BBC Scrubs ‘Ali’ From Munich Killer’s Name On TV, In Articles, AND On Social Media

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on July 24, 2016

DisInfo

The BBC has unilaterally chosen not to report the Munich attacker’s full name, in what appears to be an attempt to scrub any Muslim or Islamic heritage link to its coverage of the incident.

Most sources at this point suggest that Ali David Sonboly – the Munich attacker who targeted children and killed nine yesterday – is not connected to radical Islam, but the BBC has gone to extraordinary lengths to try to keep any reference to his heritage out of its coverage, opting to name him only as “David Sonboly”.

Other news organisations including the Wall Street Journal, Independent, Daily Mail, and Sky News named the attacker as “Ali David Sonboly” or “David Ali Sonboly”. CNN even referred to him simply as “Ali Sonboly”.

But the BBC had different ideas, opting to refer to him in their online news coverage, national and international broadcast coverage, and on social media (above) as “David Sonboly”.

At 3pm UK time on Saturday, the BBC made reference to the killer as Ali Sonboly. Within one hour however, the BBC had changed its references to the now dead culprit to “David Sonboly”. At 6:31pm, the news bulletin on the BBC News Channel referred to him as “David Sonboly” though at 6:32pm their correspondent in Germany referred to him as “David Ali Sonboly”.

Petition Calls on BBC to Keep Christian Output

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on July 3, 2016

BBCBias

An almost 12,000-signature petition has been handed to the BBC, asking it to reject proposals to reduce Christian programming.

It also calls for Aaqil Amhed to be removed from his position as Head of Religion and Ethics on the grounds of his “clear bias towards Islam and contempt for Christianity”.

The petition, which was handed to the BBC by Christian group Voice for Justice UK, was launched in May, after Mr Ahmed claimed the BBC was ‘too Christian‘ in its religious output, and should give more airtime to other faiths.

Mr Ahmed, who is a practising Muslim, has compiled a report suggesting that Muslim, Hindu and Sikh faiths should receive more programming airtime.

The report is currently being considered by the BBC’s Director-General, Lord Hall, who could make changes to religious output.

‘Misrepresented’

Speaking to Premier Rev Lynda Rose, CEO of Voice for Justice UK, said: “The UK is actually a Christian country, it’s established as such by statue, all our laws, our traditions, our culture is founded on Christian values, so it would seem entirely right that Christianity be given priority air time.”

“It is right that Christanity be respected for what it is, our values be respected, that it be presented fairly, and that in the programming schedules the status of Christanity as the established religion of this country should be recognised.”

“Even when it comes to general programming, Christians are being misrepresented or treated unfairly, they’re either portrayed as barmy, or they’re very much portrayed as endosring modern, secular views.”

BBC rhetoric to make more religious programmes

According to Premier, a BBC Spokesperson responded, saying: “We are actually intending to do more programming around Christianity and more on other faiths as well, so there is absolutely no question of an ‘either or’ on our output.

“BBC Head of Religion and Ethics, Mr Ahmed is not biased against Christianity programming, nor does he show any pro-Islamic bias and any suggestions that he does are ludicrous and unfounded.”

‘Anti-Christian at the BBC’

The BBC’s anti-Christian bias has been highlighted in recent years, by the Corporation’s own staff.

In 2006, Andrew Marr, the BBC’s former political editor, said: “The BBC is not impartial or neutral. It’s a publicly-funded, urban organisation with an abnormally large number of young people, ethnic minorities and gay people.

“It has a liberal bias not so much a party-political bias. It is better expressed as a cultural liberal bias.”

In 2011 a former BBC news anchor, Peter Sissons, said “left-wing bias is at the core of the BBC, in its very DNA”.

He went on to say: “[At the BBC] Islam must not be offended at any price, although Christians are fair game because they do nothing about it if they are offended.”

In 2013, former presenter Roger Bolton said the BBC thinks Christians who disagree with gay marriage are “throwbacks who are damaging the Church”.

