Protesters in Iran have set on fire the ancestral home of the Islamic Republic’s founder Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, two months into the anti-regime protest movement, images showed on Friday.
The house in the city of Khomein in the western Markazi province was shown ablaze late Thursday with crowds of jubilant protesters marching past, according to images posted on social media, verified by AFP.
“This year is the year of blood,” some were heard chanting, according to a report by the Dubai-based Arab news outlet Al Arabiya, adding that current Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei “will be toppled.”
Khomeini is said to have been born at the house in the town of Khomein — from where his surname derives — at the turn of the century.
He became a cleric deeply critical of the US-backed shah Mohammed Reza Pahlavi, moved into exile but then returned in triumph from France in 1979 to lead the Islamic Revolution.
Khomeini died in 1989 but remains the subject of adulation by the clerical leadership under successor Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The house was eventually turned into a museum commemorating Khomeini. It was not immediately clear what damage it sustained.
The protests sparked by the death of Mahsa Amini, who was arrested by the morality police, pose the biggest challenge from the street to Iran’s leaders since the 1979 revolution.
They were fuelled by anger over the obligatory headscarf for women originally imposed by Khomeini but have turned into a movement calling for an end to the Islamic Republic itself.
Images of Khomeini have on occasion been torched or defaced by protesters, in taboo-breaking acts against a figure whose death is still marked each June with a holiday for mourning.

Yes, you are being replaced. Once derided as a racist conspiracy theory, “replacement theory” is not only confirmed but even touted by Democrat Sen. Chuck Schumer who yesterday claimed that millions of illegals must be granted amnesty because the US population “is not reproducing on its own.”
Of course, that’s because so-called “vaccine” injections — actually mRNA depopulation bioweapons — are causing widespread abortions, stillbirths, infertility and deaths. As expert analyst Ed Dowd told this reporter yesterday, post-vaccine excess mortality across the population at large is running around 32%, meaning an extra 2,400+ Americans are dying each day thanks to the mRNA jabs. And that’s on top of the 7,700 or so that normally die each day, bringing the total daily deaths in America right now beyond 10,000.
After pushing the genocidal vaccine, Sen. Schumer’s claim that “we have a population that is not reproducing on its own” seems tone deaf. Does he not realize his own vaccine mandates are killing off Americans? (Most likely, he knows full well.)
Illegals — who are not required to be vaccinated and are therefore fully capable of reproducing — are pouring into the country by the millions while both Dem and GOP senators push genocide for Americans. World Cup organisers in Qatar have been hit with claims of ‘total hypocrisy’ after banning fans from drinking beer in and around the country’s stadiums over the course of the tournament. The sale of alcohol is strictly controlled in Qatar, who had to relax their regulations to allow FIFA sponsors Budweiser to sell beer outside stadiums and in fan zones.
This measure was partially overturned on Friday with just two days until the World Cup gets underway and many fans having already travelled to the country under the impression they would be allowed to drink. Qatari officials have since come under fire after video footage taken byThe Mirrorshowed FIFA delegates and guests indulging in expensive champagne at a lavish party after the World Cup draw earlier this year.
England boss Gareth Southgate was among the revellers at the post-draw gathering, with attendees enjoying a selection of alcoholic beverages despite regular fans being unable to drink beer at World Cup stadiums. A number of drunken delegates were said to have invaded the stage to burst into a chorus of: “Ole, ole, ole, Qatar, Qatar,” while a waitress is quoted as saying: “It’s expensive French champagne and they are all drinking it like water. They just don’t care.”
The footage has sparked fury among supporters on their way to the World Cup, with England fan Neal Weekes one of several Qatar-bound fans with a hardline view on the matter. He said: “They are threatening us with no beer before the games, it’s outrageous. It’s one rule for them and one for us. It’s always the diehard fans who miss out. Total hypocrisy, it’s a disgrace.”
