጎ-ገብ በሆነ መንገድ ይተዋወቃል እና “ካፊሮች” በተዘዋዋሪ ዛቻ (በአረብኛ ቢሆንም) ማንም ባለስልጣን ይህንን አይቃወምም። ነገር ግን በታክሲ ውስጥ ፍጹም ሰላማዊ የሆነ የመጽሐፍ ቅዱስ ጥቅስ መለጠፍ ያስቀጣል። ለዚህም ባለሥልጣናቱ በእርግጠኝነት አንዳንድ መደበኛ የሆኑ ምክንያቶችን ያገኛሉ። ክርስቲያኖች ጉዳዩን በቅርበት ሊከታተሉት ይገባል። ምክንያቱም በመጽሐፍ ቅዱስ ላይ መታመን በእርግጠኝነት በጀርመን ውስብስብ ችግሮች ሊያስከትል ይችላልና።

ለእስልምና ጨረቃ ልዩ መብቶች?

ይህ በብዙ ምክንያቶች አስደንጋጭ የሆነ ክስተት ነው። አንደኛ፡ መንግስት እራሱን ወደ የነጻነት ጠላቶች ቋጠሮ እየቀየረ በመሆኑ ነው። ጃሊል ማሻሊ እንዳለው፣ በተለጣፊው የሚያጉረመርሙትና የሚረበሹት ግለሰቦች የቱርክ-ሙስሊም ታክሲ ነጅ ባልደረቦች ብቻ ናቸው። “የቀድሞ ሙስሊም ስለነበርኩና አሁን ክርስቲያን ስለሆንኩ ከዳተኛ ይሉኝ ነበር። እናም ተለጣፊውን ካላነሳሁ ክስና ቅሬታ እንደሚያቀርቡብኝ ይዝቱብኝ ነበር።” ይላል ጃሊል። በተለይ ማሻሊን ያሳሰበው የክርስቲያኖችን የእምነት ነፃነት ለመገደብ የሚሞክሩት እነዚሁ አሽከርካሪዎች የራሳቸውን ታክሲዎች የቱርክን ባንዲራን ወይም ኢስላማዊውን ጨረቃን የሚያሳዩ ተለጣፊዎች ሲሞሏቸው መታየቱ ነው። ይህ የፖለቲካ ወይም የሃይማኖት ማስታወቂያ አይደለምን?ነገር ግን የኤሰን ከተማ ቃል አቀባይ ለWELT ጋዜጣ እንዳረጋገጡት የቱርክ ባንዲራ በታክሲ መስተዋት ላይ በይፋ እንዲሰቀል አይፈቀድም። ነገር ግን ቱርክ ዝም ተብለዋል ሙስሊሞቹን ለመክሰስ ማንም የሞከረ የለም።

ያለበለዚያ ጀርመን ሁል ጊዜ ለውጭ አገር ተስማሚ መሆን ትፈልጋለች ፣ ለማንኛውም የውጭ ነገር ጠንካራ አቀባበል ባህል ያላት ፣ ግን ያ እዚህ ላይ እንደማይተገበር ግልፅ ነው። ታክሲ ነጂው ጃሊል የሚከተለው የክርስትና እምነት ግን ባለሥልጣናቱን እንደሚረብሽ ግልጽ ነው። ክርስቲያኖች ፥ ይህ ለመረዳት አስቸጋሪ ቢሆንም ፥ ቀስ በቀስ በተለየ መንገድ ማሰብን መማር አለባቸው። እናስብ ማሻሊ ከቁርዓን የተወሰደ ጥቅስ ከታክሲው ላይ ለጥፎ ቢሆን ኖሮ፤ ለምሳሌ “አላሁ አክበር!” (አላህ ከሁሉም የበለጠ ታላቅ ነው)የሚለውን ጥቅስ፣ ማንንም ባለስልጣን በዚህ ባልተረበሸ ነበር። ለመከልከል ውይንም ለመክሰስ ማንም ባልደፈረ ነበር። እስልምናን ማስቆጣት አይቻልም። ይህ በብዙ የፍርድ ቤት ውሳኔዎች ታይቷል ፣ይህም ተመሳሳይ ወንጀሎችን የፈፀሙት ባላገሬው ጀርመን በሆኑበት ጊዜ ለሙስሊሞቹ የበለጠ ገር መስለው በተደጋጋሚ መታየታቸው ነው።

ኢስላማዊ ጨረቃ ይፈቀዳል ፥ ኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ግን ይከለከላል?

