በነገራችን ላይ ይህ ባለፈው ሳምንት በአሜሪካ የተከበረው “የምስጋና ዕለት” / “Thanksgiving“/ የአሜሪካ ነባር ነዋሪዎችን/’ቀይ ሕንዶችን’ እና ጥቁሮችን በበቂ ጨፍጭፈው ግዛቱን ሁሉ ኤዶማውያኑ አንግሎ ሳክሰኖች መውረስ ስለበቁ ነው “የምስጋና ዕለት” ብለው የሰየሙት። በኢትዮጵያም በወረራ መልክ የሰፈሩት ኦሮሞዎች/ጋላዎች ብዙ የኢትዮጵያ ነገዶችን ከምድረ ገጽ አጥፍተው እርስቶቻቸውን በመውረሳቸው ነው፤ “ኢሬቻ” የተባለውን የዋቄዮ-አላህ-ዲያብሎስን ማመስገኛ በዓል የጀመሩት። ሰሞኑን ዲያስፐራ የኦሮሞ ልሂቃን የተካፈሉበትን አንድ ስብሰባ ለመጥለፍ ሞክሬ ነበር፤ በደስታ እና በኩራት ደጋግመው ሲያወሱት የነበረው፤ “አንድ ሚሊየን የሚጠጉ የትግራይ ጽዮናውያንን አስወግደናል…” የሚለው ነገር ነበር። በሜዲያዎቻቸውም ያዘኑ መስለው፤ ግን በኩራት ድምጻቸውን ከፍ እያደረጉ ይህን ቁጥር በተደጋጋሚ ሲያወሱ ሰምተናል። ይህን ማንም ገብቶ መታዘብ ይችላል።

አዎ! ያለፈው ታሪክ የወደፊቱ መስተዋት ሲሆን የዛሬው ታሪክ ደግሞ ያለፈው ታሪክ መስተዋት ነው። ኢትዮጵያን ኢትዮጵያ ያደረጓት ጽዮናውያን ለብዙ ሺህ ዓመታት ልጆቻቸውን ለኢትዮጵያ ደህንነት፣ ነጻነትና ሰላም ደማቸውን እያፈሰሱ፣ እየተራቡና እየተሰደዱ ሲታገሉ ጠላቶቿ የሆኑት መጤዎቹ ኦሮሞዎች ደግሞ ጽዮናውያን በሰጧቸው ግዛት ሰፍረው ሃያ ሰባት ነገዶችን አጥፍተው፣ ዛሬም ኢትዮጵያውያንን እየገደሉና እያፈናቀሉ እነርሱ ግን ልክ እንደ ሩዋንዳ እና ቡሩንዲ ሁቱዎች ህገ-ወጥ በሆነ መልክ ከሦስት አራት ሴቶች አማሌቃውያን ልጆቻቸውን ፈልፍለው ዛሬ ለምንሰማውና ለምናየው የ “እኛ እንበዛለን! ሁሉም ኬኛ” ጥጋበኛ እና እብሪተኛ ማንነታቸው በቅተዋል። አዎ! ዛሬም ጽዮናውያን አዲስ አበባ ድረስ ገብተው በእነ ጃዋር መሀመድ በኩል አዲስ አበባን ያስረክቡናል ብለው ተስፋ በማድረግ ላይ ናቸው፤ ለማጭበርበሪያ ደግሞ ላለፉት ስድስት ወራት፤ “የኦሮሞ ነፃ አውጭ ግንባር የተባለው ቡድን በወለጋ እየተዋጋ ነው ለአዲስ አበባ ሰላሳ ኪሊሜትር ቀርቶናል” ሲሉ ከርመዋል። ወስላቶች! ግብዞች!

ለማንኛውም ግራኝ እና ቅጥረኛ ሰራዊቱ በአክሱምና ታቦተ ጽዮን ዙሪያ ምን እንዳደረጉ ባፋጣኝ መጣራት አለበት። የሚደበቅ ነገር መኖር የለበትም፤ ጊዜው እየሄደ ነው! ይህ ዘመቻ የታቦተ ጽዮንን ለመስረቅ የተካሄደ ዘመቻ ነው!