He went on to add if the BBC interviews a Christian who objects to abortion on religious grounds, “they are treated as though they are just a bit barmy”.

‘Islamic State are Muslims and their doctrine is Islamic’

Mr Ahmed is the first Muslim to hold the position of Head of Religion and Ethics at the BBC. At a Lapido event in June, in response to criticism of the BBC’s use of the term ‘so-called Islamic State’, he stated that “The Islamic State are Muslims and their doctrine is Islamic.

Christian Concern’s Director of Islamic Affairs, Tim Dieppe, commented on the admission saying: “Ahmed is quite right to state that the Islamic State is Islamic. Christians should be unafraid to proclaim the Islamic basis for the brutal behaviour of the Islamic State. In this way we are loving our Muslim friends who need to recognise the true nature of Islam and come to experience the love of Christ.”

Listen to Tim Dieppe discuss the petition on Premier Radio’s Your News.

Rewriting History: The Rwandan Genocide Story That the BBC Didn’t Tell

“Propaganda is what the left wing BBC do best these days.

BBC-Protest-1-600x360

On Saturday 200 UK-based Rwandans, including many genocide survivors, protested outside the BBC offices in response to the documentary ‘Rwanda’s Untold Story’, which aired earlier in October. The demonstration followed a letter of complaint sent to the BBC’s director general, written by the survivors’ organisation Ibuka.

They point out that despite the BBC’s commitment to upholding truth and objectivity, the programme contained factual inaccuracies and seemed intent on reopening wounds in Rwanda. They expressed disbelief and disappointment that:

[A] few people who have their differences with the current government or the country were given a platform to politicise the Genocide and deny the planned and systematic killing of over one million people.’

My organisation, the Aegis Trust, manages the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Rwanda for the government of Rwanda. From here, documentation about the genocide is preserved, and peace and reconciliation programmes are run. For 12 years I have shied away from commenting publicly on growing genocide revision, concerned I might be interpreted as an apologist for the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), the country’s ruling party.

Now that this tide of denial has swollen into the mainstream media, I break my silence. I don’t argue with the BBC’s investigative role, nor do I defend the government of Rwanda against any allegations. However, the beloved and trusted BBC owe licence-fee payers an explanation as to how they could produce such specious content on the history of the genocide.

The BBC also presented the notion that Paul Kagame’s RPF did not stop the genocide, implying instead that the massacres against Tutsis were somehow all over by the time the RPF liberated the country. No other explanation is offered by the BBC as to how the genocide ended – perhaps because there is only one answer: the genocide ended when the RPF defeated the Hutu Power government, which was intent on exterminating every last Tutsi.

The programme also appears to blame Kagame for the death of Rwanda’s former president, whose plane was shot down on the eve of the genocide. While there remains no decisive evidence of who was responsible for the assassination, the BBC producers relied on the thinly sourced 2006 Bruguière report that blamed Kagame, without mentioning the more robust Trévidic report in 2012 that implicated Hutu extremists. Viewers are owed an explanation as to why they were given such a biased, partial view of the evidence.

The programme also puts the number of murdered Tutsi at 200,000, though most other estimates put the Tutsi death toll at four times that. One would expect the BBC to secure strong evidence before allowing such a divisive, inflammatory and offensive claim to be made. Again, however, the programme relied on academics who have been deeply criticised by other scholars for flawed calculations and extrapolations from unreliable data.

It is hard to lecture countries like Rwanda to raise media standards when the BBC airs documentaries with such shocking lack of balance. This week, as part of a group of scholars, journalists and lawyers, I added my voice to the protest in this open letter.

Rwanda Hits Back at America’s Ebola Paranoia

“Good for Rwanda! Protecting its people! Maybe we could learn from them and protect our own!

Rwanda will be begin screening all Americans entering the country for Ebola, regardless if they’re exhibiting symptoms or not, government officials in the East African nation announced Tuesday. Coincidence? The new measure comes just days after two Rwandan students were denied enrollment at a New Jersey school over Ebola fears, even though Rwanda has had zero cases of Ebola. The United States, on the other hand, has had three confirmed cases. Rwanda is also more than 2,500 miles from the closest Ebola outbreak in West Africa.

