Female Chess Champ will Skip Tournament, Lose Titles in Protest of Dress Codes for Female Competitors in Saudi Arabia

A two-time female world chess champion from the Ukraine, has decided to skip an upcoming tournament in Saudi Arabia even though doing so will cause her to lose her titles.

Because she refuses to be treated like a “secondary creature” in the oppressive Saudi Kingdom.

Champion Anna Muzychuk is boycotting the upcoming tournament in Saudi Arabia to make a stand for women’s rights, she said in a December 23 social media post.

In a few days I am going to lose two world champion titles – one by one,” Muzychuk wrote. “Just because I decided not to go to Saudi Arabia. Not to play by someone’s rules, not to wear abaya, not to be accompanied outside, and altogether no to feel myself a secondary creature.”

Muzychuk went on to say how proud she is of her titles, but that she is ready to stand for her principles. Her action will cause her to miss out on the possibility of winning a grand prize of $2 million put up by crown prince Mohammed bin Salman.

I was expected to earn more than I do in a dozen of events combined,” Muzychuk said of missing out on have a shot to take home the winner’s purse.

All that is annoying, but the most upsetting thing is that almost nobody really cares,” Muzychuk continued. “That is a really bitter feeling, still not the one to change my principles,” she wrote.

Muzychuk concluded her post saying that her sister Mariya shares her views and promised, “And, yes, for those few who care – we’ll be back.”

The controversy over what female contestants would wear at the tournament had already become a sticking point. Still, the World Chess Federation declared a victory of sorts when it negotiated a dress code it termed“historic,” which excluded full-body abayas and substituted headscarves and high-necked white blouses. The change in dress code, though, wasn’t enough for Muzychuk and her sister who still decided not to compete.

Other controversies have also shaken the tournament. The Saudi authorities refused to invite Israeli competitors, and the teams from Iran and Qatar have thus far refused to accept an invitation over regional political rivalries.

Selected Comments:

Bravo Anna, you are an inspiration to women to reject this belief system. There are not many who would sacrifice what you are to live their values.

Thanks for standing up to these med evil butchers

Good for you Anna and shame on the World Chess Federation for it’s part in this farce. You are a true role model. The tournament should be held in locations that do not have such ridiculous and insane conditions for any participant. And to think, we have feminists wanting that here, incredible.

Yes. Her beliefs are more important to her than a trophy. Outstanding!

Congratulations Anna Muzychuk! A true winner would never succumb to the injustice of islam.

Where’s the feminist screechers when it’s a real issue?

Wave a two dollar bill under Hillary’s nose and she would sell out the entire woman’s movement… oh, the Saudi’s already did? Nevermind.

How can they hold a credible Chess tournament in Saudi Arabia if the Israeli team is barred and females who reject being second-class humans are also barred? Saudi Arabia seemed to be making some small progress but this shows they are still a backward Muslim country.

Backward is a compliment !! they are well beyond backward. If it weren’t for Western Christian civilization they would still be in the STONE AGE

..and how can they hold a credible tournament when the person holding the World champion Title does not want to participate in this charade?!

Saudi Police Shot And Stole From Ethiopians During Mass Deportation Claim Abused Migrants

  • Saudi Arabia’s latest wave of deportations began November 11 after several months of warnings by the government.
  • Authorities say the kingdom has detained around 250,000 people violating its residency laws in the crackdown.
  • Approximately 50,000 already forcibly flown out of the country.

In interviews with The Associated Press upon their arrival home, the returnees described beatings, theft and stays in dirty prison camps. Their accounts brought to light one of the world’s busiest and most dangerous migrant routes but one that remains overlooked amid the larger rush toward Europe.

In August, traffickers heaved scores of migrants into the sea off Yemen, leaving more than 50 to drown. In March, more than 30 Somali migrants, including children, were killed — apparently in a helicopter gunship attack by a Saudi-led coalition at war in Yemen.

Saudi Arabia’s latest wave of deportations began Nov. 11 after several months of warnings by the government. Saudi authorities say the kingdom has detained around 250,000 people violating its residency laws in the crackdown, with approximately 50,000 already forcibly flown out of the country.

Of those who entered the country illegally, 72 percent were from Yemen and 26 percent were Ethiopians.

Those arriving home in Ethiopia described the process as jarring and unfair. The six who spoke to the AP at the airport in the capital, Addis Ababa, said they were robbed of their possessions by “Saudi police officers” who shared their money between them. Some of the returnees said they saw compatriots being shot and wounded when they tried to escape police roundups.

