After the synagogue shooting, Hamas spokesman Hazem Qassem lauded the attack, saying it proved “the resistance knows how to find the appropriate response” to Israeli “crimes.” Palestinian Islamic Jihad also praised the massacre.

💭 On October 25, 2022, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum issued a warning of a heightened risk of genocide in Ethiopia’s Tigray region. According to the statement, “the situation has deteriorated exponentially as Ethiopian security forces, supported by Eritrean forces and Amhara special forces, have seized key towns and cities imperiling vulnerable Tigrayan civilians.”

As the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum added, “ethnic-based targeting and the commission of mass atrocities have been an intentional strategy of parties to the conflict between the Ethiopian and regional Tigrayn governments and their allies that began November 2020. In the past two years crimes against humanity and war crimes have been perpetrated with impunity. These crimes include murder, rape, sexual violence, persecution, and other inhumane acts. There is growing evidence of sexual slavery and forced pregnancy.”

This is not the first such warning concerning the situation in Ethiopia and the risk of genocide. Indeed, in December 2021, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum identified several warnings signs of potential genocide against the Tigray people including, “reports of massacres and other targeted killings of Tigrayn civilians, dehumanization and hate speech—amplified on social media—encouraging violence against members of the group, mass arrests and arbitrary detention, and possible collective punishment in the form of a human-made famine in the Tigray region.”

The warning comes also after, on October 17, 2022, the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said that, “the situation in Ethiopia is spiraling out of control. Violence and destruction have reached alarming levels. The social fabric is being ripped apart. (…) Civilians are paying a horrific price. Indiscriminate attacks — including in residential areas — are killing more innocent people every day, damaging critical infrastructure and limiting access to vital services. Hundreds of thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes since hostilities resumed in August, many of them for the second time. We are also hearing disturbing accounts of sexual violence and other acts of brutality against women, children and men.”

These reports are not new. Among others, in August 2021, Amnesty International, published a report concluding that sexual violence in the context of the conflict “has been accompanied by shocking levels of brutality, including beatings, death threats, and ethnic slurs. (…) It is often accompanied by threats and by additional acts of physical and psychological torture aimed at causing lasting fear, and physical and psychological damage.” The majority of the interviewed women and girls were gang raped. The victims included children and pregnant women. Some of the abused women and girls were held in sexual slavery for several weeks. As Amnesty International concluded: “The patterns of sexual violence emerging from survivors’ accounts indicate that the violations have been part of a strategy to terrorize, degrade, and humiliate both the victims and their ethnic group.” In December 2021, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch published a detailed account of the situation in Tigray, indicating that “Amhara security forces are responsible for a surge of mass detentions, killings, and forced expulsions of ethnic Tigrayns in the Western Tigray territory of northern Ethiopia.”

The bigger fear is the West could become complicit in this strategy of forced relocation by funding the IDP camps via U.N., U.S., or EU aid agencies, while hostile soldiers effectively control a vital region that straddles trade corridors connecting Ethiopia to Djibouti and Sudan.

Another European diplomat, who agreed this potential encampment tactic may be unfolding, said the situation in Tigray is now “terrible.”

Since the start of the war in Tigray, diplomats, NGOs, and academics have worried about the possible fragmentation of Ethiopia, a development that would not only lead to mass violence within the country but would also destabilize its neighborhood, where it has historically played a key stabilizing role. Yet diplomatic overtures so far have been ineffectual—and appear to be getting even worse.

The European Union’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, currently embroiled in a scandal for referring to the rest of the world as a “jungle,” has been an outspoken critic of the war, repeatedly denouncing the Ethiopian government. But this megaphone diplomacy from Brussels has irked EU officials on the ground, with many claiming it has derailed their efforts in Addis Ababa as perceived bias for the TPLF.

Merkeb Negash Yimesel, a Tigray government representative based in Brussels, described the renewed campaign as “genocide,” as government forces are violently evicting civilians and forcing them to shelter in camps for internally displaced people, or IDPs.

“Ethiopia and Eritrea didn’t really mince words as far as their genocidal intent to exterminate Tigrayans,” he said. “The goal of this latest offensive is to fundamentally degrade Tigray’s social base, that is the people. That’s where the plan of manufacturing as many as 3 million IDPs in Tigray comes in.”

Mehari Taddele Maru, an Ethiopian from Tigray now based at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy, urged the U.N. Security Council to intervene, comparing the situation in Tigray with the 1994 Rwanda genocide against Tutsis.

“The plan is for accelerated depopulation. It is part of the extermination of the Tigrayan ethnicity, crime against humanity, war crimes,” he said. The head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, also Tigrayan, has also raised concerns of a looming genocide.

“The world is not paying enough attention. There is a very narrow window now to prevent genocide in Tigray,” he told reporters at the WHO headquarters in Geneva on Wednesday.

These claims were put to Billene Seyoum Woldeyes, Abiy’s press secretary, who did not immediately respond to messages.