The US Embassy in Rwanda explains the situation:

On October 19, the Rwandan Ministry of Health introduced new Ebola Virus Disease screening requirements. Visitors who have been in the United States or Spain during the last 22 days are now required to report their medical condition—regardless of whether they are experiencing symptoms of Ebola—by telephone by dialing 114 between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. for the duration of their visit to Rwanda (if less than 21 days), or for the first 21 days of their visit to Rwanda. Rwandan authorities continue to deny entry to visitors who traveled to Guinea, Liberia, Senegal, or Sierra Leone within the past 22 days.

Although there’s no way to tell if the screenings are indeed motivated by retaliation for the ignorant panic displayed by the New Jersey school, this sure is an interesting turn of events.

Ebola Scares Prevent Oklahoma Students From Attending School

“This is a perfect teachable moment. Perhaps the school can dedicate an hour in the schoolday and show kids that the Ebola zone is closer to the U.S

AfricaNOCountry

Three students who just returned from a mission trip to East Africa caused Ebola scares at one Oklahoma high school.

Reports circulated on social media about the students returning to school and that raised fears of classmates coming into contact with people who might have been exposed to the virus; but there is currently no cause for alarm.

Inola School Superintendent, Dr. Kent Holbrook, said 18 students didn’t show up for class Monday because of the rumors

He said to ease fears school nurses are monitoring the three students who just returned from Ethiopia, but stresses they have never come into contact with anyone or anything associated with the deadly virus.

“You have to respond with facts rather than just the fear and I think that’s what’s happening,” Holbrook said.

Rumors started circulating through social media when parents in the Inola School District learned three students would be returning from a mission trip to Ethiopia last week.

Holbrook said rumors the students were exposed to the Ebola virus are just false.

“Our students were not exposed to Ebola. There was no person that was sick on the trip. There was no person sick Ethiopia while they were there. There was no person on the plane,” Holbrook said.

Ethiopia isn’t anywhere near the countries in Western Africa where people have contracted the deadly virus.

Holbrook said the three students were screened by officials when they re-entered the United States and were cleared to come to school.

“They just said, ‘where’ve you been?’ They told them, ‘Africa.’ ‘What part?’ They say said, ‘Ethiopia’ and said, ‘you’re clear, there’s never been a case out of there,'” said Holbrook.

T.J. Helling is the youth pastor who helped organize the mission trip for the students.

Amazing students, amazing students willing to give up their time and energy, their money, their fall break to go and serve others,” he said.

Helling’s heart is broken over the students being singled out because they went to Africa.

In The Information Age Disinformation/Misinformation Reign

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on November 17, 2013

My Note: In a rational world one could ask these days why governments, the united nations, the so-called humanitarian organizations and the mainstream media (including RT who made this report) are all involved in a conspiracy of silence concerning the ongoing cruel and inhuman treatment of poor Ethiopian immigrants by the Saudis. In a normal world, one would wonder why and how Saudi Arabia, one of the world’s ‘most flagrant human-rights abusers, is set to join the UN Human Rights Council. You would at least expect the weather report from ‘rainy’ Riyadh. Well, of course, we no longer live in a rational and normal world.

Thousands Protest Press Credibility in March Against Mainstream Media

MediaLiesThousands of people in the UK and US united in their rejection of mainstream media in a mass protest. Protesters targeted the headquarters of media giants like Fox News, the BBC and NBS, decrying their narrow coverage of world affairs.

The March Against Mainstream Media (MAMM) organized the international protest via social media and challenged the established media to cover it.

In a statement posted on the MAMM website, the organization said big media outlets had two options: “report on the fact that thousands of people are currently protesting outside of their buildings because they are keeping important news from the public’s eyes,” or ignore them.

Across America people turned out brandishing banners, condemning established news channels.