እስካሁን ድረስ፣ እዚህ ያሉት አብዛኞቹ ሰዎች አሁንም የመሠረታዊ ሕጋችን ሐሳብን በነፃነት የመግለጽ እና የሃይማኖት ነፃነትን የሚያረጋግጥ ነው ብለው ያስባሉ። ወይስ የሆነ ነገር ተቀይሯል እና እስካሁን አላስተዋልነውም? ማሻሊ ከኢራን መጥቶ እዚህ በኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ማመን፣ ማለትም ከእስልምና የወጣ ሰው መሆኑ ትኩረት የሚስብ ነው። በኢራን የሙላህ ኢስላም አምባገነንነት ሥርዓት በኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ላይ ያለውን እምነት በታክሲ ውስጥ ይፋ ለማድረግ ፈጽሞ አስቦ አያውቅም ነበር። ቢያንስ የሞት ፍርድ ካልሆነ ከባድ የእስር ቅጣት ይጠብቀዋል። በእስልምና እንዲህ ነው የተጻፈው። ነገር ግን በጀርመን ውስጥ ደህንነት ተሰምቶት ነበር።

ጃሊል ማሻሊ እንዲህ ብሏል፦ “ጀርመን ውስጥ በመጽሐፍ ቅዱስ ጥቅስ ምክንያት እንዲህ ዓይነቱን ቅጣት እቀጣለሁ ብዬ በጭራሽ አስቤው አላውቅም። “በኢራን ይህ ነገር በእኔ ላይ መድረሱ አያስገርምም። ነገር ግን በጀርመን፣ ነፃነት ከምንም በላይ ክቡር በሆነባት ሀገር? ለእኔ የመጽሐፍ ቅዱስ ጥቅሱ የምሥክርነት መንገድ ነው።”

“ኢየሱስ ሕይወቴን ስለለወጠው ለማንም ልመክረው የምችለው ከሁሉ የተሻለው ነገር ይህ ነው። ለዚያም ነው ማየት ለሚፈልግ ማንኛውም ሰው በመኪናዬ ላይ ተለጣፊው ያለኝ። ችግር ለመፍጠር አልፈልግም, ነገር ግን ምንም ስህተት አልሰራሁም። ሁሉም ሰው እምነቱን በነፃነት የሚገልጽባት ለዚህች ሀገር አመስጋኝ ነኝ። ኢ-ፍትሃዊ ቅጣት ይግባኝ በማለት በዚሁ መቀጠል እንደምችል ተስፋ አደርጋለሁ” ሲል ጃሊል ማሻሊ ተናግሯል።

💭 The city of Essen has fined the German taxi driver Jalil Mashali because of a Bible text on his vehicle.

This was confirmed on Tuesday by Sofia Hoerder, spokeswoman for the legal human rights organization ADF International, when asked by Reformatorisch Dagblad. The fine was 88.50 euro; much less than the expected 1,000 euros.

Mashali received a letter from the city of Essen in October 2023 threatening him with a fine if he did not remove the sticker reading “Jesus – I am the Way, the Truth and the Life” from his taxi. According to the city, this is religious advertising. It is considered inappropriate as taxis have a public function.

Both Mashali and ADF International believe the ban violates basic human rights such as freedom of expression and freedom of religion, including the right to share deeply held beliefs with others. The Christian convert has so far refused to remove the text.

Mashali is appealing the fine to the city of Essen, supported by the human rights organisation. Until then, the taxi driver will not pay, Herder argues.

If the administrative body does not withdraw the fine, the case may be taken to court.

Surgery

The Iranian Muslim Jalil Mashali (51) moved to Germany for a surgery in 2001. There he became a Christian, he tells during a visit by a reporter in Essen.

Passengers rush to their trains; taxis drive to and fro. Dark clouds hang over Essen West train station. At any moment, the rain could erupt.

At the stroke of half past nine, a yellow Volkswagen Caddy drives into the taxi rank. A cross hangs from the interior mirror; the Christian radio station ERF Plus sounds softly in the background. Mashali sits in front.

