The Planned Extermination of Orthodox Christians and Minorities in Ethiopia

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on August 20, 2020

👉 Noble Peace Prize = License for Genocide

A silent world remains merely just another helpless spectator to the ongoing ethnic, political and religious extermination of Orthodox Christianity in Ethiopia. The ongoing tussle in Ethiopia under all unfortunate circumstances is a well crafted and promptly executed genocide.

Genocide of Orthodox Christians and Minorities in Ethiopia

Call it by any name, Oromo radicalism or religious extremism, Orthodox Christians suffered the most and they undoubtedly continue to suffer the most. Churches burned, faithful murdered, local business intentionally destroyed.

Some people believe that troubles within Ethiopia do not retain a religious colour. But figures speak otherwise. After the murder of Hachalu Hundessa, more than 3362 Orthodox Christians were displaced. Many Orthodox Christian schools, clinics, entrepreneurial ventures, vehicles were also destroyed. Last year alone, fanatic Oromo groups attacked and killed a large number of Non -Oromo and destroyed more than 30 Orthodox Churches and institutions. Such direct attacks were visible even before 2019.

Hachalu Hundessa’s deliberate murder constitutes just another apparent reason for radicals to wage war against the non-Oromo population. Ironically, Hachalu Hundessa was an Orthodox Christian.

It is not merely Amhara, but it is a war waged to undermine Ethiopian national unity and against Orthodox Christianity in particular. The radical’s attacked and killed Amhara Christians, Oromos Christians and the Gurages community. They demolished property, did lynching and beheadings in the region. Oromo radicals attacked towns and cities in south-eastern Oromia and brutally murdered many non-Oromo, non-Muslim families in the region.

World Media’s who hauls a lot on the persecution of Christians and minorities seems to be silent on the sufferings of Ethiopian Orthodox Christians and minorities. Off course some of them (especially Ethiopian and African media’s) circulated a couple of reports. However, these published reports have not surfaced in a proper manner. Such a dire scenario has inevitably undermined the apparent seriousness of the social and political situation.

Ilhan Omar (U.S. Representative for Minnesota’s 5th congressional district) and other politicians retweeted a New York Times story about Hachalu’s killing.

collage-80

But how many politicians will tweet or retweet the story of Meron Tesfaye who was killed while she was nine months pregnant? She was executed before her husband and their two children who were made to kneel down to witness the brutal murder? Who will speak for Brihanu Ziqargachew who was brutally slaughtered by the Ormo extremists?

They are just two among the 335 (or more) people who were martyred in the name of ethnicity and religion. They were brutally executed for their faith and ethnicity.

Who will prevent the Ormo speaker who publicly called for the extermination of Amhara’s in her local neighborhood? Which leading politician will promptly stop the propaganda broadcasts by the Oromo Media Network? At least keep aside the active propaganda of OMN and listen carefully to established facts.

The Ethiopian Orthodox Church and the Holy Synod – Rise up and stand firm behind the faithful to staunchly defend them as they voluntarily risk themselves for Christian Orthodox faith.

Look at the Ethiopian government. How can they be so vulnerable? Ethiopians undoubtedly have Prime Minister who was decorated with Nobel peace prize for striking a deal with Eritrea. The Prime Minister and his local government, however, miserably failed to properly check the radicals to reinstate lasting peace in the Country. The government isolated the people of Ethiopia by terminating the internet during the crisis. It is clear they want to hide reality from the rest of the world. What an unspeakable shame!

The Ethiopian diaspora groups like the ‘United for brighter Ethiopia’ are working hard on the critical issue. However, the fragility of the complex situation in Ethiopia reasonably requires urgent attention and humanitarian intervention.

It is not about the mortal leaders like Jawar Mohammed or Ahmed Abiy, but it is about the unfortunate Ethiopians who undoubtedly suffer for their faith and ethnicity, it is about the common man in Ethiopia who is toiling hard to rightfully earn his bread and butter, it is about paving a more decent future for all Ethiopians and it is all about re-establishing lasting peace in Ethiopia.

