Former ambassador-at-large for international religious freedom Sam Brownback, who recently returned from a fact-finding mission to Armenia, said Azerbaijan is “strangling” the Christians in the region and that the blockade is the regime’s latest attempt at “religious cleansing.”

“They’re working to make it unlivable so that the region’s Armenian-Christian population is forced to leave, that’s what’s happening on the ground,” Brownback said in June.

What’s At Stake?

According to several experts who have spent time on the ground in Armenia, the Christian community in Nagorno-Karabakh is facing genocide.

“The situation is extremely urgent and existential,” Robert Nicholson, president of the Catholic human rights group the Philos Project, said in June.

“This is the oldest Christian nation facing again for the second time in only about a century the possibility of a genocide,” Nicholson added.

What is the Blockade About?

In 2020, with the backing of Turkey, Azerbaijan reignited the long-simmering conflict by invading Nagorno-Karabakh. A six-week conflict ended in Azerbaijan seizing control of Nagorno-Karabakh.

The war killed 6,800 combatants, displaced 90,000 people, and left over 100,000 Armenian Christians cut off from the rest of Armenia. A narrow road less than four miles long, called the “Lachin Corridor,” connects Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh and is the only way to get food and supplies to the Armenians living there.

In December 2022 pro-government Azerbaijanis, ostensibly protesting Armenian environmental violations, began blockading the Lachin Corridor, cutting off all access to aid. In April, the protests ended after Azerbaijani troops, defying warnings from the international community, established a military checkpoint on the road, continuing the blockade.

How is the Blockade Threatening Christian Lives?

ይህ ትውልድ ግን ይህ ሁሉ ግፍ እየተፈጸመ በአረመኔው ጋላ-ኦሮሞ ላይ ለማመጽ ስንፍናውና ይሉኝታው አሥሮታል። ትንሽ ተስፋ ጥየባቸው የነበሩት አቶ ልደቱ አያሌው፤ “ይህ መንግስት የኦሮሞ አይደለም፣ በሰሜኑ ለተፈጸመው የዘር ማጥፋት ወንጀል ኦሮሞ ተጠያቂ አይደለም ቅብርጥሴ” እያሉ በግብዝነት፣ መሓል ሰፋሪነትና በሁሉም ልወደድ ባይነት መንፈስ ሲቅለሰለሱ ስሰማቸው በጣም አቅለሸለሸኝ፤ ‘እንግዳውስ እንደተመኙት ወደ አዲስ አበባ ተመልሰው ይሂዱና ድምጽዎ ይዘጋ!’ ለማለት አስደፈረኝ። ሕዝቡ እንዳይነቃና ለውጥ እንዳይመጣ፤ በይሉኝታ በሽታ የተለከፉትና “ጠቅላይ ሚንስትሩ፣ ዶ/ር፣ እሳቸው…” እያሉ ሕዝቡን ስልታዊ በሆነ መልክ የሚያዘናጉት እንደ እነ አቶ ልደቱ አያሌው ያሉት ወገኖች ናቸው። ጠላቶቻችን እነማን እንደሆኑማ በደንብ ስለምናውቃቸው በቀጥታ ነው የምንዋጋቸው፣ እንደነ አቶ ልደቱ ያሉት ግን እየተለሳለሱ ስቃዩና መከራው የሚቆምበትን የለውጡን ጊዜ በማራቅ ላይ ናቸው።

❖ ከአምስት መቶ ዓመታት በፊት አሥር ሚሊየን የሚቆጠሩ ኦርቶዶክስ ክርስቲያን ኢትዮጵያውያን በኦቶማን ቱርኮች፣ በአረቦችና በአውሮፓውያን ተጨፍጭፈዋል / ጄነሳይድ ተፈጽሞባቸዋል።

❖ አርሜኒያውያንና ኢትዮጵያውያን በኢየሩሳሌም ገዳማት አሏቸው። እዚህም ቢሆን በተለያዩ ጊዚያት አድሎና በደል ይፈጸምባቸዋል።

እኔ ኢትዮጵያን የሚጠላው ሰይጣን ብሆን ኖሮ ልክ አሸባሪው አብዮት አህመድ አሊ እየሠራውን ያለውን ሥራ ሁሉ ነበር የምሠራው። የዚህ ቆሻሻ ተልዕኮ ኢትዮጵያን መደቆስና ማፈራረስ፣ ኢትዮጵያውያን ማዋረድና ለባርነት ማጋለጥ ነው። ከአል–ሲሲ ጋር በሶቺ ሲገናኝ ሩሲያ የአደራዳሪ ፍላጎት እንዳላት ፕሬዚደንት ፑቲን ፈቃደኝነታቸውን አሳይተው ነበር፤ ነገር በማግስቱ ፊቱን ወደ አሜሪካ አዙሮ ኢትዮጵያ ከሩሲያም ከአሜሪካም ድጋፍ እንዳታገኝ አደረጋት። ተመሳሳይ ክስተት በእህት ክርስቲያን አገር በአርሜኒያም እያየን ነው፤ የአርሜኒያው መሪ ልክ እንደ አብዮት አህመድ አሊ የባለሀብቱ ጆርጅ ሶሮስ ምልምል ስለሆነ አርሜኒያን ከሩሲያ በማራቅ ወደ አሜሪካ መጠጋቱን መረጠ፤ በዚህም ሩሲያን አስኮረፈ። አሁን ከአዘርበጃን ጋር ጦርነቱ ሲቀሰቀስ አርሜኒያ የሩሲያንንም የአሜሪካንንም ድጋፍ ለማግኘት አልተቻላትም። አባታችን አባ ዘ–ወንጌል በአንድ ወቅት እንዲህ ብለውን ነበር፦“ኢትዮጵያን በዚህ ወቅት እያስተዳደሯት ያሉት ጠላቶቿ ናቸው!”

በሉሲፈራውያኑ ጆርጅ ሶሮስ እና ባራክ ሁሴን ኦባማ እንዲሁም በአረቦች ድጋፍ የሚንቀሳቀሱት አብይ አህመድ እና ጀዋር መሀመድ ሁሉንም አብረው እንደሚያንቀሳቅሱና ሁሉንም ነገር በቅደም ተከተል እያዘጋጁ እንደሆነ ሚነሶታን ጠይቁ። የተዋሕዶ ልጆች ሆይ፡ በእነ ጀማል እና መሀመድ የሚመራው ሠራዊት አሁን ወደ ኦሮሚያ ወደተሰኘው ክልል ወታደሮች እልካለሁ ቢል አትመኑት፣ “ቤተክርስቲያንን እራሳችንን እንጠብቃለን!” ብለን መነሳሳት ስንጀምር ደንግጠው ነው፣ ማዘናጊያ ነው፤ በደሉ ሁሉ ለአንድ ዓመት ያህል ያለማቋረጠ ተፈጽሟል፤ ሠራዊቱን ሊያጠነክሩት የሚችሎትን ጄነራሎች አንድ ባንድ ገድሏል፤ ስለዚህ ዐቢይ አህመድና የጂሃድ ቡድኑ ከስልጣን መወገድ ይኖርበታል። አለቀ!
