Smartphones Destroyed a Generation?

Posted by addisethiopia on September 23, 2017

More comfortable online than out partying, post-Millennials are safer, physically, than adolescents have ever been. But they’re on the brink of a mental-health crisis.

ne day last summer, around noon, I called Athena, a 13-year-old who lives in Houston, Texas. She answered her phone—she’s had an iPhone since she was 11—sounding as if she’d just woken up. We chatted about her favorite songs and TV shows, and I asked her what she likes to do with her friends. “We go to the mall,” she said. “Do your parents drop you off?,” I asked, recalling my own middle-school days, in the 1980s, when I’d enjoy a few parent-free hours shopping with my friends. “No—I go with my family,” she replied. “We’ll go with my mom and brothers and walk a little behind them. I just have to tell my mom where we’re going. I have to check in every hour or every 30 minutes.”

Those mall trips are infrequent—about once a month. More often, Athena and her friends spend time together on their phones, unchaperoned. Unlike the teens of my generation, who might have spent an evening tying up the family landline with gossip, they talk on Snapchat, the smartphone app that allows users to send pictures and videos that quickly disappear. They make sure to keep up their Snapstreaks, which show how many days in a row they have Snapchatted with each other. Sometimes they save screenshots of particularly ridiculous pictures of friends. “It’s good blackmail,” Athena said. (Because she’s a minor, I’m not using her real name.) She told me she’d spent most of the summer hanging out alone in her room with her phone. That’s just the way her generation is, she said. “We didn’t have a choice to know any life without iPads or iPhones. I think we like our phones more than we like actual people.”

I’ve been researching generational differences for 25 years, starting when I was a 22-year-old doctoral student in psychology. Typically, the characteristics that come to define a generation appear gradually, and along a continuum. Beliefs and behaviors that were already rising simply continue to do so. Millennials, for instance, are a highly individualistic generation, but individualism had been increasing since the Baby Boomers turned on, tuned in, and dropped out. I had grown accustomed to line graphs of trends that looked like modest hills and valleys. Then I began studying Athena’s generation.

Around 2012, I noticed abrupt shifts in teen behaviors and emotional states. The gentle slopes of the line graphs became steep mountains and sheer cliffs, and many of the distinctive characteristics of the Millennial generation began to disappear. In all my analyses of generational data—some reaching back to the 1930s—I had never seen anything like it.

Model, 20, Exposes The Seedy World Of Prostitution In The Fashion Industry

Posted by addisethiopia on August 29, 2017

After An Agent Claims Household Names Are Paid Up To $2MILLION To Sleep With Rich Clients And Further Their Careers

EXCLUSIVE: Jazz Egger, 20 was offered £2,000 for ‘intimacy’ with a client

  • The London-based model was told: ‘that is how the fashion industry works’
  • Agent claimed that top supermodels are paid up to $2million for sex with men
  • Even sent screen shots of messages from models who said they ‘enjoyed it’

  • A young model has claimed prostitution is rife within the fashion industry after she was offered cash to sleep with wealthy men.

London-based model Jazz Egger, who recently turned 20, makes the extraordinary claim that ‘big agencies’ and ‘established models’ are involved in seedy underground dealings, with young women paid up to $2million (£1.54million) to spend the night with male clients.

Shockingly, Jazz claims she was even told that two young supermodels who have become household names have ‘spent time’ with men for money in order to get ahead in their career.

Austrian-born Jazz said she was first propositioned last summer after meeting an agent at an exclusive London club, who offered her an ‘image modelling job’ which involved a Greek yacht trip with three ‘millionaires’.

Jazz, who has 35,000 Instagram followers, also claims she has been told that one of the most established modeling agencies in the world was a ‘partner client’ of the company that had approached her for sex work.

She declined, but soon afterwards she was contacted by a second man who invited her to a private dinner with a ‘famous actor’ at a popular celebrity haunt – and advised that she would need to be comfortable with the ‘natural intimacy’ that followed.