“Boycott the media!” one banner read in High Point California, while in Kansas city supporters of the movement wearing Anonymous masks delivered the message “America deserves the truth!”

A recurrent theme that cropped up a number of times in the US protests was the media’s coverage of the stricken nuclear plants in Fukushima Japan that were damaged in the 2010 earthquake-triggered tsunami.

“The radiation from that plant is going to reach us and affect us, not just in California but worldwide.  How is it going to affect us, how is it going to affect our water, our food supply, and our way of life?” said one protester to KMPH Fox 24.

Meanwhile in London, supporters of the anti-establishment movement gathered outside the offices of the BBC in a sit-in-style protest.

Confidence in US mainstream media has been declining sharply over the past couple of years with only 44 percent of Americans trusting mass media, according to a Gallup poll in September. The figures for this year are a slight improvement on 2012 when the survey saw trust in the media fall to a record low of 40 percent.

However, a large amount of Americans (46 percent) believe media has become too liberal, compared to only 13 percent who regard mainstream news coverage as overly conservative.

The BBC’s Christian Persecution Denial

BiaBBCWhile it is no secret that the so-called mainstream media habitually fails to report on the international phenomenon of Christian persecution, few are aware that they sometimes actively work to undermine the efforts of those who do expose it.

Consider a new report by the BBC titled “Are there really 100,000 new Christian martyrs every year?” by Ruth Alexander.

Regarding the all-important question of how many Christians around the world are killed, Alexander herself later quotes another source saying “there is no scientific number at the moment. It has not been researched and all experts in this area are very hesitant to give a figure.”

And this seems to be the real point.  Of all the questions and aspects of Christian persecution that objective researchers and reporters can explore and expose, why did the BBC pick the very one that 1) cannot be answered and 2) is ultimately irrelevant—at best academic, at worst cold and callous?

(The issue is less whether 100,000 Christians around the world are killed annually for their faith, but rather that any Christian, any human—even Alexander’s “paltry” 7,000—is being killed for their faith.)

The BBC naturally picked this “numbers” question because it best serves to minimize the specter of Christian persecution, specifically by prompting the casual reader to conclude, “Oh, well, things are certainly nowhere near as bad as I thought for Christian minorities outside the West—indeed, they’re 93% better!”

More importantly—and here we reach BBC policy—this number-crunching approach serves to exonerate the chief persecutor of Christians, the Islamic world, or, as Alexander is quick to conclude: “[t]his means we can say right away that the internet rumours of Muslims being behind the killing of 100,000 Christian martyrs are nonsense.” (Meanwhile, there’s this ongoing monthly series to deal with.)

Incidentally, since when do numbers matter to the supposedly “humanitarian-conscious” BBC and other “liberal” media where one life (provided it’s the “right” life) often gets nonstop coverage?  Would the BBC ever write a report dedicated to trying to show that the number of Palestinians killed in the conflict with Israel is actually 93% lower than widely believed?

Of course not. When it comes to the Arab-Israeli conflict, far from minimizing anything, the BBC regularly exaggerates to demonize Israel.

And therein lies the main lesson.  The BBC is not in the business of reporting facts but rather creating smokescreens, building and knocking down straw men, and chasing red herrings—all to further its narratives, in this case, that “only” 7,000-8,000 Christians are killed annually for their faith, and that the Islamic world is largely innocent—so what’s all the fuss about?

Over 100 Long-Lost “Doctor Who” Episodes Found by Dedicated Fans – in Ethiopia

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on October 7, 2013

The Sunday People can exclusively reveal that 106 BBC programmes have been unearthed featuring the first two doctors

A group of dedicated Doctor Who fans tracked down at least 100 long-lost episodes of the show gathering dust more than 3,000 miles away in Ethiopia.

It was feared the BBC programmes from the 1960s – featuring the first two doctors William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton – had vanished for all time after the Beeb flogged off a load of old footage.

But after months of detective work the tapes have been unearthed at the Ethiopian Radio and Television Agency.

A television insider said: “It is a triumph and fans everywhere will be thrilled.

