The Ethiopian military insists the only targets in an airstrike on a busy marketplace in the Tigray region were combatants, but regional health officials confirmed dozens of civilians, including children as young as 1, had been killed or injured in Tuesday’s attack, the Associated Press reported.

The airstrike—which the U.S. State Department called a “reprehensible act”—in the village of Togoga killed at least 64 people and left 33 missing and more than 100 wounded, a regional health official told AP.

“There are a lot of people injured, but they didn’t get medical service and help because of the blockage of the road by the military,” Dr. Kinfe Redae said.

Denying victims urgently needed medical care is heinous and absolutely unacceptable,” the U.S. State Department said. “We urge the Ethiopian authorities to ensure full and unhindered medical access to the victims immediately. We also call for an urgent and independent investigation.

Ethiopia says most of Tigray’s 6 million people have been receiving medical care, despite the fact that many medical teams said they have repeatedly been denied access by soldiers.

A spokesman, Col. Getnet Adane, told journalists that fighters supporting the Tigray region’s former leaders had assembled to celebrate Martyrs’ Day on Tuesday when the airstrike occurred.

“The Ethiopian air force uses the latest technology, so it conducted a precision strike that was successful,” he said. He didn’t comment when reached for further details.

Tigrayans were appalled by Ethiopia’s assertion that the airstrike targeted only combatants.

It’s an insult to the people and adding salt to the wounds, you know?” said Hailu Kebede, a former Togoga resident and official with the Salsay Woyane Tigray opposition party. He described how his brother, who has a shop in the market, ran for his life while his nearby home was destroyed.

“We know the area. I grew up there. There were no combatants,” Hailu said. “The destroyed homes are those of my friends and my family.” One of his friends lost a child in the airstrike while another child had her hand amputated, he said.

Health workers said Ethiopian forces blocked some medical teams from responding and shot at a Red Cross ambulance trying to reach the scene. All spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of retaliation.

Wounded people were still being evacuated from the scene on Thursday, the International Committee of the Red Cross said, calling the transport of seriously injured to an operating center in the regional capital of Mekele “a matter of life and death.”

The real death toll from the airstrike could be higher because some people likely took the dead home to their nearby villages and buried them without the knowledge of regional officials, Hailu said.

The airstrike came amid some of the fiercest fighting in Tigray since the conflict began in November as Ethiopian forces, supported by forces from neighboring Eritrea, pursue Tigray’s former leaders. The Ethiopian military spokesman denied Tigray fighters’ claims of gains in recent days, saying Ethiopian forces had been deployed to other locations for Monday’s national election.

The U.S. also called for an immediate cease-fire in Tigray, where thousands of civilians have been killed and 350,000 people are now facing one of the world’s worst famines in years.

#TogogaMassacre | Abiy Ahmed Repeated What His Oromo Father Mengistu Did on the Very day of June 22

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on June 24, 2021

The Tigrayans gave to the undeserving non-native Oromos ( they migrated to Ethiopia in waves of invasions in the 16th century) everything, including the largest region half the size of Ethiopia — and left Addis Ababa for Mekelle for good. Yet, that was not enough for the expansionist & fascist Oromo junta of Abiy Ahmed – so they decided to follow the Tigrayans. For the past three years this Oromo junta was preparing with Eritrea & Amhara region to do what they are doing now. They even invited the Somalis and United Arab Emirates drones who participated in the following church & monastery massacres: #AxumMassacre, #DengolatMassacre, #DebreDamoMassacre etc.

8 months of #TigrayGenocide – Tigrayans have been subjected to extreme devastation and agony. Tigrayans are not only under an invasion and occupation, psychological warfare, ethnic profiling and targeting, but also their cries, agony and pain is in the darkness of communications blackout in order for the rest of the world not to hear. Read the comments sections of the news outlets. You will read how far and how dark the Oromos & Amharas came to attack the victim.