When the then teen replied that she was ‘a model and not an escort’, she alleges the man – known only as George – shot back: ‘It’s the most normal thing in the industry, everyone does it.’

Shockingly, the agent claimed that two well-known fashion models have accepted vast sums of cash in return for ‘spending time’ with his clients.

He told her: ‘[The models] realise the value of money and how much of a difference it can make. And everyone enjoys having sex especially with good-looking guys. What is the shame? Society creates double standards that make women feel guilty.’

He added: ‘That is how the fashion industry works’ and even claimed that ‘most models get to where they were through something like this’.

George even told Jazz that one of the most established modeling agencies in the world was a ‘partner client’ of the company that had approached her for sex work.

He said: ‘All of these modelling agencies are run by hedge fund managers wanting to meet girls.’

‘This can’t be okay’

Jazz told MailOnline: ‘I would never sell my body in such a matter. I couldn’t combine it with my morals really.

‘I still respect those who do accept such offers. What made his offer highly questionable to me is that he asked me to keep quiet about it. This can’t be okay.

‘[George] reacted by spamming me with messages, in an attempt to convince me to accept his offer. It seemed like he was very experienced in that kind of conversation. He sent me screenshots of models who he allegedly worked with.’

She added: ‘I know some models that have done escort work and experienced unwanted sexual advances.

‘When I shared the article, many of my model colleagues messaged me, telling me about their experiences. It was sad to see that it’s such a common and usual thing.

R.I.P Glen Campbell

Posted by addisethiopia on August 9, 2017

I specially enjoy listening to his beautiful music in Autumn.

Glen Campbell, Superstar Entertainer of 1960s and ’70s, Dead at 81

Glen Campbell, the grinning, high-pitched entertainer who had such hits as “Rhinestone Cowboy” and spanned country, pop, television and movies, has died. He was 81.

Campbell’s publicist Sandy Brokaw says the singer died Tuesday morning in Nashville. No cause was immediately given. Campbell announced in June 2011 that he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease and that it was in its early stages at that time.

Campbell was one of the biggest stars of the late 1960s and 1970s. He sold more than 45 million records, had 12 gold albums and 75 chart hits. He co-starred with John Wayne in the 1969 movie “True Grit” and had a weekly audience of some 50 million people for the “Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour” on CBS from 1969 to 1972.

Glen Campbell, in Memoriam

The inimitable singer Glen Campbell passed away yesterday after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.  He was diagnosed in late 2010, but with the tireless care of his wife Kim, he continued to perform and even filmed a fifteen-month farewell tour that followed the pernicious advance of the disease.  As with many sufferers of Alzheimer’s, his knowledge and facility with music lasted longer than his memories of people, places, or things.  Even after the lyrics to the songs he had sung thousands of times were lost to him, he could still play them.  He could still read the lyrics on a teleprompter.  The man was perhaps the finest guitarist of his time, a fact unknown to his millions of fans who loved his voice and songs.

Before Campbell became a star in his own right, he had sung and played guitar on the records of countless other groups and soloists the 1960s and ’70s: The Beach Boys, Sagittarius, Ricky Nelson, Bobby Darin, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, etc.  It is a long list of greats.  What many people do not know is that he did not read music but had an auditory eidetic memory.  He would and could hear a song once and know every word, note, and chord.  In studio sessions, when every other musician was reading the music for the first time, he was listening.  After one pass, he would know the song and what he was to do with it.  His vocal range went from a Russian bass C to a Pavarotti D in a natural voice, no falsetto.  He was a very rare talent.

His first real hit was “Gentle on My Mind” in 1967.  He began performing around Los Angeles with a four-man country band.  After that came a long string of hits, many of them written by Jimmy Webb.  Many of them remain standards to this day.  Beginning in 1969, he toured the country and later the world, now with full orchestras.  From 1969 to 1972, he starred in his own television variety program, The Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour.  Guests on the show ranged from Ray Charles to Tony Bennett.  He first performed at Carnegie Hall in March 1973.  (Buck Owens was the first country singer to perform there in 1966.)  He co-starred with John Wayne in the film True Grit, for which Wayne won an Academy Award.  He worked several times a year in Las Vegas to sellout crowds and continued to perform concerts up until the Alzheimer’s forced him to stop.