Breadwinner

“I was born in 1972 in the Iranian metropolis of Ahvaz and grew up in a family of 10 children,” Mashali begins his story. “My father died in 1980 during the Iraq-Iran war. I was eight years old at the time. Because our family had lost the breadwinner, I had to start selling cigarettes, water and falafel on the streets.”

At the age of 13, Mashali is hit by a bus and has to undergo 17 operations on his leg. Yet he picks up his life in the years that follow. He marries, has two sons and earns a living as a civil servant at Ahvaz city hall.

Paradise

Islam means a lot to Mashali during this period. “I was the most religious of all my family and prayed a lot. I hated Jews and Christians and preferred to kill them. That way, I thought I would enter paradise.”

In 2001, Mashali moves to Essen for medical treatment. “I kept having a lot of problems walking and was in a lot of pain. On the advice of a cousin, I then went to Germany. Possibly, they could do something for me there.”

Battle

In the hospital, the taxi driver is experiencing a tough time. “After surgery, the pain was so severe that morphine hardly helped. I wanted to drive my wheelchair to the fourth floor of the hospital and jump down.”

At that time, he is visited by a friend of his ex-wife. “She had become a Christian and asked if she could pray with me. I didn’t want to, as I was a faithful Muslim. Still, I allowed it. She asked if God would take away my suffering and called me His child. I didn’t understand any of that. In Islam, people are only servants of Allah.”

A miracle happens. “My pain was gone and, to my surprise, did not come back either. She said Jesus had done that and gave me a Bible in Persian, the language I had learnt in Iran.”

Quran

For the taxi driver, this is when a long period of internal struggle begins. “I often read the Bible but also picked up the Quran again and again. Eventually, I came to the conclusion of how different Mohammed and Jesus were. God gave into my heart that I could no longer deny Him.”

The decision to become a Christian changes his life dramatically. “I no longer have to try my best to find favour with Allah. After my surgery, I continued to live in Germany. I want to use my life here to show others the way to Him.” With a wistful look, the ex-Muslim looks outside. “There are so many people who do not yet know Him.”

Aggressive

Although he has it much better in Germany than in Iran, things are not going well for Mashali either. The taxi driver pulls up his trouser leg a little. A prosthesis becomes visible. “This does not always make my work easy, and climbing stairs is also difficult,” he says. To make ends meet, Mashali has to work 10 to 12 hours daily. “It’s tough, but God provides my bread every day. I don’t deserve that. In my prayers, I am not always faithful. Yet He gives what I need. That is grace.”

He tries to share something about the Christian faith with everyone, whoever gets into his taxi. “With Muslims, I am alert. Some of them react aggressively. That is why it is sometimes better to keep my mouth shut. As Zechariah wrote: “Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit.”

Islamic Crescent is Okay, Jesus Christ Not?

So far, most people here still assume that our Basic Law guarantees freedom of expression and freedom of religion. Or has something changed and we just haven’t noticed it yet? It is interesting that Mashali comes from Iran and came to faith in Jesus Christ here, i.e. a convert from Islam. In the mullah dictatorship of Iran, he would never have thought of making his faith in Jesus Christ public in a taxi. He would at least be given a serious prison sentence, if not the death penalty. This is how it is written down in Islam. But he felt safe in Germany.

Otherwise our country always wants to be foreigner-friendly, with a strong welcoming culture for everything foreign, but that obviously doesn’t apply here. The Christian faith that the driver professes is obviously disturbing. Christians must – even if this is difficult to understand – gradually learn to think differently. Let’s assume that Mashali had attached a quote from the Koran to his taxi, such as “Allahu akbar” (Allah is greater), then it is very likely that no authority would have bothered with him. You wouldn’t have dared to do that. You can’t make Islam angry. This is already shown by the many court verdicts, which seem to be much more lenient than when the perpetrators of comparable crimes are local Germans.

The anti-Christian and anti-Jewish muezzin call can already be heard in many cities. Islam is advertised in a penetrating way and the “infidels” are indirectly threatened (albeit in Arabic), no authority objects to this. But an absolutely peaceful quote from the Bible in a taxi is punished. The authorities will certainly find some formal justification. Christians should follow the matter closely. Because relying on the Bible can certainly cause complications in our country

Special rights for the Islamic Crescent?

