💭 A Nigerian woman, identified as Chizoba Favour Eze, has died after she was allegedly brutalised by policemen in Ethiopia.

According to multiple sources, the young woman died because of injuries inflicted on her by the police personnel attached to Kaliti prison, a maximum security prison in Addis Abba.

SaharaReporters learnt that Eze, who was an inmate in the facility, died on Sunday.

It was gathered that her corpse was left inside the cell for over 36 hours by the prison management who allegedly prevented other inmates from informing the Nigerian embassy about the incident.

“A Nigerian woman, Chizoba Favor Eze has been brutalised to death at Kaliti Prison in Ethiopia. She died on the 12/3/2023. It’s so sad that the policemen killed our sister. They gave her internal injury on her chest after brutally hitting her on the breasts which led to her death.

“After a week, she started feeling sick because of the result of the internal injuries she had inside her body. They took her to the hospital for the first time to receive treatment and the doctor gave her injection and they brought her back to her room. The deceased started feeling weak again and they took her to the hospital on Saturday being 11/3/2023, then they brought the same injection which the deceased complained bitterly that the injection was not good on her body, she added that she didn’t want take any injection again, and they gave her the injection forcefully.

“On Sunday morning she died. She died inside her room which made the other foreigners, such as Brazilian, Venezuelan women and others felt bad because the injection the deceased took led to her death.

“The foreigners went through the bag of the deceased and took the Nigerian embassy’s telephone number in order to call the embassy, because the deceased body was there with them in the room for over 36 hours, so the foreigners decided to call the embassy of Nigeria to tell them what was happening, the police women refused that they should call the embassy.

“The foreigners started protesting, and the police women called the police men to the zone, when they came, they started beating all the foreigners brutally and wounded so many of them, of which some of them that went to court yesterday (Monday) complained bitterly to the judges. We are calling on the embassy of Nigeria in Ethiopia to help us,” a source told SaharaReporters.

SaharaReporters had recently reported that over 300 Nigerians were presently languishing in the Ethiopian prison facility.

Some of them had called on the Nigerian government to facilitate their transfer to prisons in Nigeria.

The detainees said they suffer grave human rights abuses in prison.

In a letter addressed to President Muhammadu Buhari and the Nigerian embassy in Ethiopia, they also complained of starvation, lack of access to medical care, corporal and capital punishment, and overcrowding.

“The Nigerian inmates in Kaliti maximum prison Ethiopia are soliciting help from the Nigerian government; we ask that the government come to our aid urgently.

“We lack access to water, food and medical care. We are asking the government to intervene so we can serve the rest of our jail terms in Nigeria. Many of us have fallen ill due to malnourishment, the health infrastructure is weak, and inmates are suffering from precarious health issues,” part of the letter read.

💭 Police Brutality in Iran (Elam)

An amateur video that has emerged on social media appears to show Iranian police officers beating a man, running over him with a motorcycle, and then firing at him.

Police said they will investigate the video posted online on November 1. It is not known when the video was recorded.

Some reports suggested that the footage was recorded in the southern Tehran neighborhood of Naziabad, which has been the scene of anti-regime protests triggered by the death in custody of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who was detained in mid-September by Iran’s notorious morality police for “improperly wearing” her hijab.

The 1^st video recorded at night in an alley shows about a dozen purported police officers beating a man who is lying on the ground. A person who is recording the scene from a building across the street is heard cursing the aggressors.

“Damn you, damn you,” a male voice says in the video.

At one point, a man in police uniform riding a motorcycle appears to run over the man. Shortly after, another uniformed man beats the victim with a baton, then another one shoots him at close range.

The man initially tries to cover his head with his hands. Later, his legs appear to be motionless.

The man recording the scene is heard saying, “He died, he died.”

The video comes amid a brutal state crackdown on nearly seven weeks of antiestablishment protests that erupted following the September 16 death of Amini.

Women have removed and burned their hijabs, the mandatory Islamic headscarves, while many of the protesters have called for an end to the Islamic republic. “Woman, life, freedom” and “Death to the dictator” have been among the main chants of the protesters.

The authorities have claimed that Iran’s enemies are behind the unrest.

More than 250 people have been killed in the crackdown, according to rights groups. Several thousand more have been arrested, including many protesters as well as journalists, lawyers, activists, digital rights defenders, and others.