“This is a really big deal for the BBC and is set to make them millions from the sale of the DVDs.”

A Manipulation that Does Not Honor the BBC Television Station

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on August 9, 2013

My Note: Another proof of the anti-Christian agenda of the BBC. Of course, the BBC & co. The BBC won’t dare to report why the Saudi regime spends billions of pounds each year promoting Wahhabism to fund children’s education in British faith schools and mosques. The BBC, as taxpayer funded corporation (In 2012, the collected license fee was £3.6 billion) doesn’t inform British citizens that jihadists freely promote and sell DVDs and books inside mosques with hate-filled invective against Christians and Jews. The BBC won’t report the presentation of women as intellectually congenitally deficient and in need of beating when they transgressed Islamic dress codes. The BBC won’t seriously examine why U.K. Muslim men are estimated to be responsible for 96.2% of all reported rapes, or why British women were attacked with acid in Zanzibar, Tanzania. Yet, Christianity and Christians are “fair game” for insults, inaccurate portrayals, ridicules and derogatory stereotypes.

AntiChristBBC2Iregard to the documentary titled “Although it is the poorest country of the EU, a church is built in Romania every three days”, presented by the BBC on 3 August 2013, and taken over with no critical discrimination whatsoever by some Romanian mass media sources, the Romanian Patriarchate explains:

The construction of new places of worship is not a caprice, but a liturgical must, especially in the urban areas, where the construction of churches was forbidden in the time of the communist regime. After 1990, at the initiative of the communities of faithful from all over the country supported by the local authorities, about 2000 places of worship were built or are being built, because those existent had no more room to accommodate the large number of Christians who attend the religious services. Their construction, painting and maintenance are financially sustained especially by the parochial communities who are their beneficiaries also.

As for the support from the state budget to the religious cults recognised (not only the Romanian Orthodox Church), according to the Ministry for Public Finances, this one amounts to 0.2% of the state budget or 0.08% of Romania’s GDP and it is the consequence of the confiscation of the church estates through the Law for the Secularisation of the Church Estates (1863) and by the communist regime of Romania beginning with 1948. A possible interruption of the support from the state budget to the religious cults may follow after the retrocession of all the church estates owned and exploited by the Romanian State.

As for the financial support from the State Budget for building the Cathedral for the Nation’s Salvation, this one is in accordance with the Law for Religious Affairs (489/2006) and Law for the Cathedral for the Nation’s Salvation (376/2007).

Moreover, the National Fund-Raising for constructing the Cathedral for the Nation’s Salvation has been taking place for over two years, with the participation of many donors, especially priests and faithful.

All the inaccurate information presented in the BBC documentary are taken from the same tendentious source (Secular Humanist Association of Romania), as Deutsche Welle television channel did in August 2011, who made a similar reportage, of which argumentation was discouraged by the Romanian Patriarchate at the time. For example two years ago, the Deutsche Welle reportage used the same pathetic and alarming rhetoric concerning the construction of the Cathedral for the Nation’s Salvation through the appreciation of the cost of its infrastructure, red-grey stage, to over 600 million euro. In reality, the cost estimated by experts amount to 100 million euro, and after achieving the infrastructure of the future Patriarchal Cathedral (finished in April 2013), it was diminished by 20%.

As for the explanation of the author of the BBC documentary, according to which the representatives of the Romanian Orthodox Church have not accepted an interview to express their point of view, we mention:

A few days after finishing the infrastructure of the Cathedral for the Nation’s Salvation, possibly at the suggestion of its opponents, two journalists from BBC – one from Romania, Mr Paul Andrei Lungu, and the other one married to a Romanian, Romanian language speaking and with a good command of the Romanian traditions, Mrs Tessa Dunlop – asked for the support of the Romanian Patriarchate to achieve as soon as possible a reportage both on the “popularity of the Romanian Orthodox Church and on the publicizing of the actions of the Romanian Orthodox Church” at the international level. The application of the two journalists caused confusion concerning their good intentions, taking into account their previous journalistic activity, the very short time established for filming (only a few days), contrary to the British Institution media usage, and their insistence to film at the building yard of the Cathedral for the Nation’s Salvation according to a rather strange plan. In this sense, very relevant is the fact that the BBC journalists asked for interventions at the Romanian Patriarchate to be allowed to film, through the representatives of the Romanian diplomacy in London and of the British diplomacy in Bucharest.