This is shocking for several reasons. Firstly, because the state is apparently turning itself into a stooge of enemies of freedom. According to Mashali, only individual Turkish-Muslim colleagues were bothered by his sticker. “They called me a traitor because I used to be a Muslim and became a Christian. And they threatened that they would complain about me if I didn’t remove the sticker.” What particularly bothers Mashali is that the same drivers who are trying to restrict religious freedom for Christians have decorated their own taxis with stickers depicting the flag of the Turkish state or show the Islamic crescent. Isn’t this political or religious advertising? But. A spokeswoman for the city of Essen also confirmed to WELT that the Turkish flag is not officially allowed to be displayed on the outside of a taxi. But it has no consequences.

Message

Mashali does not have many passengers today. “Normally, it is busier,” he says as he deftly steers his car through the busy streets of Essen. He has barely finished speaking when a message appears on the dashboard.

“A customer,” Mashali calls out. At a drab flat, he stops his car. A man of about 70, wearing a blue coat and hat, gets in. He is barely seated when the taxi driver begins to narrate. “I risk a fine of up to 10,000 euros because I have Bible text on my taxi. The government says it is religious advertising, and that is forbidden.” The man replies: “Whatever the city says will be fine, won’t it?” Mashali shakes his head. “I don’t agree with that.” The elderly man hums something unintelligible. Then, more clearly, “This is where I have to get out”. He presses a tenner into the taxi driver’s hands and then bolts down a side street.

“That I risk such a high fine in Germany because of a Bible text is incomprehensible to me,” says Mashali. “That this would happen to me in Iran is not surprising. But in Germany, a country where freedom is paramount? For me, the Bible verse is a way of witnessing.”

“Jesus is the best thing I could recommend to anyone because he changed my life. That’s why I have the sticker on my car for anyone who is interested to see. I’m not looking to cause trouble, but I haven’t done anything wrong. I am grateful for this country where everyone should be free to share their faith. I hope to be able to continue to do so by appealing the unjust fine,” said Jalil Mashali.

“In a free society, the government should not be silencing peaceful expressions of faith. Jalil’s actions are protected by the basic human right to freedom of religion, which includes the right to share one’s deeply held convictions with others. The state must refrain from unjustly interfering with this freedom.”

Graffiti

A 1998 law is the reason for charging Mashali, according to the city of Essen. At the time, the Federal Court ruled that taxis have an important public function. Therefore, religious texts are considered inappropriate.

According to Mashali, the problem lies deeper. “Germany has lost its Christian roots. See that church over there?” Mashali points to a building spray-painted with graffiti. “Church services used to be held there, but now it is empty. That’s because people don’t need God anymore.”

In the proceedings, Mashali is being assisted by a lawyer from Austria. The latter has taken on the case free of charge. It is not yet known when a verdict will be delivered. What if it is decided that the text is banned? “Then I will take it down. God also commands us to be obedient to the government. Until then, I hope it may be a blessing.”

ቅኝ ገዢዋ ብሪታኒያ በመላው ዓለም በወረራ ዘመቻ በምትንቀሳቀስበት ወቅት ከሠራዊቷ ጎን ስታሰማራቸው ከነበሩት የውጭ ሃገራት ወታደሮች መካከል በብዛት የሚመጡት ከሕንድ ነበር። በጀርመን ደግሞ በዘመነ ናዚ ሂትለር የሠራዊቱ አባላት የአረብ፣ የፓኪስታን፣ የቱርክ፣ የአልባኒያ ሙስሊሞች ነበሩ።

ታላቁ ንጉሥ አፄ ቴዎድሮስ እ.ኤ.አ. በ 1862 ዓ.ም በሙስሊም ቱርኮች እና በግብፃውያን በቀይ ባህር ዙሪያ ተደጋጋሚ ጥቃት ሲደርስባቸው ፣ ንግሥት ቪክቶሪያን ጨምሮ ለኃያላን የዓለም መሪዎች ደብዳቤ ጽፈው ነበር ፣ ወታደራዊ እርዳታ እንዲደረግላቸው እና ‘በእስልምና መስፋፋት‘ ፊት ለፊት ‘ክርስቲያናዊ ትብብር‘ እንዲኖር አውሮፓውያኑን ተማጽነው ነበር። ሆኖም ደብዳቤው ችላ ተብሎ ነበርና መልስ አላገኙም። ምክንያቱም የብሪታኒያ ኢምፓየር የመስቀል ጦርነት ለማካሄድ ምንም ፍላጎት ስላልነበረው ፣ ፍላጎታቸው ከኦቶማን ቱርክ ኢምፓየር ጋር ለንግድ እና ለፖለቲካዊ ጥቅም መተባበር ነበርና ነው።