Yimesel, the Tigrayan representative in Brussels, said the international community does not want to acknowledge what is happening, in order to skirt the responsibility of protecting millions of people facing a dire humanitarian crisis.

“At this point, I am not even sure it is a [Western diplomatic] failure at all or a tacit green-light to do this,” he said.

Christian Solidarity Worldwide Calls for Action on Genocide on Holocaust Memorial Day

As the world marks Holocaust Memorial Day, Christian Solidarity Worldwide (CSW) calls for swift intervention in current situations where atrocity crimes may currently be underway.

Signatories to the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide (Genocide Convention) are under an obligation to take measures to prevent and to punish this crime. However, indicators of genocide and other atrocity crimes are rarely addressed in a timely manner, as attempts to do so become mired in international politics, resulting in a failure to protect vulnerable communities.

there are indications that atrocity crimes may be underway in Ethiopia’s Tigray region, where a violent conflict has been ongoing since November between the Ethiopian authorities and the Tigray Peoples’ Liberation Front (TPLF), formerly the regional authorities. The Ethiopian authorities, whose forces are fighting alongside soldiers from Eritrea and Somalia and a militia the Amhara region, claim they are only targeting the Tigrayan leadership and its forces. However, over the course of the conflict, egregious human rights violations have been reported, including mass rape, extrajudicial killings of men and boys in particular, extensive looting and the indiscriminate bombing of homes, churches, mosques, educational establishments, and other civilian structures.

A particularly egregious example of the violations underway in Tigray is the reported massacre, allegedly by Eritrean forces, of around 750 people at the Maryam Zion Church in Axum, which is believed to house the biblical Arc of the Covenant. While details surrounding these extrajudicial killings have been slow to emerge, it is currently alleged that the victims were attempting to protect the Arc from government-allied militia from the Amhara ethnic group, who sought to relocate it to their region. Tigray is home to several world heritage sites, and the massacre occurred against the backdrop of extensive looting of ancient religious manuscripts and objects.

The Eritrean government stands accused of committing crimes against humanity since 1991. In a joint letter issued in November 2020 to various officials of the United Nations (UN) and the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights, CSW and eight other organizations had raised concerns regarding the presence of thousands of Eritrean troops in Tigray, which posed a serious threat to the wellbeing of Eritrean refugees in the region. The letter also highlighted concerning reports of refugees being forcibly returned to Eritrea in an appalling violation of international law and humanitarian norms.

I personally witnessed how fast Christian asylum-seekers from Albania, Serbia and Macedonia were deported to their respective countries while Muslims from the same states are allowed to stay longer.They intend to replace Christians and Jews with Muslims. I said, whaaaaaaaat!

Some fifteen years ago I remember visiting one of the McDonald’s restaurants in Brussels where an Arab employee refused to serve me because he saw The Cross worn about my neck. I remember telling this to my friends who did not believe then it would happen. Now this sort of disgraceful act happens all over Europe to non-Muslims.

The Jews are leaving Europe in their droves. Those who remain are afraid to express their Jewishness because the hateful Arabs might attack them. For the time being, in “Christian” Europe, Muslims are free to do whatever they want. But, what’s wrong with the Europeans? Are they coerced, possessed or damned? What have they done to deserve this plague?

It’s truly mind boggling that a boatload of enemy aliens are immediately released into to the general population to rape, murder, lie, cheat and steal. And most incomprehensible of all they are given immediate access to the natives treasury. We are no longer citizens – we are becoming colonized natives.

The following interesting article was published in a Spanish Internet magazine, Gentiuno, on November 21, 2004. Written by Sebastian Vivar Rodriguez, it has been widely circulated on the Internet with good re ason. It sums up the tragedy and present agony of Europe as it faces a very gloomy future. This is what it says:

All European Life Died in Auschwitz

I walked down the street in Barcelona , and suddenly discovered a terrible truth – Europe died in Auschwitz .. We killed six million Jews and replaced them with 20 million Muslims. In Auschwitz we burned a culture, thought, creativity, talent. We destroyed the chosen people, truly chosen, because they produced great and wonderful people who changed the world.

The contribution of this people is felt in all areas of life: science, art, international trade, and above all, as the conscience of the world. These are the people we burned.

And under the pretense of tolerance, and because we wanted to prove to ourselves that we were cured of the disease of racism, we opened our gates to 20 million Muslims, who brought us stupidity and ignorance, religious extremism and lack of tolerance, crime and poverty, due to an unwillingness to work and support their families with pride.

They have blown up our trains and turned our beautiful Spanish cities into the third world, drowning in filth and crime.

Shut up in the apartments they receive free from the government, they plan the murder and destruction of their naive hosts.

And thus, in our misery, we have exchanged culture for fanatical hatred, creative skill for destructive skill, intelligence for backwardness and superstition.

We have exchanged the pursuit of peace of the Jews of Europe and their talent for a better future for their children, their determined clinging to life because life is holy, for those who pursue death, for people consumed by the desire for death for themselves and others, for our children and theirs.

What a terrible mistake was made by miserable Europe!
