Saudi Understatement

The title for the most demure delegation will go, as always, to Saudi Arabia. The Saudis have rented out the entirety of Hamburg’s swanky Four Seasons hotel – Trump tried to book himself in and got refused – and that’s only 160 rooms of the 400 in total the delegation will occupy. A hotel ballroom has been repurposed as a suitably spacious living room, and Saudi King Salman ibn Abd al-Aziz will be bringing his own throne and a golden escalator with which to disembark his airplane.

There are also reports that camels will be flown in to supply the delegation with fresh camel’s milk, but Hamburg police say they know nothing about this and the Saudi Arabian embassy denied it. But even without the dromedaries, the Saudis are guaranteed to make a oil-rig-sized splash.

King Salman will, of course, be bringing with him a battery of personal chefs, and the other heads of state might want to consider doing the same. The German Foreign Ministry says that the catering for the summit will particularly emphasize “regional specialties.” Northern Germany, however, isn’t known for its cuisine, with good reason. Local favorites include smoked eel, “pears, beans and bacon,” and “Labskaus,” corned-beef hash with pickled herring and red beets and topped with a fried egg. What isn’t better with a fried egg on top?

The good news for those world leaders who decide they’d rather go out to eat after all, is that G20 participants will be given free passes to use Hamburg’s subway and bus system. So look out for lots of heads of state on public transport.

Europe: Police Dogs Used Against Christians Protesting Injustice – But Not Against The Islamic Grinches Who’re Trying to Ruin Christmas

When I saw this astounishing report that 1000 Muslims blocked London streets chanting Allahu Akbar to demand Islamic caliphate – I was in a comparative mode thinking of a shockingly radical measure taken by police in Hamburg last year against Eritrean (Ethiopian) Christians who blocked a street in a protest – and the green Muslim Grinches that are out there trying to ruin the Christmas atmosphere in London.

Back then, Eritrean refugees were forced by the police to end their protest concerning discriminatory actions taken in an asylum center where they domiciled. This news got no international attention. But, the local media, as usual, used and twisted the story to manipulate public opinion against African Christians, as follows:

Eritrean Refugees Attack Police Dogs

53 Eritrean “Refugees” punched and kicked police dogs in Hamburg, Germany because they were unhappy about the length of their stay in an initial reception center after they decided to block the Drateln Street in Wilhelmsburg. They protested over what they claimed was preferential treatment being given to Syrians in their center. Even the comments section of this story was more sympathetic towards the police dog than the Eritrean Christians. Amazing!

I was told then by one of the Eritreans from Hamburg, that, in the first reception center, refugees are normally kept for a couple of weeks, but – while the Syrians were transferred out of the camps and given apartments and houses – the Eritreans were kept there for up to six and more months.

Compared to Arab, Albanian or Afghani refugees, most Eritreans are quite, reserved and respectful of local laws and authorities, but this time their displeasure was understandable, as they were first provoked by the ‘experiment-addicted’, mostly anti-Christian authorities.

Anyways, to resolve the situation, the police came with German shepherd dogs and attacked the Eritreans. According to the police narration, a 35-year-old Eritrean hit one of the police dogs. The police dog jumped on the Eritrean, so he fell on the footpath. While lying on the ground he tried to fight off the dog, but the dog grabbed him by the wrist. The man was taken into custody. He suffered a slight injury to his wrist, but refused a medical examination.

You can find how hateful, indifferent and judgmental everyone was by reading the commentaries and the articles on this and other cases.

Can you imagine police dogs sent to grab those criminal Arab Muslims who molested and raped German women in Cologne? In fact, most of those molesters were set free by the police. Mind you, a year on and after, there were more than 1,000 criminal charges, but there have been few arrests and convictions.

Can you imagine police dogs – dogs are hated by Muslims – brought by the London police to scare off or grab those 1000 Muslim supremacists who blocked the streets of London demanding Islamic Caliphate during this Christmas season? 

Can you imagine the outrage if something of a sort happened?

Christians Forced to Hide Their Faith From ‘Abusive’ Muslim Refugees

CHRISTIAN refugees have been forced to hide their faith from Muslim refugees who bully them over their religion.

According to German newspaper Zeit a number of refugees in Hamburg said they feel unsafe and fear for their safety because of their faith.

Dena Kasravi, a Christian convert from Iran, spent years attending illegal bible groups in her homeland but after making her way to Germany said she still lives in fear.

The 33-year-old said: “If they find out, I will be fair game. Everyone will have the right to destroy me. Some Muslims even think it is their obligation.

“I can’t get rid of the fear.”

Miss Kasravi’s name has been changed and other Christian refugees say they are repeatedly verbally attacked by Muslim refugees.

One young Iranian woman said a Syrian man questions her every day about why she does not wear a headscarf and cover herself up.

Security guards at refugee camps in Hamburg have reportedly told the Christian residents to keep their faith a secret, claiming they cannot protect them if their secret is revealed.

Miss Kasravi and two dozen refugees have set up a secret church at the camp but none of them wear a cross or reads the Bible in front of the Muslim refugees.

The group are unable to escape questioning, particularly during Ramadan where every Muslim at the camp was asked to sign a list if they were taking part.