Indeed, this is a planned and an ongoing ethnic, religious and political to subtly undermine and severely disrupt the national unity of Ethiopia.

A silent world, Ethiopians inevitably require your valuable help and support. Please do not disregard them!!!

Antichrist Nation of Turkey Redesignating The Iconic Orthodox Church Hagia Sophia as Mosque

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on July 3, 2020

Mind you, the city of Istanbul (Constantinople) has over 3000 Mosques.

The government of Turkey issued a statement Wednesday saying Ankara was “shocked” at a statement from U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo urging Islamist President Recep Tayyip Erdogan not to turn the Hagia Sophia into a mosque.

Built in the year 513, the Hagia Sophia is one of the world’s oldest Christian constructions, one of the most important cathedrals in the Greek Orthodox world before Muslim invaders conquered Istanbul and turned it into a mosque. Following the establishment of the Republic of Turkey under secular leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the Hagia Sophia was converted into a museum, neutral territory for both religions.

Erdogan has spent much of his tenure attempting to Islamicize the Hagia Sophia, allowing a call to prayer in 2016 for the first time in 85 years and personally reading Quranic verse in the building. Turkish courts are currently evaluating the official conversion of the cathedral into a mosque and will issue a verdict within the next two weeks, the state-run Anadolu news agency reported on Thursday.

The issue of converting the former cathedral reportedly resurfaced in response to the reading of the Quran within the Hagia Sophia in late May to observe the anniversary of its seizure and the conversion of Constantinople into Istanbul.

Pompeo issued a statement Wednesday regarding the court proceedings, encouraging relevant government officials to maintain the Hagia Sophia as a museum.

The Government of Turkey has administered the Hagia Sophia as a museum – officially recognized by UNESCO as part of the Historic Areas of Istanbul World Heritage Site – in an outstanding manner for nearly a century,” Pompeo said. “We urge the Government of Turkey to continue to maintain the Hagia Sophia as a museum, as an exemplar of its commitment to respect the faith traditions and diverse history that contributed to the Republic of Turkey, and to ensure it remains accessible to all.”

The United States views a change in the status of the Hagia Sophia as diminishing the legacy of this remarkable building and its unsurpassed ability — so rare in the modern world — to serve humanity as a much-needed bridge between those of differing faith traditions and cultures,” Pompeo asserted.

Hami Aksoy, a spokesman for the Turkish Foreign Ministry, responded with outrage, insisting that the Hagia Sophia, taken from the Greeks who built it in the 1400s, “is the property of Turkey, like all our cultural assets” and its administration “our internal affair as part of Turkey’s sovereign rights.”

We are shocked at the statement made by the US State Department on Hagia Sophia,” Aksoy said. “Naturally everyone is free to express their own opinion. However, it is not for anyone to talk about our sovereign rights in the style of ‘we urge, we demand.’”

Anticipating outrage from the Christian world, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu similarly insisted last month that the status of the Hagia Sophia was not the business of anyone outside of Turkey.

Stressing that no one should comment on freedom of religion in Turkey, Cavusoglu said the steps taken in the last 20 years towards various minorities in the country is evident,” Yeni Safak, a rabidly pro-Erdogan newspaper, recounted. “Turkey’s top diplomat also slammed the U.S. over recently published 2019 Report on International Religious Freedom and said it is ‘tragicomical’ for the U.S. to comment on freedom of religion and human rights.”

That report, published in June, revealed that Turkey’s religious minorities felt persecuted, both by radical Muslims and by the government.

Religious minorities again reported difficulties opening or operating houses of worship; resolving land and property disputes and legal challenges of churches whose lands the government previously expropriated; operating or opening houses of worship; and obtaining exemptions from mandatory religion classes in schools,” the report read. In addition to non-Muslim groups, Erdogan’s government has spent years persecuting members of the Hizmet Islamic movement, led by Erdogan rival and Pennsylvania cleric Fethullah Gülen. Erdogan blames Gülen, without providing evidence that the U.S. has found convincing enough for extradition, for the failed coup against him in 2016.