በሦስት ሽህ ዓመት ታሪኳ ስንት ጥቃትና ጦርነት አሳልፋ ለዚህ የበቃችውን አክሱም ጽዮንን እነ ግራኝ አህመድ ቀዳማዊና ዮዲት ጉዲት እንኳን ይህን ያህል አልደፈሯትም ነበር፤ አሁን በዘመናችን የታየው ድፍረትና ጥቃት፣ ይህም ጽንፈኛና አረሜናዊ ተግባር መፈጸሙን መላዋ ዓለም ከተገነዘበች ከአንድ ዓመት በኋላ ከቤተ ክህነት እስከ “ተዋሕዶ ነኝ፣ ስለ ጽዮን ዝም አልልም!” ባይ አማራ + ኦሮሞ + ጉራጌ + የደቡብ “ክርስቲያኖችና ኢትዮጵያውያን” በጋራ ጸጥ ጭጭ ብለዋል። የሚነግረን ይህ ትውልድ ምን ያህል ከንቱ መሆኑን ነው።

እነ ግራኝ አረመኔዎቹ በረሃብና በጥይት እየቀጡት ስላሉት ስለ ትግራይ ሕዝብ መከራ እና ጪኸት እግዚአብሔር እየተነሣ ነው። በዚህ ከንቱ ትውልድ የተደገፈው የግራኝ ሠራዊት ጽላተ ሙሴን ለመስረቅ ወደ አክሱም አመራ፤ ነገር ገን መንፈስ ቅዱስ የመራቸው የትግራይ ተዋሕዶ አገልጋዮች ጽላቱን አስቀድመው ወደተፈቀደለት ቦታ ወስደውት ነበር። ይህን የተገነዘበው የግራኝ ሠራዊት በብስጭት፣ በቁጣና በበቀል ከሰባት መቶ ሃምሳ ስምንት እስከ ስህ ም ዕመናንን አክሱም ጽዮን ቤተ ክርስቲያን ፊት ገደላቸው፤ ለሰማዕትነት አበቃቸው። አሁን ስድስት ሚሊየን ተዋሕዷውያንን በረሃብ ለመቅጣት ምግብና ውሃ እንዳይደርሳቸው በመከልከል ላይ ነው። በተቀረው የኢትዮጵያ ግዛቶች የሚኖረው አሳፋሪና ከንቱ ትውልድ ዛሬም ዝምታውን መርጧል፤ አንድነትንና ርህራሄን ሳያሳይ በቀን ሦስት ጊዜ እየበላ በግድየለሽነት መኖሩን ቀጥሏል። ስድስት ሚሊየን የትግራይን ሕዝብ ከረሃብ ለማዳን የአዲስ አበባ ነዋሪ “ጦርነቱን አቁሙ፣ እርዳታውን ስጡ!” የሚል ታላቅ ሰልፍ ማድረግ ቢችል ብቻ በቂ ነበር፤ ግን “እኔ ብቻ! የኔ ብቻ! ኬኛ!” የሚል ስለሆነ እና የትግራይ ሕዝብ እንዲያልቅ ስለፈለገ ይህን አያደርገውም። ስለዚህ በእሳት ቢጠራረግና ወደ ሲዖል ቢወርድ አላዝንም!

በውስጣቸው እስራኤላውያን እንዲመሩባቸው ፲/10ቱ ትእዛዛት የተጻፉባቸውን ጽላት ይዞ ሲመጣ እስራኤላውያን አምልኮተ እግዚአብሔርን ትተው፤ ውለታውን ረስተው በጣዖት አምልኮት ቢያገኛቸው ከካህን እጅ መስቀል እንዲወድቅ ደንግጾ ጽላቱ ከእጁ ወድቆ ጣዖቱን ደምስሶታል። እግዚአብሔርም እንደቀደሙት ዓይነት ሁለት ጽላት ቀርጾ እንዲያመጣ ባዘዘው መሰረት ጽላቱን እግዚአብሔር ባዘዘው መሰረት ሰርቶ አቅርቧል፤ እግዚአብሔርም አሠርቱን ትዕዛዛት ጽፎበታል። ይህም የሆነው ለምሥጢር ነው የቀደመው ጽላት የአዳም ምሳሌ ሲሆን የመጀመሪያው ሰው አዳም በታላቅ ክብር ተፈጥሮ ሳለ ክብሩን ሕገ እግዚአብሔርን በመጣስ ወድቋል፤ ከክብር ቦታው ተሰዷል። ሁለተኛው ጽላት ምሳሌ ከሰው ወገን የሆነች በእግዚአብሔር የተመረጠች፤ ምክንያተ ድኅነት የሆነችው ቅድስት ድንግል ማርያም ስትሆን የተጻፈው ቃል የቀዳማዊው ቃል ሦስቱ ቅዱስ አንዱ ቅዱስ የሆነው የጌታችን የመድኃኒታችን ምሳሌ ነው። [ዮሐ. ፩፥፩፡፫] ታቦተ ጽዮን ፵/40 ዘመናት መናን ከደመና ውሐን ከጭንጫ እያፈለቀ በሠናይ መግቦት ምድረ ርስት አግብቷቸዋል፣ እግዚአብሔር በጽላቱ ላይ ያነጋግራቸው የልባቸውንም መሻት ይፈጽምላቸው ነበር።

