Many African countries have refused to take sides in the European conflict, with several abstaining from votes at the United Nations General Assembly condemning Russia’s invasion. Ethiopia is one of them.
Speaking in Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital, on Wednesday, Kuleba said Ukraine was “very upset that some African countries chose to abstain” and called them to lend Ukraine diplomatic support “in the face of Russian aggression.”

📞 Amid growing concerns of security risks to members of Congress, more than 50 senators have been issued satellite phones for emergency communication, people familiar with the measures told CBS News.
In testimony before the Senate Appropriations Committee last month, Senate Sergeant at Arms Karen Gibson said satellite communication is being deployed “to ensure a redundant and secure means of communication during a disruptive event.”
Gibson said the phones are a security backstop in the case of an emergency that “takes out communications” in part of America. Federal funding will pay for the satellite airtime needed to utilize the phone devices.
💭 The Biden Administration now is allowing Western allies to provide Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets — including American-made ones. But just over one year ago, Joe Biden warned that taking similar steps would enter America into World War 3.
Biden said, F16s means WW3, he actually said it, problem is that the west cannot announce a war in Ukraine, therefore US / NATO are now striking Russian territory.
Ukraine has a bunch of F16 pilots just sitting around waiting on US to send them planes? Add to that the ground crews, parts inventory, maintenance facilities, and computer systems needed to support the F16s.
NATO pilots disguising as Ukrainians would be my guess. This will not end well.
💭 Russia Threatens To Shoot Down US Fighter Jets
Russia has issued a warning that it will shoot down US F-16 fighter jets if they enter Ukrainian airspace.
The Russian Ministry of Defense conveyed the message, stating that any unauthorized incursion into Ukrainian airspace by foreign military aircraft would be seen as a violation of Russia’s borders.
They accused the United States of attempting to provoke conflict and made it clear that any incident involving US jets would be the sole responsibility of the U.S.
Russia also asserted its capability to detect and neutralize any threats to its airspace.
The situation in Ukraine remains highly tense, and Russia’s warning raises the stakes, adding to the already heightened tensions in the region.
This coupled with Russia’s takeover of Bakhmut, only adds a sense of uncertainty as to the outcome of this war.
I feel the more time passes, the less people seem to pay attention to one of the world’s most dangerous wars since WW2.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, who met with Pope Francis last week, presented the pontiff with gifts that are offensive to Orthodox Christian believers, the il Fatto Quotidiano newspaper wrote.
The controversial item is an icon of Virgin Mary holding the Child Jesus, who is depicted only as a black outline.
“It was supposed to symbolize the ‘loss’ of Ukrainian children in the conflict, but to the head of the Roman Catholic Church, the ‘loss’ of Child Jesus means the loss of the Messiah, the loss of the reason to exist for the institute of the church itself,” the paper quoted a prominent journalist, historian and former senator Raniero La Valle as saying.
In his opinion, the picture in fact symbolizes “erasing Christ from the cross and the denial of his resurrection.”
Another present by Zelensky was the painting of Madonna, made on a fragment of a bulletproof vest, against the bloody red background with stripes in colors of the Ukrainian flag.
In contrast, Pope Francis gave President Zelensky a bronze sculpture representing an olive branch, a symbol of peace. He also gifted him with several documents devoted to peace and fraternity.