The report also noted Erdogan’s years-long campaign to convert the Hagia Sophia into a mosque.

Erdogan allowed a Muslim call to prayer from the cathedral – outfitted with minarets for calls to prayer after the fall of Constantinople – in 2016, a dramatic shift from the previous Atatürk policy. Despite Turkish government prohibiting it, Erdogan has repeatedly criticized Atatürk, the republic’s founder, for his staunch support of secularism and erasure of all religion from public life. Atatürk’s “Young Turks” led the genocide of Armenian, Assyrian, and Greek Christians from Turkey before establishing a secular republic devoid of Islamic influence.

That year, Erdogan also allowed Ramadan prayers to take place in the Hagia Sophia.

By 2018, Erdogan himself was reciting Islamic prayers in the Hagia Sophia – on Easter weekend, the holiest holiday in Christianity.

Last year, Erdogan said in a television interview that he may “revert” the status of the Hagia Sophia from museum to mosque, insisting that tourists would still be able to visit it the same way they are able to visit other Istanbul mosques.

Oromo Soldiers of the Nobel Laureate PM Burning down an Ethiopian Orthodox Church

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on June 18, 2020

👉 Nobel Peace Prize = License for Genocide

The current genocidal PM of Ethiopia is proudly sponsored by the Luciferian Occident & Orient, so the Ethiopia blood sacrifice assures Satan will keep him in power.

Since the Crypto-Muslim and an Oromo ethno-nationalist Abiy Ahmed Ali came in 2018 to power, there was a large scale attack in which 1000 orthodox Christians and their priests and bishops were murdered and around 50 churches burned down. This is another level of coordinated Oromo Muslim attack on Ethiopian Christians, and this kind of large scale attack has never happened in Ethiopia since the 16th century.

The massacred Orthodox priests didn’t deserve this! In this day and age It is always very dangerous to set up churches in Islamic regions even in countries where Muslims are a minority. Uncolonized, in its long history, Ethiopia has always been staunchly Orthodox Christian since Biblical times and defeated many Islamic armies and others who tried to conquer it. However, lately many Ethiopians are worried the direction their country is moving under their new, pro-Western and pro-Arab prime minister. Many Ethiopians think that Saudi Arabia and a US-backed coup has taken place in their country in 2018.

Orthodox Faithful, Prelates call to ‘Prepare for Martyrdom’ in Response to the Unending Jihad in Ethiopia

The Ethiopian Orthodox Church, with its long history and colorful traditions, has become almost synonymous with the identity of Ethiopia itself. Now, a spate of church burnings has raised the religious and political temperature.

What or Who is Behind this?

Ethiopia is one of the world’s most religious countries, in which about 98% of the population claim a religious affiliation. Hence the shock over churches belonging to the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC) – an organization and faith that is integral to the idea of Ethiopian-ness – being burned to the ground, sometimes with their priests inside them.

It comes at a time when ethnic tensions are already sky high and have already resulted in much blood spilled. Ethnic-related strife has always been present in Ethiopia, but it has been bedevilling the country even more so, it appears, following the initially much-lauded reforms by Abiy Ahmed, after he became Prime Minister in early 2018.

During the first half of 2018, Ethiopia’s rate of 1.4m new internally displaced persons (IDPs) exceeded Syria’s. By the end of last year, after further ethnic-related clashes, the IDP population had mushroomed to nearly 2.4m – and remains close to that figure.

There is a feeling of siege among many followers of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church. The continued burning of churches is already leading to a wider distrust within society and could be a time-bomb.

Also, in eastern and southern Ethiopia, many people associate the Orthodox Church with northern Ethiopia, so it has already deepen political polarization.

Since July 2018, about 50 churches have been attacked, with more than half of them burned to the ground like this one. Some of the attacks have also been corroborated by US-based Christian groups. But the wider world, including the Orthodox one, remains silent.