“The prison cell I was put into was so dirty that some of us were severely sick. It was like a toilet,” said Sadiq Ahmed, a former teacher who went to Saudi Arabia five years ago and was detained for 11 days before his deportation. “As if this was not enough, we were robbed of our belongings. I came here with nothing. I know lots of people who went insane because of this torment.”

Ethiopia’s government says more than 14,000 of its citizens have been deported since mid-November and 70,000 have returned voluntarily, but the International Organization Migration says the number that has left forcibly or voluntarily since the amnesty period ended in June has reached 96,000.

Saudi Arabia ordered all undocumented migrants to leave voluntarily in March, an order later extended until June. The majority of the migrants chose to remain and now face forced deportation.

“I stayed in Saudi Arabia for five years just to support my family and other siblings,” said deportee Fozia Omar, adding that she spent one month in prison but was allowed to bring her luggage. “We have suffered a lot. I would like to beg my brothers and sisters not to repeat the mistake we already made, in the name of Allah.”

An estimated 400,000 Ethiopian migrants had been living in Saudi Arabia.

“The number of returnees could rise even higher in the coming weeks,” the IOM said, adding that around $30 million is needed to cover their immediate needs. Those include transportation to final destinations for many of the most vulnerable such as unaccompanied minors, single mothers and those who said they had been abused.

Turkey Is Reviving The Ottoman Empire And Biblical Cush Is Welcoming Turkey In Submission, As The Government Of Sudan Is Now Allowing Turkey To Expand Its Military Into Sudan

When we read Daniel’s “the Libyans and Ethiopians shall follow at his heels.” (Daniel 11:43) it means that Libya, Tunisia, Sudan, Somalia and Chad will simply follow and submit to Antichrist. We have argued that this Antichrist will some day come out of Turkey reviving the Ottoman Empire and yesterday, Erdogan’s visit marked the first time that a Turkishpresident has ever visited Sudan since the independence of the North African nation in 1956.

Even Reuters states that this expedition into North Africa is to revive Ottoman hegemony:

Turkey will rebuild a ruined Ottoman port city on Sudan’s Red Sea coast and construct a naval dock to maintain civilian and military vessels, Sudan’s foreign minister said on Tuesday, as Ankara expands military and economic ties in Africa.

He will now be given the Sudanese island of Suakin, by the Sudanese government. Turkey has agreed to “rebuild” the island, in a meeting in the capital city of Khartoum.

While there are regular normal industrial pursuits, such as that of cotton, the ultimate goal of Turkey’s presents in Sudan is a military one. Erdogan said in his speech, given at the University of Khartoum, that defense industry will be among the major investments that Turkey will make in Sudan.

There is a strategic reason for Turkey to be in the Sudanese island of Suakin, and it has an historical relation. The Ottoman Empire used Suakin, according to one Turkish report, “to secure the Hejaz province — present-day western Saudi Arabia — from attackers using the Red Sea front.”

Turkey is expanding its hegemony in Africa in the name of “rebuilding,” reinvigorating its authority in the Muslim world as a global power. On Tuesday, Erdogan will leave Sudan for a one-day visit to Chad and will then head to Tunisia, where these too will follow in his footsteps.

Ultimately, this is about reviving the Ottoman Empire, and the Sudanese, the Somalis, the Chadians and the Tunisians — that is, the people of Cush — are receiving Turkey in Submission. When Erdogan is seen (see video below) he waves with the sign of the Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt, the Rab’a sign tucking his thumb and waving with only his four fingers to remind the crowds that Egypt is next. Daniel then becomes clear:

He shall have power over the treasures of gold and silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt; also the Libyans and Ethiopians shall follow at his heels. (Daniel 11:43)

We are seeing the people in Sudan already expressing their submission to Turkey.

In his speech in Khartoum, Erdogan painted the “imperialist” West is like a dog hungry for Muslim resources. He vowed to change that status quo saying “every Pharaoh has a Moses to defeat him”. Erdogan painted himself as the Moses. Why? Because Moses defeated Egypt. And now he will be stationing his forces in Suakin, across from the Muslim promised land in Mecca.

Suakin is crucial for it now becomes a military base close to the ports of Qunfudah, the port of Jeddah, the port of Laith, the port of Yanbu in Saudi Arabia, and the ports of Quseir and Safaga in Egypt. This gets Turkey closer to Egypt’s Adam’s apple and tightens the noose around Saudi Arabia especially after the Gulf crisis. Sudan’s relations with Egypt and Saudi Arabia is tense. The four countries (the Emirates, Bahrain, Egypt and Saudi Arabia) tried to pressure Sudan to compel them to stand with them against Qatar. Erdogan made his stand against Saudi Arabia standing with Qatar where Turkish military bases are also established there.