Much of today’s music is without melody or coherent lyrics.  Young people seem not to know the meaning of the word “melody.”  Campbell’s songs were all melodious.  His voice and his brilliance on the guitar were unparalleled.  Roy Clark, a gifted guitarist in his own right, once said when a fan said, “You’re the best guitarist…,” Clark replied, “No, that would be Glen Campbell.”  They worked together often; Clark knew what he was talking about.  For those who worked with him and for him, working with lesser musicians would always be something of a chore by comparison.

Glen will be missed, but his music will live on and may yet be discovered by the youth of a new generation, who find they like memorable melodies and songs that are stories. Rest in Peace, Glen Campbell.

G20 ’17: Saudi King Rented Out the Entirety Of a Four Seasons Hotel – and Camels will be Flown in to Supply the Delegation with Fresh Camel’s Milk

Posted by addisethiopia on July 5, 2017

My Note: In the mean time, the king of Saudi Barbaria canceled G20 summit trip to Hamburg due to Gulf crisis. On the other note, according to Focus, researchers fear big epidemic because Mers ((MERS-CoV / SARS) infections flicker again. When such a close relationship with camels occurs a Mers infection can be fatal. The virus could trigger a pandemic. Currently, new cases from Saudi Arabia are known. Now, will they allow the Saudis to bring their camels to Hamburg? Kim Jong-un will fly faster than his rockets if all the G20 leaders get infected there. Let’s remember key parts of the September 11 terrorist plot took shape in the beautiful city of Hamburg – and most of the hijackers were from Saudi Arabia.

G20: Fun Things To Know About Capitalism’s Big Bash In Hamburg

Saudi Understatement

The title for the most demure delegation will go, as always, to Saudi Arabia. The Saudis have rented out the entirety of Hamburg’s swanky Four Seasons hotel – Trump tried to book himself in and got refused – and that’s only 160 rooms of the 400 in total the delegation will occupy. A hotel ballroom has been repurposed as a suitably spacious living room, and Saudi King Salman ibn Abd al-Aziz will be bringing his own throne and a golden escalator with which to disembark his airplane.

There are also reports that camels will be flown in to supply the delegation with fresh camel’s milk, but Hamburg police say they know nothing about this and the Saudi Arabian embassy denied it. But even without the dromedaries, the Saudis are guaranteed to make a oil-rig-sized splash.

King Salman will, of course, be bringing with him a battery of personal chefs, and the other heads of state might want to consider doing the same. The German Foreign Ministry says that the catering for the summit will particularly emphasize “regional specialties.” Northern Germany, however, isn’t known for its cuisine, with good reason. Local favorites include smoked eel, “pears, beans and bacon,” and “Labskaus,” corned-beef hash with pickled herring and red beets and topped with a fried egg. What isn’t better with a fried egg on top?

The good news for those world leaders who decide they’d rather go out to eat after all, is that G20 participants will be given free passes to use Hamburg’s subway and bus system. So look out for lots of heads of state on public transport.

Brad Pitt: ‘Elite Hollywood Pedophiles Control America’

Posted by addisethiopia on June 29, 2017

Movie star speaks out against pedophilia rings…

Following the recent spate of pedophile arrests in California, movie star Brad Pitt has revealed the true depths of Hollywood pedophilia in a shocking exposé.As a 30-year seasoned veteran in the movie business, Pitt speaks about his experiences after witnessing the dark side of the entertainment industry first hand.Mr. Pitt describes how the whole TV and film industry is run around a culture of grooming children for child trafficking networks that reach across the United States and beyond, into the upper echelons of the political spectrum and societal hierarchy:

“You think Hollywood is about making movies? That’s just a byproduct: It’s about money, and more importantly, power and control.”