አፄ ቴዎድሮስ ለእርዳታ ጥሪያቸው ምላሽ ባለማግኘታቸው ተናድደው፣ የብሪታኒያ ቆንስል ካፒቴን ቻርለስ ካሜሮንን ጨምሮ በርካታ የብሪታኒያ ሚሲዮናውያንን እና የመንግስት ባለስልጣናትን አሰሯቸው።

😈 King Charles III Defender of Islam?

30 years ago, then-Prince Charles declared that he wanted to be a “defender of faith,” rather than simply “Defender of the Faith,” to reflect Britain’s growing religious diversity. It created a bit of a storm in a teacup, as he had clearly not meant that he would be changing the traditional role so much as adding to it. The new King is a particular type of Anglican: one that on the one hand, is incredibly tied to the notion of tradition; but on the other, has shown a great deal of affinity for both Eastern Orthodox Christianity and Islam, two religions clearly outside the Anglican fold that he must now titularly lead.

When it came to Muslim communities worldwide, he stated clearly at a famous speech in 1993, “For that which binds our two worlds together is so much more powerful than that which divides us. Muslims, Christians—and Jews—are all ‘peoples of the Book’.”

When Charles spoke at Egypt’s Al-Azhar—the leading university for Islamic learning— in 2006, he noted, “we in the West are in debt to the scholars of Islam, for it was thanks to them that during the Dark Ages in Europe the treasures of classical learning were kept alive.”

Freemasonry’s opening up to religions other than Christianity was an extended process of crossing successive borders. The religions involved in these crossings were first Judaism, followed by Islam, Zoroastrianism and Hinduism. At first Freemasonry was Christian, though—revolutionary for the early eighteenth century—admitting all Christians: Roman Catholics, Anglicans and dissenters alike. But, over time, Freemasonry opened to candidates with less and less knowledge of the Biblical texts on which its rituals were based. Jews would not (want to) understand the allusions to New Testament passages, referred to in the rituals. Yet they were admitted from the 1730s onwards. Muslims would not (want to) understand the allusions to both Old Testament and New Testament passages, referred to in the rituals. Yet they were admitted from ca.1800 onwards. Members of non-Abrahamic religions would not even be familiar with the most central symbol on which the rituals were constructed: the Temple of Solomon. Yet they were admitted from the 1840s onwards. Those whom contemporary Englishmen regarded as polytheists were supposedly unable to work to the honor of the (singular!) ‘Great Architect of the Universe’.

Yet, Hindus were admitted from the 1870s onwards. The admission of members of those religions were not separate developments, but all part of one and the same border-crossing process. Except for the first one (Judaism), all these border crossings happened, not accidentally, in India (South Asia). The first to cross the boundary between Abrahamic and non-Abrahamic religions was a Parsi (a Zoroastrian) who moved easily between the Indian and British worlds of Bombay (Mumbai),

India. Once he was a member, other Parsis, Sikhs, Jains, etc., though not Hindus, were admitted. The debate over the admission of Hindus was also centered, and resolved, in India. In both cases, it was essential that Parsis and Hindus demonstrate their monotheism before being admitted into Freemasonry. By 1872, when the first Hindu joined an English lodge in India, members of all religions seem to have been accepted without exception.

While these developments unfolded, for the most part, in India, they had consequences for the whole world. Whether one agrees or not, within ‘regular’ Freemasonry, the ‘United Grand Lodge of England’ creates in this respect the norm for all Grand Lodges in the world. So, the decisions taken in India within the context of the UGLE opened the same possibilities for all other Grand Lodges as well. The admission of candidates s adhering to religions other than those previously accepted in other Grand Lodges was therefore part of the same process traced here, though usually there was some time delay.