Everything with this expedition has the marks of Ottoman revival. Suakin is the second port of Sudan after Port Sudan, 60 km to the north. The Ottoman Empire used the island of Suakin as a center for its navy in the Red Sea. The port included the seat of the Ottoman governor of the southern Red Sea between 1821 and 1885.

We have asked for the allocation of Suakin Island for a certain time to re-establish it and restore it to its old [Ottoman] roots,” Erdogan said at the end of an economic meeting between Sudanese and Turkish businessmen on the second day of his visit to Sudan.

There is an attachment I will not talk about now,” he said.

But it all becomes obvious. Erdogan visited with his Sudanese counterpart Omar al-Bashir Suakin, where the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) carried out a project to restore the Ottoman ruins, during which the two presidents inspected the customs building and the historic Hanafi and Shafi’i mosques on the island.

And it also brings Erdogan closer to rule over Mecca.  “The Turks who want to go to Umrah (in Mecca, Saudi Arabia) will come to Suakin and then go to Umrah in programmed tourism,” Erdogan said.

Erdogan made it clear that he aims at creating a $10 billion trade volume with Sudan. “Around a $500 million trade volume [in 2016] between the two countries is not enough. In the coming years, it will be $1 billion, but we are targeting $10 billion.”

Erdogan was accompanied by two hundred Turkish businessmen, as well as Turkish officials, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, Education Minister Ismet Yilmaz, Agriculture Minister Ahmet Esref Fakibaba, Energy Minister Berat Albayrak, Culture and Tourism Minister Numan Kurtulmus, Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications Minister Ahmet Arslan, Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci, Defense Minister Nurettin Canikli, Turkish Chief of General Staff Hulusi Aka.

Erdogan said Turkey has invested around $650 million in Sudan, including $300 million worth of direct investments. But he wants to increase this tremendously.

So why the interest in Africa? You cannot have a world war without Africa, with all of its oil, diamonds and other rich resources. Erdogan wants not only the treasures of Egypt, but Africa. Hence why Turkey is expanding its military presence in Africa. The biggest military base in Somalia belongs to Turkey, spanning over four square kilometres and taking two years to construct.  As we read in a report from October of 2017:

Turkey has set up its biggest overseas military base in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, increasing Ankara’s presence in the Horn of Africa country.

Officially opened on Saturday, the base, which reportedly cost $50m, will train 10,000 Somali troops and has the capacity to train at least 1,500 soldiers at a time, according to Turkish and Somali officials.

Hulusi Akar, Turkey’s chief of General Staff, said at the opening ceremony for the military base:

This is the largest training base of its kind outside of Turkey … The government of Turkey and its army will provide all the needed support to our brothers in Somalia”

Sudan has been a place where a number of outside governments have entered to expand their own influences and military industrial hegemonies.

Sudan has been called the “arm’s dump” of Africa. It was a country that had a huge absorption and circulation of arms way before South Sudan succeeded in 2011. When South Sudan did split, there was an estimated 3.2 million small arms being used in that country. In 2010 and 2011, numerous rebel and militia groups began popping up in the Jonglei and Upper Nile states, and the ownership and possession of guns has been precipitously increasing partially due to this.

Former West Germany started a weapons flow into Muslim dominated North Sudan. Germany even built an ammunition factory in Khartoum, which is the capital of North Sudan today. In the 1980s, East Germany (under the Soviet Union) responded to the West German’s distribution of arms into the north, by sending weapons into the more Christian dominated South Sudan. As we read in one report:

Meanwhile, research has shown the international role in weapon supply, with former West Germany introducing automatic small arms in vast numbers to Sudan, which, until then, mainly had old British carbines. West Germany also set up the ammunition factory in Sheggera, Khartoum, in effect, providing the bullets to keep the guns firing. In the 1980s, East Germany responded by supplying the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) with AK47s via Ethiopia. In this way, Cold War animosities were played out in the Greater Horn of Africa.”

In 2009, a major German mercenary group, Asgaard, which is ran by Thomas Kaltegartner, agreed to send one hundred mercenaries to Somalia to back a Somalian warlord named Abdinur Ahmed Darman, and even train his men. According to the German publication, Der Speigel:

Thomas Kaltegärtner, CEO of Asgaard German Security Group, confirmed a report by the German public broadcaster ARD that his company plans to send former German soldiers to Somalia.