“The people who run Hollywood, also run America, and most of the world, and they don’t care about movies.”

“You’ve heard of the Illuminati right? The secret societies, the politicians, the bankers and the media – they’re the ones running these pedophile rings, and they’re the ones that run the world, and it all goes back to Hollywood.”

“Kids wanna be in movies, or should I say; parents want their kids to be in movies, and they’ll do anything to get them famous”

Then asked why Hollywood was targetted by these Elite networks, he said;

“It’s the parents. It’s the American dream to be famous and the parents will do anything to get them there.””Have you ever met the mom of a child actor? They’re nuts.”

“It’s easy pickings, and it’s not just movies, it’s TV, music… it’s showbiz.”

“The parents are basically selling their kids souls for fame.”

Mr. Pitt goes on to expose the motivation behind the Elite child trafficking and how the children are given roles to influence other children to push agenda. He describes how children are used as political currency whilst the parents turn a blind eye in the hope their offspring will be in the next box office smash:

“One of these [Elites] buys into a movie. A thousand kids go for the lead role, and 100 of them would probably work. Some young kid with a pushy mom turns up who will do anything to get the part.”

“The kid gets sent off to some guy that runs a TV network. The network pushes the movie, and the first guy makes loads of money when it’s a hit.”

“The TV guy will never say a bad thing about the movie because movie guy knows what TV guy did with that young kid.””The same thing happens with politicians and bankers and the rest of them,”

“It’s all backroom deals with kids as bargaining chips.”

When asked about who these “Hollywood players” are, Pitt was reluctant to name names, saying, “I’m from the land of the free and easy lawsuit”, but said he was confident these high-level child abusers will soon see justice:

“The media will never expose the truth as they’re part of it. It’s the independent media that will expose this.”

“The internet is a wonderful thing and the free flow of information is bringing it all to the surface now.”

“They’re losing their hold over the American people, and people everywhere, and they know it.”

“It’s just a matter of time before it all comes out.”

Brad Pitt has had a rocky past with secret societies, after a leaked video of his ex-wife Angelina Jolie, in which she discussed Hollywood Illuminati rituals, went viral.

Mr. Pitt responded to the video by saying he was “sickened” by the revelations.

CNN Just Got Hit by a Massive Truth Bomb–The Facts of Life Are Conservative

Posted by addisethiopia on June 28, 2017

Could be bullshit. I mean, it’s mostly bullshit right now.”

And there you have it, a CNN producer, caught on camera, frankly admitting that “fake news” isn’t some regrettable accident of the 24-hour news cycle.

Fake news” is CNN’s entire business model. (The business model of quite a few other liberal MSM outlets too, if the tantalizing hints being dropped by James O’Keefe are to be believed…)

As a fellow human being I feel sorry for the poor guy caught on camera by Project Veritasadmitting this stuff — because he’s probably going to lose his job.

But as a fellow journalist I feel about as much sympathy for him as I do for all those idiot jihadists who go out to fight in Raqqa and Mosul, lured by the cool videos of the beards, black flags, and AKs with the wailing soundtrack. Did they seriously imagine when they joined ISIS/CNN that it was all just going to be about the glamour and the hot chicks and the purity of the noble cause?

And I’m really not being high minded here. It just seems to me that one of the most basic, entry-level precepts that any serious news organization ought to be observe – and that CNN most patently never has observed, or not for a very, very long time – is this:

Facts are sacred. The truth always makes the best story. You do not make shit up.

Not only ought this stuff to be obvious, but it ought to come instinctively. Isn’t the whole attraction of joining an unglamorous, overworked, underpaid trade like journalism that you want to discover the truth about the world: all the stuff that they would rather you didn’t know?

That’s certainly been my own experience in the last few years covering the climate change/enviro-lunacy beat. I’ve never much enjoyed all the flak I’ve got from the left-wing media; still less have I liked being rejected by so many friends. But the thing that has kept me going through the hard times is that I know I’m doing good and making a real difference: there are some devious bastards out there doing terrible stuff and I’m exposing their knavery and holding them to account.