Without providing any evidence, Iran’s police chief, General Hossein Ashtari, claimed last month that “counterrevolutionary groups abroad” wore police uniforms and fired into the crowds. He claimed some of the alleged fake police officers had been arrested.

Amnesty International said on Twitter that that the video was “another horrific reminder that the cruelty of Iran’s security forces knows no bounds.”

“Amid a crisis of impunity, they’re given free rein to brutally beat and shoot protesters,” the London-based rights watchdog added while calling on the UN Human Rights Council to “urgently investigate the crimes.”

The shocking scenes have caused outrage among Iranians on social media with many condemning the violence.

“These brutal conditions are a sign that the establishment is on the verge of collapse,” Abdollah Momeni, a prominent activist and former political prisoner, said on Twitter, adding that the violence reflected the regime’s “fear of the people.”

Shadi Sadr, a human rights lawyer and the co-founder of the rights group Justice for Iran, told RFE/RL that the international community needed to do more to pressure the Islamic republic to stop its crackdown on protesters.

“The actions taken by the international community so far have not deterred the Islamic republic from stopping the bloodshed,” Sadr said.

እንዳያደርጉት እየጠየኩኝ እና እየለመንኳቸው ነበር፤ እናም ሰልፈኞቹ ምንም [ወንጀል]አልፈፀሙም አልኳቸው። እንደ እብድ ሰው እያለቀስኩ ነበር። ጫጩቶቹን እንደምትጠብቅ እንደ እናት ዶሮ ነበርኩ ተቃዋሚዎችን ወደደበደቡበት እየሮጥኩ ነበር። ይህም ክሊኒኩ ፊት ለፊት ነበር ። ልክ እንደ ጦርነት ነበር። ከብዙ ሰዎች ይልቅ እኔ ብሞት ይሻላል ብዬ አሰብኩ።

ጮክ ብዬ እያለቀስኩ ነበር። ጉሮሮየም ህመም ላይ ነበር። ዓላማዬ ሰዎች እንዲያመልጡ እና የተቃውሞ ሰልፎችን እንዲያደርጉ እና የፀጥታ ኃይሎችን ለማስቆም ነበር። ሰዎችን ማሰሩን እንዳይቀጥሉ ጠየቅኳቸው። እየለምንኳቸው ነበር። በዚያን ጊዜ አልፈራሁም። እኔ ፈርቼ ብሸሽ ኖሮ ሁሉም በችግር ውስጥ ይገኙ ነበር። በጭራሽ አልፈራሁም። ቀደም ሲል ስለተገደሉት የናይፒታው ልጃገረድ እና ስለ ማንዳላይ ሴት ልጅ እያሰብኩ ነበር። ከገጠር ስለመጡትና ስለ ወደቁትን ነፍሳት ሁሉ እያሰብኩ ነበር። በሚትኪና ሰዎች ላይ ክፉ ነገር እንዳይመጣባቸው ተጨንቄ ነበር።

ወደ ባኒያን ዛፍ ሲደርሱ እኔ [ፖሊሶቹን/ባለሥልጣናቱን]እየጠራኋቸውና እየነገርኳቸው ነበር: – ‘እባካችሁ እኔን ግደሉኝ። ሰዎች ሲገደሉ ማየት አልፈልግም።” ጮክ ብዬ እያለቅስኩ ስል እነርሱ ለጥቂት ጊዜ ቆሙ።

አንደኛው ወደ እኔ መጥቶ “እማማ ፣ ብዙ አይጨነቁ ፣ እኛ በእነሱ ላይ አንተኩስባቸውም” አለኝ ።

እኔ ግን እንዲህ በማለት ነግርኩት፤ “እነሱም በሌሎች መሳሪያዎች ሊገደሉ ይችላሉ። በእነሱ ላይ አይተኩሱ። እነሱ እኮ ዝም ብለው ተቃዋሚዎች ናቸው።”

