As young black leaders gathered Friday in the White House for the Young Black Leadership Summit, one voice split the room asking for a moment to pray for President Donald Trump.

Turning Point USA’s Benny Johnson shared video of what happened when the president brought the young woman to the podium. Mahalet, once an abandoned, impoverished orphan from Ethiopia, earned smiles and cheers from the president and the gathered crowd.

“I’m not really good with prayers or anything like that but I just want to say thank you, Mr. President, and I know we have a political warfare right now, but I strongly believe that it is a spiritual one as well,” Mahalet said to cheers from the crowd.

“And I want to make sure that I mean, I know that Americans are gonna wake up and we’re gonna get back to looking to God instead of social media and we’re gonna look back to Jesus because Jesus saves and this country was founded upon the Constitution, was built on Godly principles and we’re gonna fight for that,” she said. “And I just want to encourage you guys to pray every day for this nation.”

“Dear God, I’m not really good at this,” Mahalet laughed. “But I just want to say thank you so much for giving us this opportunity to be in the White House. Thank you for giving us a great leader like Trump, Mr. Donald Trump, and I would like to thank you for waking up our nation.”

She continued, asking God for protection both for the nation and for the president, adding, “God, I believe that you gave him to us and I believe that he’s gonna accomplish so much more. I know you have more for us.”

“Jesus I ask you to protect us and walk with us and in Jesus’ name the enemy tries to attack us every single day,” Mahalet concluded. “He tries to discourage us but he has no room. He has no room, no more, and that’s all I have to say.”

Ethiopia Bans Street Begging By Syrians In Growing Numbers

Ethiopia is banning street begging by Syrian nationals who have startled people by showing up in growing numbers in recent months in major cities around hotels and mosques.

“We are now coordinating our security services to effectively ban Syrian citizens from begging. We have tolerated them for some time but we have now decided to ban the illegal practice. … They are becoming a burden,” the deputy head of Ethiopia’s immigration office told The Associated Press on Friday.

Some 560 Syrians entered between mid-August and mid-December and the majority leave when their tourist visas expire, said the deputy, Yemane Gebremeskel. While street begging is not illegal in Ethiopia – there is a large presence of children – the act of entering the country as a tourist and begging is, he said.

Nearly 120 other Syrians have applied for refugee status in the East African nation that hosts one of the world’s largest refugee populations, and they were provided with support equaling around $73.

“We gave them what we could afford but they are still begging,” Yemane said.

Many Ethiopians were baffled when the Syrians began appearing on the streets of the capital, Addis Ababa, displaying signs written in the local Amharic language appealing for help.

One Syrian told the AP his family fled the war at home and has moved from place to place as life in other countries became too expensive.

Khalid Youssef said he, his wife and three children first sought refuge in Lebanon then a year ago moved to Sudan, which neighbors Ethiopia, with the help of the United Nations. They finally moved to Ethiopia.

“We don’t have any money,” he said. “Besides, there was no work in Sudan even though people were generous. Here, people are even more generous and they help us a lot.”

To survive, he said, the family asks for charity during the day. “At night we go to sleep at the mosque.”

The U.N. refugee agency told the AP in December it was supporting Ethiopia’s government in caring for close to 80 “Syrian refugees and asylum seekers” whom it said started arriving in the country in 2014.

After several interviews the Syrians on the streets, the agency “was able to establish that these were new arrivals,” it said. Over the previous month three Syrian families composed of 20 people had applied for asylum, it added.

Ethiopia currently hosts 900,000 refugees mainly from neighboring Somalia, South Sudan, Eritrea and Sudan. Earlier this month the U.N. praised the government for a new law that will allow refugees to obtain work permits, go to primary schools, open bank accounts and more.

Ethiopia’s refugee law is now “one of the most progressive refugee policies in Africa,” the agency said.

እርግጥ ነው የአዲስ አበባ ጎዳናዎች ነዳያን አያጣቸውም። ሶሪያውያንን ማየት ግን እንግዳ ነው።

በተረጂነት እምብዛም የማይታወቁ አረቦች በየጥጋጥጉ ምጽዋት ሲጠይቁ ማየት ለበርካታ አዲስ አበቤ ጥያቄ ቢያጭርበት አይደንቅም። የሶሪያውያን ነገር መነጋገሪያ የኾነውም ለዚሁ ይመስላል።

በዚህ ዘመን ከዕልቂቶች ሁሉ የከፋው እልቂት የደረሰው በሶሪያ ምድር ነው። ግማሽ ሚሊዮን ሕዝቧ በእርስ በርስ ጦርነት አልቋል። ከጠቅላላው የሶሪያ ሕዝብ ገሚሱ ተፈናቅሏል።

እንዴት ኢትዮጵያን መረጡ?