In conclusion, the authors of the BBC documentary succeeded in overshadowing the image of one of the most appreciated international institutions for the professionalism and accurate information presented, through the exclusive presentation of the information suggested by the representatives of an anti-religious and anti-clerical trend of Romania or through the interviews taken only from some interlocutors attentively selected for the purpose. The tendency to exaggerate and to convey the false message according to which Romania is the “poorest country of the EU” because of the Romanian Orthodox Church, a country with an educational, medical and social assistance system in crisis, with no proof in this regard, does not honor the British Television channel.

Moreover, we think it is a more dignified attitude for a Christian European people to build new churches, necessary to large communities, than sell empty churches because they lack faithful, to be changed into commercial or sporting spaces, as often happens in Great Britain and other secularized countries of the West, to the surprise of other religions.

What Will Happen When ‘Bilderberger’ Jeff Bezos Takes Over The Washington Post?

NewsPaperDAmazon.com founder and Bilderberg member Jeff Bezos is all set to take control of the Washington Post from the Graham family who have owned the media publication for four generations.

Bezos paid $250 million for the Washington Post, along with the Express newspaper and several local weeklies bundled in.

Interestingly, the Bezos deal comes on the heals of another major media move, with the New York Times announcing that it’s selling its ownership in The Boston Globe. When the NYT purchased The Boston Globe in 1993 it had paid $1.1 billion for it. 20 years later, it’s had to dump it for a paltry $70 million.

So is Jeff Bezos betting on a dead horse? Some believe that both the Graham family and New York Times have seen the writing on the wall, and that traditional print titles are nothing but a dying breed – and a liability.

When Don Graham took over the helm of his family’s icon newspaper title in 1979, the Washington Post shared the responsibility of setting America’s news agenda with another media giant, The New York Times. But the old media paradigm has shifted drastically in the 21st century, where titles like the Post and Times have to compete with online content.

Media power is no longer concentrated in the hands of four newspapers on either side of the Atlantic. The competition for the digital English language market is not only restricted to other US mainstream print publications online; it’s also spread across a wide sector of online majors like Gawker, Daily Beast, Huffington Post, Drudge Report, to name only a few. Behind them are thousands of blogs and aggregators. Another rising trend is also cutting into America and the UK’s monopoly on English language news and commentary, as global English language news outlets continue to pop up in Europe, Asia, Russia and even Iran. All of this cuts into a market which used to be sewn up by a handful of majors.

Some pundits remained stunned that a dotcom kingpin is acquiring a major US news gathering institution like the Washington Post. For some, it brought back memories of AOL’s deal which scooped up another American media institution – Time Warner.

British Children ‘Must Be Taught Christianity’

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on November 26, 2012

My note: While the tabloid, ‘Daily Express’ titled this report accurately, the BBC is ratcheting up the propaganda that paints the Christians faith in the usual hateful manner by twisting the truth on the same poll with a very cynical headline, “Teaching of Christianity ‘lacks intellectual development‘” The Corporation is getting ever more disgraceful even after the recent embarrassing blunders and scandals  (must read) How low can this, once great broadcaster go?

SCHOOLCHILDREN need to be taught Christianity so they can understand British history and culture, a poll of parents has revealed.

Almost two-thirds believe Christianity is key to our history and over half think it is important to help children understand British culture.

Nearly half say more attention should be given to teaching Christianity in RE lessons – but a third say many teachers do not know enough about it themselves.

The Oxford University poll of nearly 2,000 adults found most wanted children to be taught the history of the religion, major festivals like Easter and Christmas and Christian morality.