ታቦተ ጽዮን በአፍኒንና ፊንሐስ በኃጢአት በካህኑ ኤሊ ቸልተኝነት ምክንያት ተማርካ በፍልስጤማውያን እጅ ከተማረከች በኋላ ፍልስጤማውያን አዛጦን ወስደው በቤተ ጣዖታቸው ከዳጎን ጋር አስቀመጧት። በማግስቱ ሊያጥኑለት ሊሰውለት ቢገቡ ዳጎን በታቦተ ጽዮን ፊት በግምባሩ ወድቆ አገኙት። ከቦታው መልሰውት ሄዱ። በሌላው ቀን ሲመለሱ እጅ እግሩ ተቆራርጦ ደረቱ ለብቻው ቀርቶ አገኙ ፤ ሰዎቹም በእባጭ ተመቱ። መቅሰፍቱ ቢጸናባቸው ወደጌት ወሰዷት። የጌት ሰዎችም እንዲሁ በመቅሰፍት ተመቱ። ወደ አስቀሎና ቢወስዷት “ልታስፈጁን ነው ወደ ሀገሯ መልሱልን” ብለው ጮሁ። ከሰባት ወር በኋላ ወደ ሀገሯ ትመለስ ብለው ቀንበር ባልተጫነባቸው በሚያጠቡ ላሞች በሚሳብ አዲስ ጋሪ አድርገው የበደል መስዋዕት እንዲሆን በአምስቱ ከተሞቻቸው አምሳል አምስት የወርቅ አይጦች አድርገው ሰደዷት። ላሞቹ ወደ ግራ ወደ ቀኝ ሳይሉ ከኢያሱ እርሻ ደርሰው ቆመዋል። ታቦተ ጽዮንን ከሐውልተ ስምዕ አኑረው ሠረገላውን ፈልጠው ላሞቹን አርደው መስዋዕት አቀረቡ። ነገር ግን ሕዝቡ ታቦተ ጽዮንን በድፍረት በማየታቸው ፭/5 ሺህ ያህሉ ተቀስፈዋል። ወስደውም በአሚናዳብ ቤት አድርገዋት ልጁ አልዓዛር ፳/20 ዓመት አገልግሏታል።

We May Never Know The Full Truth About The Axum Massacre

💭 My Note: Are all parts trying to conceal the magnitude of these atrocities by continuing and spreading the war to other regions of Ethiopia? Alongside reducing the population of the young and Christian – to deflect attention away – and to buy more time? Why are TPLF start permitting “special envoys” like Mr. Obasanjo and British diplomats to enter Mekelle but not independent observers and investigators yet?

💭 What happened on a 24 hour killing spree in Tigray last year remains unclear.

On 28th November 2020 Eritrean soldiers went on the rampage in Axum, a holy city in Ethiopia’s northern Tigray region, whose main church is believed by Ethiopian Orthodox Christians to hold the Ark of Covenant. Over the course of 24 hours, they went door to door summarily shooting unarmed young men and boys.

Some of the victims were as young as 13. The Eritrean soldiers forbade residents from burying slain relatives and neighbours so the bodies lay rotting in the streets for days. Witnesses later described hearing hyenas come at night to feed on the dead.

Eritrean soldiers had shelled and then occupied Axum around a week earlier, having invaded Tigray in early November in support of an offensive by Ethiopia’s federal government against the region’s rebellious leaders. The killings were carried out in apparent retaliation for an attack by local Tigrayan militia and residents on Eritrean soldiers, who had been pillaging the town for days.

Amid a total communications blackout that plunged the region of 6 million into darkness, it took weeks for the news to seep to the outside world. On 9th December 2020, less than two weeks after the massacre, UN Secretary General Antonio Gutteres told a New York press conference that Ethiopia’s prime minister, Abiy Ahmed, had personally assured him that Eritrean soldiers had not even entered Tigray. Abiy, who less than a year before the Axum massacre received the Nobel Peace Prize in Oslo for reconciling with Eritrea, would not admit the presence of Eritrean troops until April.

