Former German Chancellor Merkel Admits The Minsk Agreement Was Merely to Buy Time For Ukraine’s Arms Build-Up

In a recent interview with a German publication, former Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the 2014 ceasefire agreement under the Minsk Protocol was meant to give Ukraine time to build up its military. She admitted that Russia could easily have overrun Ukrainian troops in 2015 and doubted if NATO countries could have done as much then as they do. Russia has reacted to Merkel’s interview as a confirmation of Germany’s ‘duplicity’ regarding the war in Ukraine. Moscow said that Merkel, through her statement, has exposed that the West never planned to follow the peace accord.