For any self-respecting journalist, I’d call that “job done.”

Sometimes I get asked by people on the other side of the argument: “What if you’re wrong?”

Here’s the first thing I’ll do if I’m wrong about climate change. I’ll write a big piece explaining why I’m wrong. Then I’ll find someone who is prepared to pay me for writing the opposite of what I do now.

This isn’t because I’m a moral paragon. It’s because I’m lazy and because I prefer the easier life: writing journalism where you have to keep making up your “facts” is much, much harder than doing what I do now, which is basically, copying out true facts and then adding a few nice adjectives and thinking up a snarky final sentence.

That said, I would have to concede that this is much easier to do if you’re politically on the right rather than on the left.

Margaret Thatcher once said “The facts of life are conservative.” And as in so many things, she was absolutely spot on. This, as you can imagine, makes life very, very difficult for people in the overcrowded left-wing media. (It’s overcrowded because so many journalists think they’re left wing).

Every day, they wake up to a world where: Israel is the only functioning democracy in the Middle East with the best human rights record; socialism is failing everywhere it is being tried from Venezuela to North Korea; the worst, most fascistic acts of violence and intolerance are being committed by left-wing people calling themselves “anti-fascists”; Islam is not a “religion of peace”; Trump is doing a great job as president — way, way better than his predecessor Obama; man-made climate change is the biggest scam in the history of science, politics, or economics…

And somehow they’ve got to construct stories demonstrating the opposite because it’s what their dumb-assed audiences want to hear.

How, if you’re running a left-wing media organization, do you reconcile this yawning gulf between the facts on the ground and your preferred political narrative?

Simple: you remake the world so that black is white and white is black; you create your own facts.

The liberal media has achieved this in myriad ways: selective reporting; emotive storytelling where opinion masquerades as news; targeting and vicious demonizing of anyone on the other side of the argument; the extensive quotation and celebration of people on the left who have successfully infiltrated schools, universities, branches of government, and other institutions both public and private, so that their skewed version of events becomes the official narrative.

But perhaps the deadliest weapon in the liberal media’s armory is this: the continual pretence it makes that its news reporting is fair, balanced, and honest; that it is constantly striving after objective truth; that only its enemies in the malign right-wing press are guilty of biased journalism.

And for years organizations like CNN — not to mention the New York Times, the Washington Post and their various UK counterparts like the Guardian and the BBC — have been getting away with this because, as someone once said (maybe Churchill, maybe Lenin, maybe Mark Twain — no one is quite sure), “a lie is half way round the world before the truth has got his boots on.”

One of the malign consequences of this deliberate and cynical lie (which comes straight out of the Leninist playbook) is that conservative media outlets have been continually forced onto the back foot, forever having to defend themselves against the charge that they serve up politicised news designed to advance their right wing agenda.

Which they do, of course. Fox News does it. Breitbart does it. The Daily Caller does it. The Sun and the Daily Mail do it. Every one of them is undoubtedly guilty of serving up journalism with a right wing slant.

The key element missing from this particular calumny is that the left wing media demonstrates at least as much bias, if not more. It just won’t admit it.

CNN Caught On Hidden Cam Saying Russian Thing Is BS

Posted by addisethiopia on June 27, 2017

Project Veritas, the undercover news group devoted to exposing how the establishment really thinks, got a CNN producer on camera to admit that the news network’s coverage of the phony Trump colluded with Russia story is a cynical effort to whip up ratings, a false narrative promoted to make money, not a bid to report the news as a first draft of history.

Hence, its wall-to-wall coverage of the Democrats’ Russia narrative, despite there being no there there. CNN has mentioned Russia 60,000 times since President Trump was inaugurated.

Here’s the thinking behind the obsession that has occupied a huge part of the Trump presidency:

Speaking on camera, CNN supervising producer John Bonifield in Atlanta told Project Veritas:

Project Veritas: The more CNN is constantly like Russia this, Russia that…

Bonifield: Because it’s ratings.