The contrast to other recent conflicts is stark. When war erupted in Gaza earlier this year, for instance, the internet was quickly flooded with images of bomb damage and explosions. Viewers of Al Jazeera could watch live as the owner of a block housing the Associated Press and other media negotiated over the phone with the Israeli military, who were poised to blow the building up.

“It is incredible that – in this emblematic town – such horror could happen without the international community responding,” said Laetitia Bader, Horn of Africa Director at Human Rights Watch. “The reports only really started coming out three months later. Where else in the world can you have a massacre on this scale that is completely kept in darkness for that long?”

Barred from Ethiopia, researchers from Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International resorted to piecing together what happened in Axum through phone calls and interviews with refugees who had fled over the border to Sudan. Between March and June international journalists were briefly allowed into Tigray, but checkpoints and fighting in the region meant few were able to reach the city.

The fighting also prevented a joint team from the United Nations and the state-appointed Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHCR) from travelling there. When they released their much-anticipated report into human rights abuses committed in Tigray earlier this month it contained no testimony gathered in Axum. This was, remember, the site of one of the worst atrocities in a now year-long conflict that has been characterised by reports of summary executions, torture, starvation, gang rapes and rampant looting.

As a result, much of what happened there remains unclear. Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International believe several hundred civilians were massacred, whereas the joint UN-EHRC investigation vaguely concluded that “more than 100” were killed. A senior Ethiopian diplomat dismissed initial reports of the massacre as “very, very crazy” but later the attorney general’s office concluded Eritrean troops had in fact killed civilians in reprisal shootings, giving the figure of 110.

These patterns of contestation run through the whole conflict in Northern Ethiopia. Meanwhile communities caught on both sides of the fighting are living with immense trauma. When I visited the eastern Tigray village of Dengelat in April, residents had buried dozens of loved ones in graves topped with stones and bloodstained pieces of clothing. They had been killed by Eritrean soldiers during a religious festival six months before, but people there had received little outside help, except for some food supplies from aid agencies. Investigators have still not visited the site, and the whole of Tigray has once again been cut off from the outside world.

Unlike Dengelat, researchers from the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission did manage to visit Axum on a “fact-finding mission” in late February and early March, which was separate to the joint report with the UN, but they did not do a full investigation. Laetitia Bader from Human Rights Watch believes the story of what happened there during those 24 hours last year may never be fully uncovered: “Day by day, the chances for in-depth investigations that could lead to criminal prosecutions are receding.”

ጠርጠሉስ የተባለውና በ፪/2ኛው መቶ ክፍለ ዘመን (፻፷/160 እስከ፪፻፳/ 220 ከክርስቶስ ልደት በኋላ) የነበረው ታላቅ ፀሐፊና የክርስትና ጠበቃ ስለ ሰማዕታት ደም በተናገረበት ሥፍራ ያስቀመጠው ነው። ተርቱሊያን/ Tertullian ወይም በእኛ አጠራር ‘ጠርጠሉስ’ የሚባለው ሊቅ ከመጀመሪያዎቹ የክርስትና አባቶች ጋር የሚቆጠር እንዲያውም የላቲኖች (በላቲን የምትናገረው፣ የምትጽፈው) ቤተ ክርስቲያን ወይም የምዕራብ ቤተ ክርስቲያን አባት ተብሎ መጠራት እንዳለበት ብዙዎች የሚስማሙበት ሊቅ ነበር። በእኛ በኦርቶዶክሳውያንም ሆነ በካቶሊኮቹ ዘንድ ብዙም ስሙ ሲጠቀስ የማይሰማው ከጻፋቸው ጽሑፎች መካከል ከቤተ ክርስቲያን ትምህርት የወጡ ስላሉበት ነው። ይሁን እንጂ ይህንን ሊቅ በዚህ ሥፍራ መጥቀስ ያስፈለገው አገሩና ምንጩ የሰሜን አፍሪካ (የዛሬዋ ቱኒዚያ) አካል በሆነችው በካርቴጅ የተገኘ በመሆኑና በወቀቱ የአዲስ ኪዳን የመጀመርያው ሰማእት ከሆነው ከሰማእቱ ቅዱስ እስጢፋኖስ ዘመን ጀምሮ የብዙ ክርስቲያን ሰማዕታትን መሰዋዕት የታዘበድንቅ አባት ስለሆነም ጭምር ነው።