In a December 2009 press release, Asgaard announced it had signed an “exclusive agreement on security services” with Abdinur Ahmed Darman. Darman, a Somali warlord who styles himself as the country’s president, does not recognize the legitimacy of the United Nations-backed transitional government of Somali President Sheikh Sharif Sheikh Ahmed. The agreement, the company said, would cover “all necessary measures to reintroduce security and peace to Somalia.” The country has not had a functioning central government since 1991.

According to Kaltegärtner, himself a former Bundeswehr soldier, Asgaard employees would provide security for Darman and train police and military forces. He stressed, however, that combat operations were not planned. He said that over 100 mercenaries could be involved in operations.”

In every world war, Africa is at the center of focus, getting invaded and controlled by foreign militaries.

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N to Hold Reception for Countries Who Snubbed U.N. Jerusalem Resolution

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on December 23, 2017

U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Nikki Haley will hold a reception for the ambassadors of countries who did not support a U.N. General Assembly vote condemning the U.S. for its recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

The invitation to the Jan. 3 reception, a copy of which was obtained by Breitbart News, was sent to the 65 countries who either rejected, abstained from, or declined to vote on the resolution that censured the U.S. for President Trump’s decision to move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem.

The Honorable Nikki R. Haley … invites you to a reception to thank you for your friendship to the United States,” the invite for the Jan. 3 reception says.

The nonbinding resolution, which passed 128-9, expressed “deep regret” at the call made by President Trump, and calls on “all States to refrain from the establishment of diplomatic missions in the Holy City of Jerusalem.” 35 countries abstained and 21 countries did not turn up to vote.

The resolution was sponsored by Turkey and Yemen and came days after the U.S. vetoed a similar resolution at the Security Council. Haley took to the General Assembly floor to blast the U.N. over the vote and to warn countries that the vote “will be remembered.”

We will remember it when we are called upon to once again make the world’s largest contribution to the United Nations and we will remember it when so many countries come calling on us, as they so often do, to pay even more and to use our influence for their benefit,” she warned.

President Trump on Wednesday warned that the U.S intended to pull money from “nations that take our money and vote against us.”

They take hundreds of millions of dollars and even billions of dollars then vote against us, well we’re watching those votes,” he said. “Let them vote against us; we’ll save a lot. We don’t care.”

The reception will likely be seen as symbolic of the Trump administration’s intent to keep note of who is and who is not supporting the U.S. agenda at the U.N.

The aggressive stance over the resolution by the U.S., particularly the funding threat, sparked anger from some diplomats.

We were all asked to vote “no” or face the consequences. Some were even threatened with [a] development aid cut. Such an attitude is unacceptable,” Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu said during the debate on Thursday. “This is bullying and this chamber will not vote to do that.”

Muslim Mob Lays Siege To Christian Church In Egypt

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on December 23, 2017

An Egyptian Coptic Christian diocese says hundreds of Muslim demonstrators have assaulted one of its churches.

The diocese in Atfih said Saturday in a statement that the incident in Giza just outside Cairo took place after Friday prayers when demonstrators gathered outside the building and stormed it.

The demonstrators chanted hostile slogans and called for the church’s demolition, the statement says. It says they destroyed the church’s contents and assaulted Christians inside before security personnel arrived and dispersed them.

It also said the wounded were transferred to a nearby hospital but didn’t elaborate. The church, yet to be sanctioned by the state, has been observing prayers for 15 years.

Coptic Christians make up about 10% of Egypt’s 96 million population. Islamic extremists have targeted them in a sereis of brutal attacks in recent years.

In October, CCTV footage captured the brutal moment a Coptic Orthodox priest was stabbed in the back several times in Egypt’s capital, Cairo.

Father Samaan Shehata was collecting humanitarian aid for his parish in Beni Suef on 12 October when a man started chasing him with a large knife. He died from serious stab wounds in hospital later that day.

In May, at least 29 people were killed when the Islamic State (Isis) terror group attacked a bus heading to the Saint Samuel monastery, near Minya.

Another 29 people were killed when an Isis suicide bomber targeted St Mark’s Coptic Cathedral in Cairo last December.

In February 2015, Isis circulated images of its militants executing 21 Coptic Christians who had been kidnapped from Sirte, Libya. In response, Egypt launched air strikes targeting Isis positions.