Unique Role of EOTC

About 60% to 70% of Ethiopia’s 110m population follow the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church (EOTC), the largest of the Oriental Orthodox Christian churches. Muslims make up around 25% of the population – with Protestants, Catholics and adherents to indigenous tribal religions making up the rest.

But it is the EOTC that rules supreme in terms of cultural and psychological impact in the country. It is impossible to talk about Ethiopian history without the history of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.

The church had an invaluable role in protecting the territorial integrity of Ethiopia from foreign aggression. The church was also a target of foreign invaders because they knew that it is impossible to conquer Ethiopians without destroying the church. That is why the church means so much to Ethiopians. There is no aspect of Ethiopians’ lives where religion in one way or another doesn’t have a role.

As a result, Ethiopian identify has become inextricably bound up in the EOTC, with the Ethiopian Orthodox faith evolving over the centuries into a religion that embraces culture, politics, flag, identity and nationalism, all put in one package.

Historically, Ethiopia is a state where diverse groups have excelled in relatively living together in harmony. Ethiopia is one of the few countries where Christians and Muslims live together peacefully with mutual respect and proximity.

They are a people who give precedence to their peaceful co-existence as human beings and as Ethiopians; they don’t harp on their religious differences. Sadly, religious differences are causing havoc around the world these days.

But that doesn’t mean Ethiopia is immune to pressures and competition on a larger scale –attacks on Christians have occurred since the 1990s, according to members of the EOTC – hence rising concerns that the increase in church burnings since Abiy Ahmed came to power in 2018 indicates Muslim extremism is gaining a foothold in Ethiopia.

If the Church burnings continue and Christians retaliate, this will be a huge setback to the peace that has co-existed between the faiths and could potentially result in a new conflict leading to millions more Ethiopians being displaced. Ethiopia cannot afford a religious conflict at a time when its very survival is in question.

Money from the Gulf region has been pouring into the country to build mosques, Islamic schools, banks and pushing the Wahhabi form of Islam to Ethiopian Muslims since the early 2000s. Wahhabism is a more strict and conservative Islamic doctrine and religious movement, which is backed by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Both countries have shown an increased interest in Ethiopia and the wider Horn of Africa region in the past few years.

The burning of Churches in Ethiopia is foreign, and we can only think this extreme view has been exported to the country.

It is horrific and unbelievable to think monks and priests were burnt alive in such a holy place as a church. We believe, ultimately, that Saudi Arabia’s and UAE’s interest in Ethiopia is both political and religious, and there’s no doubt external extreme views of Islam are having an impact in the country.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and his administration have not addressed the targeting of church burnings, nor presented a plan to safeguard churches and Christians in the areas where they are being attacked.

There is even a growing movement among his Oromo people, who were at the center of sustained protests leading to the emergence of Abiy and his so-called reforms, for an entirely separate administrative body of the EOTC dedicated to the Oromo.

Over a year after the ascent of a new prime minister in Ethiopia bred hope for reform, bursting ethnic tensions are sending the country into a spiral of violence that is leaving churches and worshipers subject to property damage and murder.

Aggressive protesters across Ethiopia’s Oromia Federal State launched several violent attacks against non-Oromos and Orthodox Christians residing in the state, displacing millions, killing at least 1000 people, leaving thousands seriously wounded, and burned numerous homes and business ventures of non-Oromos.

Orthodox Churches and Orthodox believers were singled out (in many areas Orthodox Oromos were also targeted). In the towns of Dire Dawa, Nazret,Debre Zeit, Arsi Negele, Shashemene, Ambo, Jimma, Bale Robé, the areas surrounding Harrar, and the outskirts of Addis Ababa, ethnic riots and the violent attacks took on an ugly Islamic aspect.

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on June 9, 2020

Who Is Truly ‘Terrorized’: America’s Blacks or Islam’s Christians?