ልክ እንደ ዛሬዎቹ አክሱማውያን፤ ክርስቲያኖች እንዴት ዓይነት መከራ ይቀበሉ እንደነበረ፣ እንዴት የሰማዕትነትን አክሊል ይቀዳጁ እንደነበረ፣ ጠርጠሉስ በነገሥታቱ ፊት፥ ቀርቦ ሲመሰክር እንዲህ ብሎ ነበር፦

“አውግዙን፣ አሰቃዩን፣ ስቀሉን፥፣ ግደሉን፣ አጥፉን፤ የእናንተ ክፋት ለእኛ እውነተኝነት ምስክርነት ነው!። የእናንተ እንዲህ ክፉ መኾን፣ የእናንተ እንዲህ አረመኔ መኾን፣ የእናንተ እንዲህ ደካማ መኾን፤ የእኛን እውነተኝነት ይመሰክራል። በእናንተ በተሰቃየን ቁጥር፥ እየበዛን እንኼዳለን፤ የሰማዕታት ደም የቤተ ክርስቲያን ዘር ነው። ባሰቃያችሁን ቁጥር እየበዛን እንኼዳለን። የሰማዕታት ደም የክርስትና ዘር ነው። እኛ ሁላችን በሰማዕታት ደም የተዘራን ነን!።”

እናም ይህ አፍሪካዊ ሊቅ ለእኛም እና በቁጥር ጨዋታ ለተጠመዱት (መቶ አስር ሚሊየን ለስድስት ሚሊየን)የዲያብሎስ ጭፍሮች ከሺህ ስምንት መቶ ዓመታት በፊት እንዲህ ብሎናል፦

“ …. የበለጠ በገደላችሁን መጠን የበለጠ እንኖራለን (አለን)። የሰማዕታት ደም የቤተ ክርስቲያን [ምርጥ] ዘር ነውና። … ጭካኔያችሁ የሚያሳየው እኛን ከምትከሱበት ወንጀል ነጻ መሆናችንን ነው። … እናም ዓላማችሁን ከንቱ ታደርጋላችሁ። ምክንያቱም ስንገደል/ ስንሞት የሚመለከቱ ሰዎች ለምን እንደምንገደል ይገረማሉ። እንደ ወንጀለኛ እና እንደ ተናቀ ሰው ሳይሆን እናንተ እንደምታከብሯቸው ሰዎች በክብር እንሞታለንና። [ስንገደል/ ስንሞት የሚመለከቱ ሰዎች] እውነቱን ሲረዱ ደግሞ እኛን ይመስሉናል/ ከእኛ ጋር አንድ ይሆናሉ (ይቀላቀሉናል)።”

ለዚህም ነው እስካሁን ድረስ (ሰማዕታተ ዘአክሱም፤ በሕዳር ወር ፳፻፲፫ ዓ/ም።) ያለማቋረጥ የሰማዕታት ሱታፌ ክርስቲያኖች የሚቋደሱት። በዘመናችን፥ በክርስትና ሃይማኖታቸው ምክንያት ክርስቲያኖች በተለያዩ የዓለም ክፍሎች፦ በኢራቅ፣ በሶርያ፣ በፓኪስታን፣ በግብጽ፣ በናጄሪያ፣ በኬንያ፣ በሊቢያ፣ ዛሬ ደግሞ በአክሱማዊቷ ኢትዮጵያ ሃገራችን በብዙ ሥፍራዎች ደማቸው እየፈሰሰ፣ አጥንታቸው እየተከሰከሰ፣ አንገታቸው በሰይፍ እየተቀላ ነው።

በጌታችንና በመድኃኒታችን በክርስቶስ ፍቅር “ኃይልን በሚሰጠን በክርስቶስ ሁሉን እችላለን።” እንዲኹም ደግሞ በአጸደ ሥጋ ኾነ በአጸደ ነፍስ ብንኾን እንኳ፦ “በሕይወት ሆነን ብንኖር ለጌታ እንኖራለንና፥ ብንሞትም ለጌታ እንሞታለን። እንግዲህ በሕይወት ሆነን ብንኖር ወይም ብንሞት የጌታ ነን።”[፯]፤ ከክርስቶስ ጋር ለመኖር ደግሞ ለእኛ በክርስቶስ ክርስቲያኖች ለተባልን፦ “ልንሄድ ከክርስቶስም ጋር ልንኖር እንናፍቃለን፤ ከሁሉ ይልቅ እጅግ የሚሻል ነውና” [፰]፤ ለክርስቶስ መሞታችን የሕይወት መንገዳችንና፣ አክሊላችን ነውና!። ይኼ ሥም ከድንቆችም በላይ ድንቅ ሥም ነው፣ አጋንንት ሥሙን ሲሰሙት ይረበሻሉ፣ ይንቀጠቀጣሉ፣ ይሸበራሉ፤ እኮ ይኼ ስም ማነው? በነቢያት ትንቢት የተተነበየለት፣ በመዝሙራትና በምሳሌ ስለ እርሱ የተነገረ፣ ስሙንም ድንግል ማርያም አማኑኤል ብላ ትጠራዋለች ተብሎ የተነገረለት፤ ኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ነው!!!።