☪ The Chios Massacre : The Worst Atrocity Committed by the Ottoman Turks
The Chios massacre of 1822 was perhaps the worst atrocity committed by the Ottomans against Greeks during the Greek War of Independence.
Approximately three-quarters of the population of 120,000 were killed, enslaved, or died of disease after thousands of Turkish troops landed on the eastern Aegean island to end a rebellion against Ottoman rule.
One of history’s most tragic and comprehensive acts of genocide takes place on the island of Chios in 1822. The Greek War of Independence begins in 1821. But the Orthodox population of peaceful and prosperous Chios, lying just off the coast of Turkey, finds itself caught between the competing nationalist ambitions of the old Turkish Ottoman Empire and the fledgling new state of Greece. A year later, during the Massacres around 20,000 islanders are hanged, butchered, starved or tortured to death. Untold thousands more are raped, deported and enslaved. The Greek word katastrofi – also meaning ‘destruction’ and ‘ruin’ – is usually used to describe these events.
The island itself is devastated In addition to setting fires, the troops were ordered to kill all infants under three years old, all males 12 years and older, and all females 40 and older except those willing to convert to Islam.
Those too old or too young to run for cover in the hills are murdered in their homes while about 15,000 Turkish and Samian troops are killed in clashes. Corpses fill the streets and clog the harbor. When they can find no more Christians to kill, any Christian buildings, farms, churches or monasteries are burnt or destroyed.
However, young women, boys and girls are taken alive for their value as slaves and shipped to the mainland.
Around 2,000 women, children and priests seek sanctuary in the Byzantine Nea Moni monastery in the mountains – founded by Constantine Monamacus in 1042-1048. Eventually the doors to Nea Moni burst open and all inside are slaughtered or burnt alive when the building is set on fire – many of their skulls and bones being displayed to this day at the monastery.
Rather than fall into the hands of the Turks, many women commit mass suicide by jumping from the cliffs with infants in their arms.
Tens of thousands of survivors dispersed throughout Europe to become part of what would become known as the Chian Diaspora.
A horrified Europe responds to the atrocity with shock
During the year 1822, European capitals were inundated with reports about a massacre of the Christian population of Chios. The island, a few kilometres from the mainland of Asia Minor in the eastern Aegean, and the supposed birthplace of the ancient poet Homer, had become the scene of one of the bloodiest episodes of the Greek War of Independence. At the time, Greece belonged to the Ottoman Empire.
The massacre shocked Europe, and protesters highlighted the atrocity with many famous artists dedicating works to this heinous event.
One of the greatest works of the great French painter Eugene Delacroix was a depiction of the Massacre of Chios, the purpose of which was to raise awareness throughout Europe of the horrors and atrocities committed by the Ottomans on the island. Furthermore, Victor Hugo’s poem about the massacre also highlights the brutality suffered at the hands of the Ottomans.

Russian space agency boss says that ‘no proof’ US ever landed on the Moon
Russia’s Roscosmos space agency’s former boss Dmitry Rogozin, believes that the US Apollo 11 mission was faked and that American astronauts never landed on the Moon. He further questions why, all of a sudden, did the US stop sending manned missions to the Moon.
Dmitry Rogozin, the former head of Russia’s Roscosmos space agency, has ruffled some feathers among global astronomy circles. Rogozin has voiced his scepticism on the narrative of whether the US Apollo 11 mission ever landed on the Moon in 1969, claiming that he has yet to see sufficient proof.
In a post on his Telegram channel on Sunday, Rogozin said he began his personal quest for the truth “about ten years ago” when he was still working in the Russian government, and that he became sceptical about whether the Americans had actually set foot on the Moon when he saw how exhausted Soviet cosmonauts looked upon returning from their flights, compared to how seemingly unaffected the Apollo 11 crew appeared.
Rogozin stated that at the time, he addressed requests for evidence to Roscosmos. All he got in return was a book with Soviet Cosmonaut Aleksey Leonov’s story of how he met the American astronauts and learned they had travelled to the Moon.
When he was named head of Roscosmos in 2018, the former official said that he maintained his work. However, no proof was offered to Rogozin, according to him. Instead, he was chastised by numerous anonymous academics for damaging the “sacred cooperation with NASA,” as he claimed.
The former Roscosmos boss also claimed to have “received an angry phone call from a top-ranking official” accusing him of complicated foreign ties.
Rogozin finished by remarking that despite enormous technological advances since the late 1960s, the US was able to carry off the feat but is now unable to do so.
He also claims to have discovered that Washington has “its people in [the Russian] establishment.”
The Apollo 11 mission was the first manned journey to the Moon, with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin being the first people to walk on the lunar surface.
The unmanned Soviet Luna 2 programme, which paved the way for Moon exploration, came before the trip.
President Vladimir Putin committed in April to restart Russia’s lunar programme.
