💭 Hitmaker band Earth, Wind & Fire’s drummer Fred White passed away at the age of 67 on New Year’s Day. The world lost another music legend as White served as backup to his brothers Maurice and Verdine. The Grammy-winning group was formed in 1970.

Maurice created the band, with Verdine as the vocalist, percussionist, and bass player, and Fred as the drummer. The band is known for its jazz, R&B, funk, soul, and rock music elements. Above all, they incorporated African music into their songs.

Earth, Wind & Fire has become a globally admired music band, with countless popular radio hits and incredible live performances. The group started to rise in fame after they went under Columbia Records’ management, which was then headed by Clive Davis.

Before he joined Earth, Wind & Fire, Fred has been playing the drums and was already successful. He played for Donny Hathaway in the mid-1970s. Verdine said that his brother is a truly gifted musician, and as young as 16 years old, he has already accomplished gold records.

The drummer’s brother did not reveal the cause of his death nor where he died. On the other hand, Maurice wrote in his memoir:

“Fred was the brick wall. He provided a rock-solid tempo and a rock-solid feel, priceless qualities in a drummer. He was one of the best things going for us.”

Fred White was born Frederick Eugene Adams in Chicago. He changed his surname to White to make certain that he is related to Maurice. He played the drums at the age of 9 and started joining gigs when he was 13. At 14, he already played for a nightclub band, and at 15, he met Donny Hathaway.

💭 Damar Hamlin: NFL game suspended after player collapses on field

American football star Damar Hamlin is in a critical condition after suffering a cardiac arrest during a primetime US National Football League game.

The Buffalo Bills player, 24, fell to the ground after colliding with an opponent during the first quarter of a match against the Cincinnati Bengals.

He received on-field medical attention for more than 30 minutes before being taken to a local hospital.

The NFL suspended the game for the night about an hour after the incident.

His team, the Buffalo Bills later confirmed the cardiac arrest in a statement and added that his heartbeat was restored on the field.

The emergency sparked an outpouring of well-wishes for Hamlin and brought attention back to the dangerous nature of America’s most popular sport as the NFL season approaches its climactic play-off stages.

Hamlin was tackling the Bengals’ receiver Tee Higgins in the stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio, when Higgins’ helmet appeared to hit Hamlin in the chest. After initially getting to his feet, he fell on his back.

Players from both teams gathered around Hamlin as emergency medical staff gave CPR and oxygen. Several were seen visibly distressed, with many kneeling to pray and some in tears.

Television coverage repeatedly broke away from the scene on the field, while the crowd in Cincinnati remained silent during the ordeal.

Jordon Rooney, Hamlin’s representative, wrote on Twitter: “His vitals are back to normal and they have put him to sleep to put a breathing tube down his throat. They are currently running tests. We will provide updates as we have them.”

NFL games are rarely suspended because of injury. Commentators said the fact that gameplay had stalled was a sign of the shocking and severe nature of the emergency.

The two teams are among the top Super Bowl contenders this year, with their head-to-head coming in the primetime Monday night slot in the penultimate week of the NFL’s regular season.

The league’s players’ association wrote in a statement: “We have been in touch with Bills and Bengals players and with the NFL. The only thing that matters at this moment is Damar’s health and well-being.”

Block’s company Hoonigan Industries announced his death in a social media post. The Californian became one of the most well-known racers thanks to his rally car success and was one of the co-founders of DC Shoe Company.

Nwaneri was at his wife’s home in West Lafayette — about 65 miles northwest of Indianapolis — when police received a call around 1 AM stating the 6’4″ NFL guard collapsed in a bedroom.

The Tippecanoe County Office of the Coroner tells us while the official cause hasn’t yet been determined, their initial (preliminary) report indicates Uche died of an “enlarged heart with acute heart failure”.

Authorities say there are no signs of trauma or foul play.

The official cause will not be named until the toxicology report comes back in a few weeks.