An Iraqi man questioned Miss Kasravi about why her name wasn’t on the list.

The 33-year-old was forced to lie and pretend she was not allowed to fast due to a thyroid problem.

Only Armenians and Assyrians are permitted to practise Christianity in Iran.

All other Christian activity is forbidden with 108 Christians arrested for attending underground churches in the Islamic republic in the last year.

According to Zeit the number of Christians has increased in Hamburg with Iranian Christians able to seek asylum in Germany to escape persecution in Iran.

One refugee, who did not wish to be named, said: “The denouncing of your faith is heavily punished in Iran. Therefore converting to another religion was one of the few reasons Iranians would get asylum in Germany.”

The Alpha and Omega International Church said last year they had about 250 members in Hamburg, now they have 450, with up to ten new people attending mass each week.

Concerns have been raised that desperate refugees are converting just to improve their chances of being granted asylum.

Dietlind Jochims, Commissioner for Refugees of the North Church, said: “It would be naive to think that people do not grasp at any straw that might give them a better chance to stay, but it’s not up to clerics to test the strength of someone’s faith.”

But despite a surge in refugees attending church, Stefan Heße, archbishop of Hamburg, said the church can take up to a year before deciding to baptise someone.

Asylum officials are also trained to ask questions about religion and expect converts to be able to explain fully why they converted and what it means to them.

Miss Kasravi’s experience comes in the wake of a study that found Christian refugees, particularly converts from Islam to Christianity, have been attacked, abused or harassed at refugee centres in Germany.

A report from Open Doors, a Christian aid organisation, said more than 80 per cent of Christian refugees had suffered at the hands of Muslims at refugee camps set up to deal with the 1.2million refugees who have arrived in Germany during the last 18 months.

Others claimed the German authorities were not doing enough to protect them.

People In a Zoo

Just less than 100 years ago, one  could visit a Zoo near Hamburg, Germany, where, alongside the animals, were displayed Lapps and Nubians, Ethiopians and Indians.

During the times of Emperor Wilhelm ll when Zoos were keen to show, not only wild animals, but, men, women and children from exotic countries – displayed like cattle. Africans and Asians were exhibited as human figures with kinship to specific animal species, thus literalizing the colonialist zeugma yoking “native” and were less than human.

People came in droves to watch the controversial spectacle

“You could not exactly call our guests beautiful”, jokes the animal dealer Carl Hagenbeck in the summer of 1874 on the extension of the park to the latest delivery from Lapland “Their skin color is a dirty yellow, the skull is round with firm black hair overgrown, they have slant-eyes, the nose is small and flat.”

The idea was a resounding success, and Hagenbeck was proud of his Human-Zoo/Menagerie project: “It was granted to me, The first exhibits in the civilized world of this sort were granted to me,” said the entrepreneur in his own memoirs. Though, people from other continents have been presented since the Middle Ages at fairs and Prince farms, but, Carl Hagenbeck was the first animal-dealer and subsequent Zoo-founder who made the idea a commercially success – and the first organizer of large-scale “anthropological-zoological exhibits,” as he himself called his spectacles.

“Hottentots” for Science

The concept of Hagenbeck’s ethnic-event in the Menagerie was something completely new: For the first time in human history, a complete group of people, including animals, housing and equipment was shown together. The intention of such an exhibition was to let the European observers make for themselves a realistic picture of the daily life of each ethnic group. After the sensational success with the Northern Lapps, Hagenbeck’s agents advertised all over the world more exotic “guests” to the white audience: Nubians from Sudan, Inuits from Greenland and Canada, Ethiopians, Somalis, Indians and Sinhalese, even “Hottentots” from the German colony of Southwest Africa. Hagenbeck and his peoples-show will soon be on tour throughout Europe with a pleasant shiver in front of the “savages” to admire.

The famous doctor from Berlin, Rudolf Virchow, through his ethnological studies, gave an academic coating or application to these commercial performances. Virchow, now considered as one of the founding fathers of modern medicine, was also chairman of the German Society for Anthropology, Ethnology and prehistorical Studies. He examined many of the participants of the peoples-shows, surveyed their body and head shapes, and made assumptions about the intelligence of the various specimens of exotic people.

Thus, he was in line with the science of his time, which tried to define the human “races” and to examine them in a hierarchical order. In one article, Virchow praises the scientific importance of Hagenbeck’s exhibitions: “This sort of imagination about people is very interesting for anyone who wants to be convinced about the position, human in Nature ever takes in, and on the development, which the human race has traversed.

Such expositions gave Utopian form to White supremacist ideology, legitimizing racial hierarchies abroad and muting class and gender divisions among Whites at home by stressing national agency in a global project of domination.

This successful Peoples-Exposition took place at the peak of European colonialism, just before the beginning of the First World War. This was an era in which Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany demanded a “Place in the Sun” for Colonial Germany. Most contemporaries, as well as Hagenbeck himself, did sense the issue of exhibiting exotic people parallel to exotic animals not as offensive – after all, they were firmly convinced of the superiority of the “white man”. Carl Hagenbeck’s sons continued displaying the Exposition even up until 1931, visitors were forced to look away from the famous exhibition, when Cinema, in the late 1930s, had replaced the productions as a venue for exotic.