From Christians to Jews and Muslims

There can be no doubt anymore that Freemasonry was originally a product of the Christian Western culture. Most likely, the idea of initiation rituals was borrowed from the Church, which had used such rituals as baptism and ordination of priests for many centuries before Freemasonry emerged. The allusive method, as so prominently applied in masonic rituals, uses not just the Tanakh, but the whole Bible—Old and New Testament plus the cross-references in the notes—as its referential corpus. When in 1723, James Anderson published The Constitutions of the Free-Masons—the first book of regulations of the Freemasons—he formulated the first Charge, “Concerning God and Religion”, as follows:

A Mason is oblig’d, by his Tenure, to obey the moral Law; and if he rightly understands the Art, he will never be a stupid Atheist, nor an irreligious Libertine. But though in ancient Times Masons were charg’d in every Country to be of the Religion of that Country or Nation, whatever it was,

yet ‘tis now thought more expedient only to oblige them to that Religion in which all Men agree, leaving their particular Opinions to themselves; that is, to be good Men and true, or Men of Honour and Honesty, by whatever Denominations or Persuasions they may be distinguish’d; whereby Masonry becomes the Center of Union, and the Means of conciliating true Friendship among Persons that must have remain’d at a perpetual Distance.

It is clear now that with the expression “Denominations and Persuasions” only variations of the Christian religion were intended (Chakmakjian 2008; Impens 2008). Surely, even that was proof of great tolerance. After all, Great Britain had known in the seventeenth century more than 90 years of civil war, largely over religious issues. As long as candidates were officially Christians, there was no problem to initiate them.

The Advisor at the Royal Court, Ahmad bin Abdulaziz Qattan, delivered the message during a meeting with the genocidal Oromo Prime Minister of Ethiopia on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 in the capital, Addis Ababa.

Massacres, Rape, Siege: Why Israel Must Stop Its UAE Ally Aiding Ethiopia’s Atrocities

The UAE is running a huge airlift arming an Ethiopian regime committing mass atrocities in Tigray. That inhumane adventurism is a strategic problem for Israel, too

The Abraham Accords gave Israel new leverage across the Arab world. Israel has new allies, notably the United Arab Emirates. It’s now vital to examine what these allies might be doing — especially when they contradict the founding values of the State of Israel.

Genocide scholars are sounding the alarm over Ethiopia, where the UAE is arming the government. Emirati-supplied weapons are encouraging Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to go all out for a military solution, which risks mass ethnically-targeted violence.

Israel should stop its new ally before a blunder becomes a crime.

The war in Ethiopia broke out last year, pitting the Ethiopian government and its allies—Eritrea and Ethiopia’s Amhara regional state—against the Tigray region. All sides share responsibility for the war. Once it began, the Ethiopian government chose to fight with unspeakable brutality against Tigrayan civilians.

I receive daily calls from Tigrayans. My instinctive greeting, by now, is to offer condolences. Every single caller has lost a family member, often in one of the 260 documented massacres. I don’t ask about the daughters, sisters and mothers who have been raped. I hear about deaths from disease, of people who cannot get medicine because the hospitals were ransacked. I hear about children and their mothers perishing from hunger, because food was looted and plow oxen slaughtered.

This suffering is unseen. Journalists are forbidden from travelling to Tigray. The few aid workers let in work under a rigidly enforced code of silence.

Faced with imminent annihilation, Tigrayans rallied and fought back. Last June, they defeated the Ethiopian army and reoccupied their region. The government imposed a starvation siege: only about ten percent of the needed emergency aid has been allowed to get through.

Today the Tigrayan people are facing an even greater threat. Abiy Ahmed has rallied his supporters around a campaign of blatant ethnic hostility. They portray the Tigrayans as a “cancer,” “weeds,” “daylight hyenas” and “rats.” One of Abiy’s leading supporters was videotaped saying that they should be destroyed with the “utmost cruelty.”

Local militia and vigilantes are mobilized to the front line. They also instructed to patrol their own neighborhoods, far from the front line, to identify “enemies”—in practice, any Tigrayan. At least 40,000 Tigrayan civilians are believed to be held in internment camps and police stations in and around the Ethiopian capital.