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on June 3, 2020

Egypt-church-burning

Two themes permeate much of the discourse surrounding ongoing riots: that racism in America, particularly against blacks, is “systemic” and that any show of force against the “protesters” — many of whom are simply criminals, looters, and thugs out to capitalize on a tragedy — is more proof of America’s ingrained racism and intolerance.

Wonderfully encapsulating these two points is Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.). In a recent interview, she asserted that “we are living in a country that has truly for a long time brutalized African-Americans, from slavery, to lynching, to Jim Crow, to mass incarceration and now to police brutality.” As for the rioters, they “were terrorized,” Omar claims, “by the presence of tanks, by the presence of the National Guard and the militarized police.”

Let’s respond to these two charges of “brutalization” and “terrorization” by way of analogy — say, by looking at how minorities are treated (including vis-à-vis tanks) in nations where Omar’s religion permeates, which is to say in Muslim nations. Egypt is a perfect example, as its non-Muslim minority, the Christian Copts, make for about the same percentage of the general population that blacks do in America: 15%.

Back in 2011, and due to nonstop attacks on their churches — whether from local authorities that demolish “unlicensed” churches or from Muslim mobs that burn down recognized ones — Egypt’s Christians held a demonstration in Maspero. By any stretch of the imagination — and especially compared to what’s happening now in the U.S. — their protest was orderly and peaceful. It was, after all, actually about ending discrimination against Christians and their churches, not capitalizing against weak leaders.

The Egyptian government responded by initiating what came to be known as the “Maspero Massacre“: it sent out troops — including snipers — and tanks against the peaceful demonstrators. In the end, dozens of Christians were murdered in cold blood, many by being intentionally run over and mangled by tanks. Hundreds were wounded. All the Obama White House did at the time is call “for restraint on all sides” — as if Egypt’s unarmed Christian minority needed to “restrain” itself against the nation’s military.

The Maspero Massacre is just the tip of the iceberg for Egypt’s Christians, who openly experience discrimination and persecution in a myriad of ways, from not getting the best or administrative jobs to getting killed by fellow policemen and soldiers for being “infidels.” (Only “spectacular” terrorist attacks — such as the bombing of their churches and killing of dozens of Christians — ever get noticed by the “mainstream media.”) None of this is surprising, considering that Egypt’s constitution (Article 2) makes clear that “Islam is the religion of the state” and that “Islamic Sharia” — which is inherently discriminatory if not downright hostile to non-Muslims — is the “main source of legislation.”

The plight of Egypt’s Copts is representative of the plight of all Christians throughout the Muslim world — where both discrimination and outright persecution are systemic, not to mention endemic. If you doubt this, see my “Muslim Persecution of Christians” series and witness the nonstop discrimination, persecution, and carnage committed — quite often in the name of Islam — by “everyday” Muslims, including their governments, against Christians. Each monthly report — there are currently well over a hundred, stretching back to July 2011 — contains a dozen or so atrocities, most of which if committed by Christians against Muslims would receive 24/7 blanket coverage.

Despite all this — despite the fact that 38 of the 50 nations that persecute and terrorize as many as 260 million Christians are Islamic — curiously, no Muslim has begun a “Christian Lives Matter” movement.

Indeed, and to return to Ilhan Omar, her Islamic homeland of Somalia is widely considered the third worst nation in the entire world in its horrific and ideologically driven butchery of Christians (Egypt in comparison is ranked #16). Yet, instead of using her prominent position as a member of congress to draw attention to and help the non-Muslims of Somalia, she is busy projecting what her homeland does to its minorities onto America.

Meanwhile, it’s only because the U.S. Constitution does not base freedom and equality on race or religion that Omar — a Muslim woman from Africa — could become a member of Congress in the first place. It’s also why countless other blacks and non-white minorities come to and have achieved great success and social mobility in America: here, everyone stands equal before the law.

Does that mean that American society is perfect, that there is no racism or discrimination whatsoever? Of course not. No nation — because no individual human — is perfect. That said, things don’t get a whole lot better than this. They only get worse — potentially much, much worse.