Muslim Militants Kill 90 Christians In Nigeria

Christians in central Nigeria face a tense Christmas after the deadliest sectarian violence in the country’s recent history killed at least 90 people, aid workers and Christians say.

Following a period of relative calm, violence resumed in Plateau state with Fulani herdsmen primarily targeting Christian farmers in Nigeria’s Middle Belt. Advocacy group Voice Of the Martyrs Canada (VOMC) quoted experts as saying that the militant Muslim group

“killed more people than those committed previously by the notorious Boko Haram terrorists.”

Time for Christians of This World to Form the Organisation of Christian Cooperation

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on December 22, 2017

My Note: This’s a fascinating thought. I think Ethiopia — as, argueably, the 1st Christian nation in the world, and that has no diabolical agendas or imperial ambitions – is a perfect candidate to take the initiative in forming an Organisation of Christian Cooperation. A historical chance for The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.

[1 John 3:10 ]

This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister.

The OIC Is The Muslim World’s Voice. Christian Countries Should Have One Too

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) bills itself as “the collective voice of the Muslim world.”

Founded in 1972 as the “Organisation of the Islamic Conference” and adopting its current name in 2011, the OIC joins 57 Member States in what is billed as the second-biggest intergovernmental organization after the United Nations. The OIC’s declared mission is —

‘… to safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony among various people of the world…. The Organization has the singular honor to galvanize the Ummah [i.e., all Muslims as a community] into a unified body and have actively represented the Muslims by espousing all causes close to the hearts of over 1.5 billion Muslims of the world.

The Organization has consultative and cooperative relations with the UN and other intergovernmental organizations to protect the vital interests of the Muslims and to work for the settlement of conflicts and disputes involving Member States. In safeguarding the true values of Islam and the Muslims, the organization has taken various steps to remove misperceptions and has strongly advocated elimination of discrimination against Muslims in all forms and manifestations.’

Despite intra-Islamic conflicts – notably the Sunni-Shiite divide led by Saudi Arabia and Iran respectively – the OIC is vocal in promoting a unified Muslim perspective on issues where there is a broad consensus. For example, the OIC recently issued a strong statement denouncing U.S. President Donald Trump’s declaration that the United States considers Jerusalem to be Israel’s capital. The OIC’s information chief also took a position on the internal affairs of traditionally Christian European countries, to the effect that mass Muslim migration – what Srdja Trifkovic has called the Third Muslim Invasion – is really doing Europe a big favor. No, it’s no bother at all – we’ll just help ourselves!

Whatever one thinks of the OIC’s activities and perspectives on various issues, one should nonetheless commend Muslim countries for their activism. Keep in mind, the OIC is an official organization of governments in the Islamic world, not of religious, academic, or NGO activists, though the latter contribute to the OIC’s mission. Again, give credit where credit is due.

But where is the comparable activism by the governments of Christian countries? There is certainly an ample empirical basis for a Christian version of the OIC. Consider:

There are almost two and half billion Christians in the world. The number of Muslims is about 1.8 billion. Granted, the reality behind such numbers largely reflects formal identification rather than active belief and worship, but the social importance of even pro forma self-description or communal tradition should not be dismissed.

  • Approximately 120 sovereign states have a Christian majority.

  • This compares to about 50 countries with a Muslim majority.

There are four countries formally called Islamic republics (Afghanistan, Iran, Mauritania, and Pakistan), plus approximately 20 others where Islam’s leading status is defined in law. For example, Article 2 of the Constitution of Oman states that “The religion of the State is Islam and Islamic Sharia is the basis for legislation”; Article 1 of the Basic Law of Saudi Arabia states that the kingdom “is a sovereign Arab Islamic state with Islam as its religion,” with the Sunni Wahhabist sect in practice given preeminence over the minority Shia. By contrast, because of Christianity’s inherent distinction between the kingdom of God and the kingdom of Caesar, it would be hard to envision comparable “Christian states,” though the Holy See (the Vatican) is a Christian theocracy. Nor is there a Christian counterpart to Sharia as a religious basis for civil law. Nonetheless there are approximately 30 states where Christianity, or a particular Christian church, is singled out for a unique legal status or described as the traditional or leading faith. These include the Church of England, the Lutheran churches in Scandinavia, the Orthodox churches of Greece and Georgia, and the Roman Catholic Church in Argentina (Constitution, Article 2: “The Federal Government supports the Roman Catholic Apostolic religion.”), Costa Rica, Panama, Malta, Monaco, Liechtenstein, and others. For example, the Lateran Treaties regulating relations with the Vatican are affirmed in the Italian Constitution (Article 7). The Constitution of Georgia states (Article 9(1)) that “State shall recognise the outstanding role of the Apostolic Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Georgia in the history of Georgia and its independence from the State.” Several other states grant de facto primacy to a church without formal legal sanction, with the primacy accorded the Russian Orthodox Church a notable example. Finally there are many secular countries where Christian morality and heritage are central to national identity and state policy. Even the United States once prided itself on calling itself a Christian nation, in substance if not in law, in the words of many prominent statesmen well into the 20th century.

