President Biden looked confused again Wednesday as he walked into a giant flag at the United Nations — then appeared to anger Brazil’s president by walking off stage without shaking his hand.
The gaffe-prone oldest US president in history walked into the seven-foot-tall Brazilian flag as he took the stage, taking a moment to get his bearings as the flag wobbled.
He then struggled with a headset of his translation device, soon noted by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva who was with him for a joint speech agreeing to partner on workers’ rights.
“Can you hear me, President Biden? This is a historic moment for Brazil and for the US,” the Brazilian leader asked.
When he did not immediately respond, Lula again asked: “President Biden can you hear me?”
He turned towards the 80-year-old president, who nodded in response — but continued to fumble with the headset throughout Lula’s speech.
At one point Biden dropped it and raised his eyebrows in frustration.
✞ Addison, TX—Historic Addison African American Church Founded by Freed Slaves Blocked by City Council Zoning Decision
A church founded by former slaves, back in 1884, has endured flash floods, the destruction of its building in a storm, the loss of another building in a fire, a trip through receivership and much, much more.
But it’s being prevented from holding its worship services and functioning as a ministry right now because its neighbors don’t like it.
First Liberty Institute and the law firm McDermott Will & Emery LLP submitted a demand letter today to the City Council of Addison urging officials to approve a zoning application for White Rock Chapel, a historic church founded by freed slaves. The chapel was designated a historic site by the Texas Historical Commission in 2000.
“It’s a shame that some residents in the neighborhood are opposing the church’s right to exist and aim to banish this historic landmark that symbolizes the freedoms granted to all Americans,” said Ryan Gardner, Counsel for First Liberty Institute. “The city should ignore the heckling of a handful of neighbors and allow this small, African American church to exemplify the core values of unity, diversity, and religious freedom that strengthen all communities.”
White Rock Chapel – founded by predominantly formerly enslaved men and women – purchased land and built the very first church out of rough-hewn logs near White Rock Creek following emancipation. In 1918, after enduring years of devastating flash floods, the congregation moved to higher ground at the current location. In August 2018, the current owners of White Rock Chapel purchased the property and brought it out of receivership. By doing so, they saved this historic church from demolition and preserved its rich history and legacy. They then sought building permits to restore the property. The city council denied the permits even after they were advanced by the city’s planning and zoning commission.
Today’s letter states, “The City’s denial deprives a historic church—founded almost 150 years ago by formerly enslaved men and women—of its right to religious exercise. More specifically, the City prevents the church from making essential improvements so that it can continue to exist as a place of worship. A small but influential group of opponents have fought—thus far successfully—to stop the church from doing so. But the law is clear. Opposition by a few, no matter how hostile or influential they are, cannot override the church’s right of religious exercise.”

🔥 At a press briefing on Friday, officials claimed that Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) gave ‘sensitive’ information to Egyptian officials.
Bob Menendez Charged with 3 Counts, Accused of Accepting ‘Cash, Gold, Home Mortgage Payments’ for Influence
Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and his wife, Nadine Menendez, each face three federal counts stemming from a 39-page indictment alleging they accepted bribes from New Jersey businessmen “in exchange for using Menendez’s power and influence as a Senator” not only to “protect and enrich” the men, but to “benefit the Arab Republic of Egypt.”
Per a copy of the indictment obtained and published by the New York Times, Menendez faces three counts: Conspiracy to Commit Bribery in violation of Section 201(b)(2)(A) and (C) under Title 18 of the U.S. Code, Conspiracy to Commit Honest Service Fraud under Sections 1343 and 1346 of Title 18 of the U.S. Code, and Conspiracy to Commit Extortion Under Color of Official Right under Section 1951(b)(2) and Section 1951(b)(3) of Title 18. The allegations stem from his and Nadine Menendez’s allegedly corrupt relationship with their codefendants, Wael Hana, Jose Uribe, and Fred Daibes.
At a press conference shortly after 11:00 a.m. Eastern, U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York Damian Williams laid out allegations of corruption against Menedez and the codefendants between 2018-2022:
The indictment alleges that through that relationship, the senator and his wife accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars of bribes in exchange for Senator Menendez using his power and influence, to protect and to enrich those businessmen and to benefit the government of Egypt. The indictment alleges that Hana Uribe, and Dabies, provided bribes in the form of cash, gold, home mortgage payments, a low show or no show job for Nadine Menendez, Mercedes Benz and other things of value to the senator and his wife.
The indictment alleges that Senator Menendez used his power and influence, including his leadership role on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, to benefit the government of Egypt in various ways. Among other actions, Senator Menendez allegedly provided sensitive, nonpublic U.S. government information to Egyptian officials and otherwise took steps to secretly aid the government of Egypt. We also allege that Senator Menendez improperly pressured a senior official at the U.S. Department of Agriculture to protect a lucrative monopoly that the government of Egypt had awarded to Hana, a lucrative monopoly that Hana then used to fund certain bribe payments.