Anyone who speaks of peace is hounded. A singer, Tariku Gankisi, was asked to perform at a rally, and he deviated from the script, telling the crowd, “This is no time for singing, there is nothing to sing about.” He called for peace. His microphone was shut off and the official media rounded on him, trying to force him to grovel and apologize.

Prominent elders of the peacemaking community, academics and businesspeople have also been targeted for online vilificationand real life intimidation for standing for peace or reaching out for dialogue with the opposition.

Among Tigrayans, I hear the sentiment that Ethiopia no longer wants them, and in turn they no longer want to be part of Ethiopia.

International efforts to negotiate a political solution are getting no traction. Efforts by the African Union, Kenya and the United States have been rebuffed. The Tigrayans say that they cannot trust Abiy. For his part, Abiy promises he will crush Tigray.

Abiy is emboldened by the weapons he has obtained on a global arms-buying spree. His supplies include the usual suspects—China, Russia, Ukraine and eastern European countries that manufacture small arms—and also Turkey and Iran. His most significant supplier has been the UAE, which is running a massive airlift of lethal equipment, including drones.

The UAE is a newcomer to the Horn of Africa. It sees opportunities for investment in agriculture and ports, and wants to make Ethiopia part of its security perimeter in the western Indian Ocean. Abu Dhabi was the sponsor of the peace agreement between Ethiopia and Eritrea in 2018, which won Abiy Ahmed the Nobel Peace Prize.

The Nobel committee didn’t give Eritrean president Isaias Afewerki a share in the award, because he is a totalitarian despot who runs his country like a personal fiefdom. Isaias didn’t mind. He got what he wanted, which was a security pact against Tigray — whose leaders had run Ethiopia for the previous quarter century and had fought a war against him.

It seems that when Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed hosted Isaias and Abiy, he promised them ongoing financial and military support. He is certainly fulfilling that promise to Abiy, even though in doing so he is defying the U.S. policy of trying to de-escalate the Ethiopian war in favor of a negotiated peace.

The UAE belatedly reconsidered its support for proxies and its air campaigns in the wars in Libya and Yemen, but not before irreparable damage had been done to those countries. It should not have to re-learn this lesson at the expense of Ethiopia. With 110 million people, characterized by significant ethnic and religious diversity, the collapse of the country would be a calamity of surpassing size.

Israel should be worried. It has ties to Ethiopia dating back to the time of Emperor Haile Selassie. It has a deep connection to the country’s historic Jewish community, the Beta Israel. It has a security interest in a country strategically positioned at the southern end of the Red Sea arena, neighboring Muslim-majority countries.

Over the years Israel has cut deals to secure its strategic interests, and to get Ethiopia to allow its Jews to emigrate. Thirty years ago, during the last months of the communist military regime, Israel reportedly supplied munitions to the Ethiopian air force in return for expediting Operation Solomon which airlifted out 39,000 Beta Israel. Recently, as the Red Sea arena has become a theater of strategic rivalries and turmoil, Israel has kept a close eye on possible threats in the region, including militant groups.

And with the Abraham Accords, Israel is becoming a partner to bin Zayed’s adventurism. In Washington DC and European capitals, Israeli and Emirati diplomats work hand in glove. The allies are building a new security architecture for the region — which is also giving the Emiratis a free pass when they go rogue.

Emirati arms may save Abiy Ahmed’s government, but, as we have seen from Libya and Yemen, saving a government may come at the cost of losing a functioning state. That could destabilize the Horn of Africa for an entire generation.

Worse still, knowingly or not, the UAE is abetting an Ethiopian regime committing mass atrocities that are escalating by the day. The warning sirens of genocide are blaring, loudly.

Israel took a moral stand against genocide in Rwanda and Darfur. It must act now when Tigrayans face that hideous prospect. It should tell its new-found ally in Abu Dhabi to stop, now, in the name of humanity.