A British citizen who was released from death row in Ethiopia after a high-profile government lobbying effort has been accused of telling soldiers to carry out genocide in the East African nation’s bloody civil war.

Andargachaew Tsege, an Ethiopian-born UK citizen who was freed after pleas from Philip Hammond and Jeremy Corbyn, urged soldiers to resort to “the most savage of cruelties”, in a speech seen by The Telegraph.

“I tell you, you must not hesitate from resorting to the most barbaric of cruelties when you face them,” he said, referring to the ethnically Tigrayan opposition army that is advancing on the capital, Addis Ababa.

“You must be merciless, you must act beyond what our [ethnic] Amhara or Ethiopian cultural values permit,” Mr Tsege, a top government advisor dressed in army fatigues, yelled at a cheering crowd which included armed fighters.

Mr Tsege’s inflammatory rhetoric comes at a time when ethnic Tigrayans are allegedly being rounded up into concentration camps and murdered. It has been widely interpreted as a call to kill Tigrayan civilians.

“It is genocide incitation against Tigrayans. It adds to the list of similar public incitements by public figures of the regime in Addis [Ababa],” said Mehari Taddele Maru, a professor at the European University Institute in Florence.

“What is more baffling is the international community’s, including UK’s and US, silence to genocidal incitement and war by their nationals.”

Tens of thousands of people have died since the war between Ethiopian federal and allied troops, and fighters from the northern country’s Tigray region broke out late last year.

Now the prospect of the ancient nation of 115 million people breaking apart has alarmed observers who fear what would happen to the already fragile Horn of Africa.

In 2015, Mr Tsege, an Ethiopian-born UK citizen was at the heart of a diplomatic feud between Addis Ababa and London.

The 66-year-old is an opposition leader who first fled Ethiopia in the 1970s after the country’s old Marxist dictatorship murdered his brother.

The UK granted him asylum in 1979 and he went on to study the works of the German philosopher Immanuel Kant at the University of Greenwich.

Later he married in the UK, fathered three children and was granted full UK citizenship, voiding his Ethiopian citizenship as the country does not allow dual nationality.

In the 1990s, Mr Tsege returned to Ethiopia to work in opposition politics against the new authoritarian government which was dominated by ethnic Tigrayan elites.

The Tigrayans are just one of more than 80 ethnic groups in Ethiopia but despite its small size, the group has played a huge role in Ethiopia’s modern history and dominated the country’s politics for almost 30 years up to 2018.

Accused of organising a failed coup

In 2009, he was accused of organising a failed coup and sentenced to death in absentia. Then five years later he was arrested by airport guards in Yemen and extradited to Ethiopia where he was put in solitary confinement on death row.

Mr Tsege was dubbed “Andy Tsege” by parts of the British press. His plight was covered widely and his family appeared on Good Morning Britain and other major news shows, to advocate for his release.

Jeremy Corbyn, Mr Tsege’s local MP, tried to lead a delegation to Ethiopia to secure his release in early 2015.

Later, Philip Hammond, at the time foreign secretary, warned Ethiopia – one of the top recipients of UK aid – that the country’s relationship with the UK was being threatened by the treatment of Mr Tsege.

Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch also campaigned heavily for his release.

In 2018, he was pardoned by the newly appointed Prime Minister Abiy. He is believed to be an advisor to the Nobel laureate.

According to ABC News in America, at the start of November, the US government is considering designating the Ethiopian federal army atrocities in the northern Tigray region over the last year as a genocide.

Sixty-four civil society organisations (CSOs) and personalities at the weekend asked the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Antonio Guterres to urgently take measures to prevent imminent genocide in Ethiopia.

“If Addis Ababa should come under threat of falling to TDF, the Tigrayan internees – wherever they are held – would, under current conditions, be liable to be exterminated.”