ኢትዮጵያ እንግዳ ተቀባይ አገር ናት ሲባል በመንግሥት ደረጃም የሚገለጽ፣ በአሐዝም የሚደገፍ ሐቅ ነው። ምንም እንኳ በድህነት ተርታ ያለች ቢሆንም ኢትዮጵያ በዓለም በሚሊዮን የሚቆጠሩ ስደተኞችን በማስጠለል ከቀዳሚ አገራት ተርታ ትመደባለች።

አያሌ ሶማሊያውያን፣ ኤርትራውያንና ደቡብ ሱዳናውያን በመጠለያ ጣቢያዎችና በዋና ዋና ከተሞች ጭምር ይገኛሉ።

ሶሪያዊያኑ ግን የቅርብ ጊዜ ክስተቶች ናቸው።

ስምንት ዓመታትን ካስቆጠረው የሶሪያ ጦርነት የሸሹ ስምንት ሚሊዮን ዜጎች በጎረቤት አገራትና በአውሮፓ ተጠልለዋል። ጥቂቶች ወደ አፍሪካ አቅንተዋል።

ግብጽ ከአፍሪካ አገራት በርካታ የሶሪያ ስደተኞች የሚገኙባት ናት። ከግብጽ ሌላ ሊቢያ፣ አልጄሪያና ሱዳን ወደ 33ሺህ የሚጠጉ ስደተኞችን ያስተናግዳሉ።

ከቅርብ ጊዜ ወዲህ ሰሜን አፍሪካ የሚገኙት የሶሪያ ስደተኞች በአየርም በምድርም አቆራርጠው ወደ ምሥራቅ አፍሪካ ማማተር ጀምረዋል። ከእነዚህ መሐልም የተወሰኑት ኢትዮጵያን መርጠዋል።

“የምንማጸነው እንደትረዱን ነው“

አናስ መሐማት ወደ ኢትዮጵያ የመጣው ከአንድ ወር በፊት ነው። ቤተሰቡን ይዞ ከንጋት እስከ ምሽት ለምጽዋት እጁን ይዘረጋል፤ በአዲስ አበባ ጎዳና።

ከአረብኛ ሌላ አይናገርም። በአንድ እጁ ሮጦ ያልጠገበ ልጅ ይዞ በሌላ እጁ በነጭ ወረቀት ላይ በአማርኛ የተጻፈለትን የድረሱልኝ ጥሪ ከፍ አድርጎ ለወጪ ወራጁ ያሳያል። አትላስ አካባቢ።

ያነገበው ጽሑፍ፣ “እኛ ወንድሞቻችሁ ከሶሪያ ተሰደን የመጣን ሲሆን አሁን በችግር ላይ ስለሆንንን ያላችሁን እንድትረዱን በፈጣሪ ስም እንለምናችኋለን። አላህ ይስጥልን” የሚል ነው።

አናስ አትላስ አካባቢ በልመና ላይ ሳለ የቢቢሲ የአዲስ አበባ ወኪል አግኝቶት ነበር።

“…በሕይወት ለመቆየት እየታገልን ነው። መንገድ ላይ፣ ትራፊክ መብራት አካባቢ እና በየመስጊዶች እንለምናለን። ባንለምን ደስ ይለን ነበር። ኾኖም በሕይወት ለመቆየት ሌላ አማራጭ የለንም። ፈጣሪ ይርዳን….” ብሎታል።

“ሕሊናዬ ሊያርፍ አልቻለም“

ያለፉት ጥቂት ወራት በርከት ያሉ ሶሪያዊያን በኢትዮጵያ ጥገኝነት እየጠየቁ ነው። ስደተኞቹ የነበራቸውን ጥሪት ኢትዮጵያ ለመድረስ በጉዞ ወጪዎች አሟጠውታል።

በቁጥር ምን ያህል ሶሪያዊያን ወደ ኢትዮጵያ ገብተዋል የሚለው በይፋ ባይታወቅም መንግሥት ግን የስደተኞች ምዝገባ እያካሄደ እንደሆነ ይገልጻል።