፳ እናንተም ከቅዱሱ ቅባት ተቀብላችኋል፥ ሁሉንም ታውቃላችሁ።

፳፩ እውነትን የምታውቁ ስለ ሆናችሁ፥ ውሸትም ሁሉ ከእውነት እንዳልሆነ ስለምታውቁ እንጂ እውነትን ስለማታውቁ አልጽፍላችሁም።

፳፪ ክርስቶስ አይደለም ብሎ ኢየሱስን ከሚክድ በቀር ውሸተኛው ማን ነው? አብንና ወልድን የሚክድ ይህ የክርስቶስ ተቃዋሚ ነው።

፳፫ ወልድን የሚክድ ሁሉ አብ እንኳ የለውም፤ በወልድ የሚታመን አብ ደግሞ አለው።

፳፬ እናንተስ ከመጀመሪያ የሰማችሁት በእናንተ ጸንቶ ይኑር። ከመጀመሪያ የሰማችሁት በእናንተ ቢኖር፥ እናንተ ደግሞ በወልድና በአብ ትኖራላችሁ።

፳፱ ጻድቅ እንደ ሆነ ካወቃችሁ ጽድቅን የሚያደርግ ሁሉ ከእርሱ እንደ ተወለደ እወቁ።

❖ Where Are The Garima Gospels? Some Fear The Worst

After having survived 1,500 years of history in a remote monastery, the Garima Gospels now face their most serious threat.

One of the greatest treasures in the Christian world, guarded for over 1,500 years in northern Ethiopia, may not have survived the latest threat.

You Garima Gospels, written in goatskin and dated between 330 and 650 AD, are in an area that has been under siege for months by the armies of Ethiopia and Eritrea. Religious sites near the Abba Garima monastery in Tigray were bombed and precious looted artifacts, so it is feared that the worst happened to this treasure.

“It is frightening for many of us to think that these Gospels and other ancient artifacts are on the road to danger,” said Suleyman Dost, a professor in the Department of Jewish and Near Eastern Studies at Brandeis University in Massachusetts, quoted by The Globe and Mail.

“The Garima Gospels are not only among the first complete texts of the Christian scriptures, but they also offer us a rare glimpse into the language, religion and history of ancient Ethiopia,” he added.

The online newspaper advances that the Garima Gospels, bound and illustrated copies of the Four New Testament Gospels written in the classic Ethiopian language Ge’ez, are one of the treasures of the ancient Axumite kingdom, whose heart is now engulfed by the war zone in Tigray.

“The war threatens countless priceless traces of this period, including inscriptions, religious buildings and manuscripts that have been diligently preserved in monasteries for centuries,” said Dost.

The Axumite kingdom, whose territories extended across the Red Sea to Yemen, was one of the great cultural and economic empires of that time and one of the first states to accept Christianity as an official religion, in the early fourth century, even before the Roman Empire.

The capital, Axum, is known as the home of Ark of the Covenant – another sacred relic whose fate is currently unknown.

The Garima Gospels are older than the most famous Western manuscripts, such as the Book of Kells, and are more closely linked to the original Greek Gospels.

To the morning man, Michael Gervers, a historian at the University of Toronto, explained that “they are of extreme importance for the Christian culture as a whole”. “Yours loss would be disastrous for the Judeo-Christian cultural heritage. ”

MASSIVE Explosion in China Looked Like a Mini Nuke! | ግዙፍ ፍንዳታ በቻይና

An explosion occurred at an aluminum alloy plant on Tuesday morning in Dengfeng, Central China’s Henan Province. No casualties were reported as of press time, said local authorities.

Local emergency management staff have rushed to the scene.

The incident occurred at around 6:00 am at an aluminum alloy plant in a village of Gaocheng township after flood water from a nearby river poured into an alloy tank with a high temperature solution, according to a statement Dengfeng government issued on Tuesday.

After Dengfeng experienced heavy rainstorm on Monday, the water level of the Yinghe River soared and exceeded the warning line at around 4 am. The increased water level resulted in the collapse of the surrounding wall and flooded into the factory, said the statement.

The company later cut the power and evacuated its staff from the plant, it said.

A Gaocheng resident, surnamed Chen, told the Global Times that she heard a loud noise when the explosion occurred. “I thought it was a thunder as it was raining heavily outside then. I checked the time — it was at 6:06 am,” she said.

According to public information, Dengfeng Power Group Aluminum Alloy Company, the enterprise that runs the plant, showed a normal record in its all seven environmental protection onsite inspections.

Dengfeng government officials have arrived at the scene to help with the evacuation of the residents around the plant. No casualties or missing people were reported.

The city authorities have also started flood season safety investigation and rectification.