በብዙ ቦታዎች እንዳየሁት ሰዎችን በጥይት እንደገደሉ በአእምሮዬ ውስጥ ስላለ በእነሱ ላይ አይተኩሱም ብዬ አላመንኩም ነበር። [አንዱን ተቃዋሚ] ወደ ክሊኒኩ አምጥቼ ህክምና ሰጠሁት። ፖሊሶቹ ሌላውን ተቃዋሚ እንደወደቀ ሊይዙት እንደተቃረቡ ፖሊሶቹንን አቁሜ ግብግቡን እንዳይቀጥሉ ጠየቅኳቸው። ለዚያም ነው ፖሊሱ ያላሰረው፤ ያለበለዚያ እነሱ ይይዙትና ከዚያም በጎትተቱ ነበር።

በሕዝቡ ላይ እየደረሰ ያለውን ነገር እንዳያችሁት እነሱ[ወታደሮቹ]የሕዝብ ጠባቂዎች እንዳልሆኑ ሆኖ ይሰማኛል። ሰዎች ደህና ሁኔታ አይደለም ያሉት እናም ጭካኔ የተሞላበት እስራት በሌሊት ይካሄዳል። የአንዲት ወጣት እናት ከሞተ አካል አጠገብ ስታለቅስ የሚያሳየውን ቪዲዮ ሳይ በጣም አዘንኩ። እኔ ደግሞ አምቡላንስ ሲወድም እና ባለሞያዎች በጠመንጃ ሲደበደቡም አይቻለሁ። እነሱ እኛን መጠበቅ ነበረባቸው፤ ግን ህዝባችን እራሱን መከላከል አለበት። በጎ አይደለም። እነሱ (የደህንነት ኃይሎች) የማይወዷቸውን ይይዟቸዋል፣ ይደበድቧቸዋል፣ ይገድሏቸዋል። የማያንማር ሕዝብን የሚከላከል ማንም የለም። ሰዎች እራሳቸውን መከላከል እና እርስ በእርስ መረዳዳት አለባቸው።”

መነኩሴ‘አን ሮዛ ኑ ታውንግ‘ ለዓለም፤ በተለይ ለኢትዮጵያ እውነተኛ እና ታማኝ ምስክር ለመሆን ህይወታቸውን ለመስጠት የተዘጋጁ ጀግና የክርስቶስ ልጅ ናቸው። ሃይማኖታዊ ቅድስና ከፖለቲካ ርዕዮተ ዓለም ጋር ግራ አላጋባቸውም። በሚቀጥሉት መቶ ዘመናት በቤተ መቅደሳቸው ዙሪያ ስለሚያበሩት ሻማዎች እያሰቡም አልነበረም፣ ጸሎት በማድረግና በቅዳሴ ሥርዓት ላይ በመገኘት ብቻ ያለተግባር ፍትህ እንደማይገኝ፣ በዓይናቸው ለማየት በቅተው ነበር፣ መላ ሰውነታቸው በሰው ልጅ ስቃይ ፣ በሰው ልጅ ርህራሄ እና በሰው ልጅ ነፃነት ተውጧልና። አንድ ሰው ከእግዚአብሔር አምላኩ ጎን ነፍሱን ለአባቱና ለእናቱ፣ ለወንድሞቹና ለእህቶቹ፣ ለሚስቱና ለባሏ፣ ለልጆቹና ለጎረቤቶቹ፣ ለጓደኞቹና ለወገኖቹ ከሚሰጠው ፍቅር የበለጠ ፍቅር ሊኖር አይችልም።

እኝህ ድንቅ የምያንማር መነኩሴ ለጊዜያዊ ስልጣን፣ ተወዳጅ ለመሆን ወይም ተፅዕኖ ለመፍጠር ፍላጎት የላቸውም ፣ እማማ አን ሮዛ የራሳቸውን ስጋዊ አካል እንኳን ለማዳን አልፈሩም፣ ፍላጎትም አልነበራቸውም። የተለየ ኃይል እና ተጽዕኖ ያለው ተለዋጭ ታሪክን በመናገር ራሱን በመስቀል ላይ ለሞት አሳልፎ የሰጠውን ኢየሱስ ክርስቶስን ይህ ቅዱስ የሆነ የመነኩሴዋ ተግባር በከፊል ያሳየናል። የአዲስ ኪዳን ትምህርት ለዓለም ምስክር መሆኑን ያስተምረናል። አዎ! በሰይፍ የሚኖሩ በሰይፍ ይወድቃሉ!