Project Veritas: Because it’s ratings?

Bonifield: Our ratings are incredible right now.

After that, he admitted there was little substance to the story – the network was just catering to what its leftist viewers wanted to hear:

Project Veritas: But honestly you think the whole thing is just like bullshit

It could be bullshit. It’s mostly bullshit right now, like we don’t have any big giant proof.

I just feel like they don’t really have it, but they want to keep digging. So I think the president is probably right to say like ‘ook you are witch-hunting me. You have no smoking gun, you have no real proof.’

And why did think it was a false narrative? Because if there were any substance to the story…

Bonifield: It would leak. If it was something really good, it would leak.

and

Bonifield: The leaks keep leaking I just refuse to believe that if they had something really good like that, it wouldn’t leak. (inaudible) I just feel like the don’t really have it but they want to keep digging.

Bonifield suggested it was ratings-driven and it came from the top. The CEO of the network, he said, told the editors:

“Good job covering the climate accords but we are done, let’s move back to Russia.”

Bonifield also admitted he was cynical and most of his colleagues were, too. Questioned about journalistic ethics, he said with withering sarcasm: “that’s adorable.”

So what can be said is going on? CNN is no longer a news network – it’s more a whip-up-the-left operation, to make leftists feel good about their crazed anti-Trump suspicions. It’s ratings-driven, not news-driven. And it’s interfering with what President Trump was put into office by voters to do.

It’s a strange beast these days. It’s not really about news. It’s about fake news.

James O Keefe in the above video:

The American people are fade up with fake news, and the mainstream media they can not trust, it’s corporate greed, market pressures, Managers without integrity, newsroom boses without courage, journalists who don’t even leave their desks.

The Very Purpose of Journalism is to Expose the World for What it Is – Not to Create False Political Narratives nor to Make Money.

The Saudi Football Team Refused To Take Part In A Minute’s Silence For London Victims

Posted by addisethiopia on June 9, 2017

The Team Said The Minute’s Silence Was Not In Keeping With Saudi Culture.

The Saudi Arabia national football team has been labeled “disgraceful” after it refused to take part in a minute’s silence for the victims of the recent terror attacks in England.

Shortly before the team’s World Cup qualifier match against Australia on Thursday evening at the Adelaide Oval, the stadium announcer called for a minute’s silence. The Australian national team linked arms at the halfway line, only for the Saudis to walk around separately in their own half.

A statement released by Football Federation Australia after the game said Saudi officials had agreed to let the minute’s silence go ahead, but also said that the tradition was “not in keeping with Saudi culture”.

Both the AFC and the Saudi team agreed that the minute of silence could be held. The FFA was further advised by Saudi team officials that this tradition was not in keeping with Saudi culture and they would move to their side of the field and respect our custom whilst taking their own positions on the field,” said the statement.

Labor senator Anthony Albonese called the scenes a “disgraceful lack of respect” on the Today show on Friday morning.

“That was a disgraceful lack of respect not just for the two Australians killed, one of whom was a young South Australians, all of those victims of that terror attack in London,” he said.

“There is no excuse here. This isn’t about culture, this is about a lack of respect. I thought it was disgraceful.”

The incident caused a huge reaction on social media.

Islamic Sheikh: ‘In Their Eyes The Attackers Are Martyrs’

An Islamic imam has suggested the Saudi Arabian team refused to take part in a minute’s silence for the London terror victims because they believe ‘it is not a sin for a Muslim to kill a non-believer’.

Sheikh Mohammad Tawhidi says it is a ‘lie’ to say the Muslim culture does not remember the dead with a moment of silence, and instead argues the football team did not partake in the mourning because they stand with the jihadist men.

‘They did not stop for a moment of silence because according to Wahhabi Islam – which governs Saudi Arabia – it is not wrong or a sin for a Muslim to kill a non-Muslim,’ he told Daily Mail Australia.