ከቅርብ ጊዜ ወዲህ በአዲስ አበባ በየጎዳናው ጥጋጥግ የሚተኙ በርካታ ሶሪያዊያን እየተታዩ ነው። በጎ ፈቃደኞች አይተው ማለፍ አልቻሉም፤ አይሻ መሐመድ ከነዚህ አንዷ ናት።

“የሚያሳዝኑ ሕዝቦች ናቸው። እዚህ ከደረሱ ጀምሮ እያገዝናቸው ነው። የምንችለውን ሁሉ እየለገስን ነው። ብርድልብስ፣ ምግብ፣ አልባሳት። ሰዎችም በተቻላቸው መጠን እንዲረዷቸው እየጠየቅን ነው። ትንንሽ ልጆችን ይዘዋል። በዚያ ላይ ቋንቋ አይችሉም።“

የአዲስ አበባ ነዋሪ የኾነው ቢኒያም ታምሩ በበኩሉ ከሁሉም በላይ ሕጻናትን ይዘው የሚንከራተቱ ሶሪያዊ እናቶች ስሜቱን የሚረብሹት ይመስላል።

“ሴቶችና ሕጻናት በዚህ መልኩ ሲንገላቱ ሕሊናዬ እያየ ዝም ሊል አልቻለም። ያለኝን ሁሉ ለማካፈል አልሳሳም። ምንም ትንሽ ቢሆን። 20 ብር ካለኝ 10 ብሩን እሰጣቸዋለሁ።“

ሩሲያና የአሳድ መንግሥት ግጭቶች ስለረገቡ ስደተኞች ወደ አገራቸው እንዲመለሱ እየጠየቁ ነው። ነገር ግን ከ5 ሚሊዮን የሚልቁት ስደተኞች ለመመለስ እያመነቱ ነው። በአገሪቱ ዘላቂ ሰላም ሳይሰፍን መመለሱ ስጋት ጥሎባቸው በሰው አገር ይንከራተታሉ።

“መቼስ ምን ይደረጋል። እንደዚህ አልነበርንም። አሁን ያለንበት እውነታ ግን ይኸው ነው። ኢትዮጵያዊያን የሚቻላቸውን እንዲያደርጉልን ነው የምንማጸነው” ይላል አናስ።

ለአናስና ቤተሰቡም ሶሪያ የምትባለው እናት አገራቸው የሩቅ ትዝታ ሆናባቸዋለች።

German Teen Murdered by Asylum Seeker After She Refused to Convert to Islam

A German teenager was found dead this week and her Afghan failed asylum seeker boyfriend has been arrested on suspicion of killing her; her friends claim he was angry she would not convert to Islam.

Ahmad G., 18, was arrested this week after police suspect he may have stabbed 17-year-old Mireille B. who was murdered on Monday night in the German town of Flensburg, Bild reports.

According to a friend of the victim’s family, Ahmad G. had been angry with her over her refusal to convert to Islam.

“Ahmad was a jealous rooster who always wanted to control her. They had been an item since January 2016 but there were constant rows. He insisted that she convert to Islam and always wear a headscarf. She wasn’t sure. Whenever she went scarfless there was trouble,” they said.

A police spokesman described the events of the murder saying: “Police and rescue workers were called into an apartment around 6:35 pm on Monday. There was a severely injured 17-year-old with multiple stab wounds.”

A neighbor described the pair as constantly arguing with each other, while another described the victim as a “cheerful, open-minded girl” but admitted he had only seen the girl once, wearing a headscarf and acting in a shy and cautious manner.

The murder is just the latest in a series where women and girls who have been murdered by migrants in Germany since the height of the migrant crisis in 2015.

The most notorious case involved the rape and murder of German student Maria Ladenburger in Freiburg in 2016 by Afghan asylum seeker Hussein Khavari. While Khavari had initially told authorities in Germany that he was underage, it was soon revealed that he was an adult and his father claimed he was over 30.

In the town of Kandel last year, a 15-year-old German girl named Mia was stabbed to death in a local drug store by her Afghan asylum seeker boyfriend Abdul D. Again, rumours surfaced that the alleged murderer was not underage as he claimed and a recent medical report confirmed he is likely an adult.

The murders, along with the many victims of asylum seeker perpetrated rape attacks and terror attacks, have led to the formation of the #120dB movement, named after the sound intensity of rape alarms.

The leaders of the movement gained international attention for their launch video and have since led a protest at the Berlinale film festival in Berlin.