The war on Tigrayans is spiritual, ideological and historical. But it is also beyond that. The ethnic profiling and targeting, the harsh and devastating measures on Tigrayans, the pillaging and looting, and the destruction of civilians and civilian infrastructures, the massacres, the blockade and blackout, the collective punishments, the carpet bombings and the refusal to independent investigation and allow humanitarian aid should be seen as the product of genocidal undercurrents.

Abiy Ahmed’s Oromo junta’s plan is to eventually starve Tigrayans that it can then use international aid as a weapon against the Tigrayan people, just like his Oromo father’s communist junta did during the 1984/5 civil war and famine. That explains its refusal to allow independent humanitarian access and its insistence on controlling international aid agencies.

Genocide is taking place in Tigray, and the intentions and deeds of the Oromos & their Amhara collaborators is to destroy Tigray, to undermine their God-given or Natural Rights to Life and to cleanse and exterminate ancient Christians of Tigray from their God-given land.

💭 History repeats itself again and again: Even though you are kind to the wicked, they never learn to do what is right.

[Isaiah 26:10]Though the wicked person is shown compassion, He does not learn righteousness; He deals unjustly in the land of uprightness, And does not perceive the majesty of the LORD.”

Evil Abiy Ahmed’s Oromo ‘father’ Mengistu Hailemariam, who was the head of state of Ethiopia from 1977 to 1991 massacred and starved to death millions of Tigrayans. Before he was ousted he made the following genocidal statement:

One way to remove a stinky fish from the sea was to dry the sea in order to remove the fish”. The sea is a reference to the people of Tigray and the fish is to the people of Tigrayan.

Just exactly like what Abiy Ahmed is thinking, planning and executing today.

💭 Last week, the EU Envoy to Ethiopia, Finland Foreign Minster Pekka Haavisto attested as follows:

“..when I met the #Ethiopian Leadership😈 in February they used this kind of language, that they are going to destroy the Tigrayans, they are going to wipe out..” Finland FM Haavisto.

As part of Mengistu’s strategy, the 1984 man-made famine was seen as an opportunity. Denial of humanitarian assistance and indiscriminate massacre and bombing was used to take advantage of the opportunity the famine created. A prominent example is the bombardment of the market town Hawzen, on the very day of June 22, 1988 on market day, killing more than 2,500 innocent Tigrayan civilians. By coincidence?

🔥 Amhara & Oromos bombing Tigray, Using Rape, Hunger & Forced Resettlement (Mengistu did it back then, Abiy Ahmed is doing the same now) as a Weapon against People in Tigray for the past 130 years:-

👉 1. Menelik II. (1844 – 1913)

The Great Ethiopian Famine of 1888-1892

The great famine is estimated to have caused 3.5 million deaths. During Emperor Menelik’s Reign, Tigray was split into two regions, one of which he sold to the Italians who later named it Eritrea. Only two months after the death of Emperor Yohaness lV , Menelik signed the Wuchale treaty of 2 May 1889 conceding Eritrea to the Italians. It was not only Eritrea that Menelik gave away, he also had a hand in letting Djibouti be part of the French protectorate when he agreed the border demarcation with the French in 1887. Some huge parts of Tigray were put under Gonder. The Southern part, places like present day Alamata, Kobo etc were put under Wello Amhara administration.

👉 2. Haile Selassie (1892 – 1975)

In 1943, at the request of the Emperor Haile Selassie, the Royal British Airforce bombed two towns – Mekelle and Corbetta. Thousands of defenseless civilians lost their lives as a result of aerial bombardment. It is recorded that ‘on 14th October [1943] 54 bombs dropped in Mekelle, 6th October 14 bombs followed by another 16 bombs on 9thOctober in Hintalo, 7th/9th October 32 bombs in Corbetta’.

Between 2 and 5 million’ people died between 1958 and 1977 as a cumulative result. Haile Selassie, who was emperor at the time, refused to send any significant basic emergency food aid to the province of Tigray,

👉 3. Mengistu Hailemariam (1937 – )

1979 – 1985 + 1987

Due to organized government policies that deliberately multiplied the effects of the famine, around 1.2 million people died from this famine. Mengistu & his Children still alive & ‘well’ while Tigrayans starving again.

