Over time, the caldera filled with water, and forestation occurred, resulting in an environment that is home to many different animal species. Yellowstone National Park, according to park experts, is a safe refuge for one of the world’s largest super volcanoes, which is displaying indications of life.

It has been 640,000 years since the beast last awoke, roaring. 1,000 cubic kilometers of ash and lava were expelled during the supervolcanic eruption, which is 8,000 times more than Mount St. Helens emitted in 1980. The Yellowstone eruption area fell in on itself, leaving a 1,500 square mile buried huge crater or caldera. 💭 A Texas man was arrested after he entered a newborn baby nursery, started running around, snatched a baby and choked it while saying, “Die!”

The Odessa, Texas police department wrote about the attack on Facebook.

Marcus McGowan Jr. was arrested and charged with two counts of Attempted Capital Murder, as well as Assault, Assault of a Public Servant, Resisting Arrest, Attempting to Take a Weapon From an Officer, Criminal Trespass, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

On Monday evening, the Odessa Police Department arrested an 18-year-old man who allegedly broke into the newborn nursery at Odessa Regional Medical Center and assaulted two infants along with a group of medical staff trying to help the babies. Now an affidavit has revealed new details about the events that led to the arrest of Marcus McCowan Jr.

McCowan has been charged with two counts of Attempted Capital Murder, as well as Assault, Assault of a Public Servant, Resisting Arrest, Attempting to Take a Weapon From an Officer, Criminal Trespass, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.

According to the affidavit, around 6:30 p.m. on October 3, officers with the Odessa Police Department were called to ORMC, located at 520 E 6th Street after nurses called 911 and said a man was choking an infant. Officers arrived on the scene and, after a brief scuffle in which McCowan tried to resist, placed him in handcuffs. Investigators said as McCowan was being escorted away, he tried twice to take an officer’s gun from his holster but was unsuccessful.

Once McCowan was removed from the Labor and Delivery unit, investigators met with several nurses and a respiratory therapist who explained in detail what transpired.

McCowan was visiting the hospital because his girlfriend was in labor. According to one nurse, McCowan approached her at the nurse’s station and grabbed her arm and made an “unintelligible statement”. He was asked to leave the area and nurses said he then began running back and forth in the hall. The nurses called McCowan’s actions “odd and unreasonable”.

McCowan then reportedly approached a new mom who was holding her newborn in a baby carrier while waiting to be discharged. The nurses said McCown began focusing his attention on the newborn, but briefly walked away when the new mother moved her child from his line of sight. A short time later, nurses said they heard stomping and then saw McCowan running toward them at full speed while yelling and screaming.

💭 A gunman, identified as a former police officer, opened fire at a children’s day-care centre in the town of Nongbua Lamphu in Thailand on Thursday, killing at least 35 people, including 24 children.

According to police, following the shooting rampage at the day-care centre, the gunman fled the scene and later killed his wife and child before shooting himself dead. The suspect also used knives in the attack, as per Thai media reports.

Police said a total of two children and 10 adults died outside the childcare center, including the gunman, his wife and his son.

The United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) condemned the shooting incident and said that no child should be a “target or witness of violence anywhere, anytime”.

“The UNICEF is saddened and shocked by the tragic shooting incident at an early childhood development centre in Thailand’s northern province of Nong Bua Lamphu, where dozens of people were reported killed, many of them young children. UNICEF condemns all forms of violence against children,” it said.

The UNICEF further said that early childhood development centres, schools and all learning spaces must be “safe havens” for young children to learn, play and grow during their most critical years.

“UNICEF sends its heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to the families who lost loved ones and the injured. We join all people in Thailand in mourning and hope that those affected receive appropriate and timely support,” it said.

It also requested members of the public and the media to refrain from posting or forwarding images and videos related to this violent incident, as this “may further negatively impact children, victims’ families, and their loved ones”.

🐍 Maiden Pharmaceuticals: WHO Links Gambia Deaths to India-Made Cough Syrups

The World Health Organization has issued a product alert on four cough syrups made in India, linking them with 66 child deaths in The Gambia.

This came after an investigation into the deaths of children from kidney injuries in the West African country.

The health body is “conducting further investigation” with the firm – Maiden Pharmaceuticals – and Indian authorities.

It has also advised regulators to stop sale of the syrups.

India’s health ministry and drugs regulator are yet to officially comment on the WHO’s product alert, which it published on its website.

The BBC has emailed Maiden Pharmaceuticals for comment.

Indian government sources told the BBC on condition of anonymity that India’s drug regulator had launched an investigation after it was informed of the issue on 29 September.

The regulator has also asked the WHO to share its report establishing the “causal relation to death with the medical products in question”, they said.

The WHO findings, announced by Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Wednesday, came after samples of each of the four cough syrups were tested. It identified the medicines as Promethazine Oral Solution, Kofexmalin Baby Cough Syrup, Makoff Baby Cough Syrup and Magrip N Cold Syrup.The health body said that laboratory analysis had confirmed that the syrups contain “unacceptable amounts” of diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol, which are toxic to humans and can prove fatal when consumed.

The WHO said that so far, the products have been identified in The Gambia, but that they may have been distributed to other countries through informal markets.

“All batches of these products should be considered unsafe until they can be analysed by the relevant National Regulatory Authorities,” it added.

However, the sources cited above said that the company has exported these cough syrups “only to The Gambia so far”.

India produces a third of the world’s medicines, mostly in the form of generic drugs.

Home to some of the fastest growing pharmaceutical companies, the country is known as the “world’s pharmacy” and meets much of the medical needs of African nations.

Maiden Pharmaceuticals, which is based in the northern state of Haryana, exports its products to countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America, according to Reuters.

Medical officers in The Gambia first raised the alarm in July after dozens of children were diagnosed with serious kidney problems.

The Gambia’s director of health services, Mustapha Bittaye, told Reuters that the number of deaths had gone down in recent weeks and that the country had banned the sale of the products.

“However, until recently, some of the syrups were still being sold in private clinics and in hospitals,” he was quoted as saying.

Moderna & Pfizer Start mRNA Flu Vaccine | The Same Flu That Disappeared Worldwide 2020 When COVID Struck

The Phase 3 trial of an mRNA influenza vaccine has begun at two major pharmaceutical companies, Moderna and Pfizer.

A major Phase 3 clinical trial assessing the efficacy, safety, tolerability, and immunogenicity of Pfizer’s quadrivalent modified RNA (modRNA) influenza vaccine candidate in about 25,000 healthy U.S. adults has begun dosing participants, the pharmaceutical giant reported last month.

“For years, there has been a need to better address the burden of influenza, despite the use of existing seasonal flu vaccines. Our experience with RNA viruses and mRNA technology has given us an even deeper understanding of the opportunity to potentially provide more efficacious vaccines that could further reduce the yearly rates of the severe outcomes of viral disease like flu, including hospitalization and death,” claimed Annaliesa Anderson, Ph.D., Senior Vice President and Chief Scientific Officer, Vaccine Research and Development, Pfizer.

“We are excited to start the first Phase 3 efficacy study of an mRNA-based influenza vaccine that could potentially deliver an improved flu vaccine to help address the significant burden of this disease,” she added.

Pfizer ensures that its clinical trial participants properly represent the racial and ethnic diversity of the countries in which they are conducted.

“The impact of flu on racial and ethnic minority groups in the U.S. is even larger. Black Americans are 1.8 times more likely than their white counterparts to be hospitalized for flu while Latino and Indigenous Americans are 1.2 and 1.3 times more likely, respectively,” according to the news release.