👉 4. Abiy Ahmed Ali (1976 – )

2018 – Until today: probably up to 500.000 already dead. 😠😠😠 😢😢😢 Unlike the past famine there is no natural or man-made drought, rather, Abiy simply uses war and hunger as a weapon. Abiy Ahmed sent his kids to America for safety, while bombing & starving Tigrayan kids!

US State Department: Air Strike on Village Market in Tigray

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on June 23, 2021

PRESS STATEMENT

NED PRICE, DEPARTMENT SPOKESPERSON

The United States is gravely concerned by reports that dozens of civilians were killed or injured during a bombing of a village market in northern Tigray on June 22. We strongly condemn this reprehensible act. There are also credible reports that security forces denied medical personnel access to the victims of this terrible attack. Denying victims urgently needed medical care is heinous and absolutely unacceptable. We urge the Ethiopian authorities to ensure full and unhindered medical access to the victims immediately. We also call for an urgent and independent investigation, as well as remedial action, to hold those responsible for this attack accountable. The United States again urges an immediate ceasefire in Tigray, unhindered humanitarian access, and protection for civilians.

Did Fascist Ahmed Massacre Tigrayan Civilians Because TDF Shot Down This Military Plane?

What a wicked loser! 😈

✈️ The Lockheed C-130 Hercules four-engine turboprop military transport aircraft was given to War Criminal Abiy Ahmed Ali in 2018 by The then US Administration – a year later The Nobel Peace Prize 2019 was awarded to this warmonger – so that he could massacre ancient Christians of Tigray. Something makes sense, doesn’t it? Wow!

#TogogaMassacre | Patients are Dying Because Access to The Hospital Was Blocked by ‘Ethiopian’ Military

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on June 23, 2021

Medical Official: Air Strike Kills at Least 80 in Ethiopia’s Tigray

An air strike killed at least 80 people in the town of Togoga in Ethiopia’s Tigray region on Tuesday, a medical official told Reuters, after residents said new fighting had flared in recent days north of the regional capital Mekelle.

Ethiopian military spokesman Colonel Getnet Adane did not confirm or deny the incident. He said air strikes were a common military tactic and that government forces do not target civilians.

The bomb hit a market at around 1:00 p.m., according to a woman who said her husband and two-year-old daughter had been injured.

“We didn’t see the plane, but we heard it,” she told Reuters on Wednesday. “When the explosion happened, everyone ran out. After a time we came back and were trying to pick up the injured.”

The woman said the market had been full of families, and she did not see any armed forces in the area. “Many, many” people had been killed, she said.

Reuters could not independently verify her account. She and other sources asked not to be identified for fear of reprisals.

The medical official confirmed at least 80 fatalities, citing witnesses and first responders.

A spokesperson for Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and the head of a government task force on Tigray did not respond to requests for comment on the incident.

News of the airstrike came as Ethiopian officials counted ballots from national and regional parliamentary elections held this week in seven of the nation’s 10 regions.

No voting was held in Tigray, where the military has been battling forces loyal to the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF), the region’s former ruling party, since November. Security concerns and problems with ballot papers also delayed voting in two other regions.

Residents reported that TPLF forces had entered several towns north of Mekelle in the past three days, withdrawing from one of them within hours.

AMBULANCES BLOCKED

The official and two other health workers helping with the response in Togoga told Reuters on Wednesday that Ethiopian soldiers were blocking the main road from Mekelle to the town and preventing ambulances from reaching the scene.

“Patients are dying right now,” said the official.

He said two ambulances had been able to reach the town via a back road late on Tuesday but did not have the necessary equipment and were not being allowed to leave.

He said the teams had counted at least 40 dead at the scene, three people had died overnight, and there were 44 critically wounded patients needing treatment.

Another medical worker said around 20 health workers in six ambulances had tried to reach the wounded on Tuesday but soldiers stopped them at a checkpoint.

“They told us we couldn’t go to Togoga. We stayed more than one hour at the checkpoint trying to negotiate. We had a letter from the health bureau – we showed them. But they said it was an order.”

Military spokesman Getnet denied that the military was blocking ambulances.