The flags of about 20 countries include specifically Islamic symbols, either the crescent moon or the shahada statement of faith (notably on the flag of Saudi Arabia). About 30 national flags carry a depiction of the Christian cross, with an additional dozen or so if naval ensigns are counted (for example the Saint Andrew’s cross on the flags of the Russian and Belgian fleets, and the Saint George’s cross on the ensigns of India, South Africa, Latvia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Trinidad and Tobago, and others whose civil flags do not display a cross).

What would be the purpose of a Christian version of the OIC? (For purposes of discussion, let’s call it the “Organisation of Christian Cooperation,” or the OCC.) Let’s take a leaf from the OIC and paraphrase: the mission of the OCC would be to –

“… protect the vital interests of Christians and to work for the settlement of conflicts and disputes involving Member States. In safeguarding the true values of Christianity and Christians, the OCC will take various steps to remove misperceptions and strongly advocate elimination of discrimination against Christians in all forms and manifestations.”

That would be a pretty good start, wouldn’t it? We could perhaps begin inside some of the nominally Christian countries, like the United Kingdom, where a spokesman for the government of Prime Minister Theresa May recently refused to confirm that publicly affirming the divinity of Jesus Christ could not land a person in jail for “hate speech.” The notion that simple expression of Christian belief and adherence to Christian moral principles, notably in the area of sexuality, constitutes hate has become a global phenomenon. No other religion’s believers are routinely defamed in this way.

Of course, as with the OIC a prospective OCC could and should be vocal on international issues. Starting in the 1990s, it began to be apparent even in polite, secular company that persecution of Christians was rampant in some countries, and that indeed more Christians died for their faith in the 20th century alone than in all the 19 centuries preceding it.

To come to grips with anti-Christian persecution, the U.S. Congress enacted the 1998 International Religious Freedom Act, which in implementation unfortunately soon veered towards promoting generic “religious liberty” and away from countering actual persecution – chiefly of Christians at the hands of communist regimes (mainly in the past) and Muslim militants (now).

Perhaps Christian persecution would be a good topic for an Organisation of Christian Cooperation to raise with the OIC, asking it as an intergovernmental organization to take forceful action to “remove misperceptions” that Islam is intolerant by insisting that all persecution of and discrimination against Christians by Muslims cease!

After all, even the Administration of President Barack Obama, who proudly declared that the U.S. was no longer “just” a Christian nation, was eventually shamed into declaring that the Islamic State was committing genocide against Christians in Iraq and Syria (though Secretary of State John Kerry took care to put Yazidis first, and then added Shia Muslims and others to avoid any appearance of caring about Christians in particular). In “safeguarding the true values of Islam and the Muslims” the OIC rarely has taken note of maltreatment of Christians. If an OCC comes into being, it must vigorously champion persecuted Christians.

Another example where Member States of a future OCC could make a positive contribution is help with postwar reconstruction in Syria, including the rebuilding of churches. The Russian government has pledged its assistance with the participation of the Orthodox Church and religious organizations. Why shouldn’t other Christian countries pitch in – not just in generic reconstruction aid but specifically to help maintain Christians in the region where Christianity was born? This kind of effort would be relevant not only in Syria but across the Middle East.

Which countries might be candidates to join a hypothetical Organisation of Christian Cooperation?

Again, let’s look at the OIC, the membership of which mainly consists of countries with a Muslim majority but also includes eight countries where Muslims are a minority: Ivory Coast, Gabon, Guyana, Mozambique, Nigeria, Suriname, Togo, and Uganda. Russia and Thailand, which are majority Christian and Buddhist respectively but have significant Muslim minorities, are OIC Observers. Thus a future OCC should not only welcome all majority Christian countries – including some that may also belong to the OIC – but others where Christians are numerically or socially significant.

For example, while South Korea is only about one-third Christian, Christians form a solid majority of that country’s citizens participating in organized religious activities. About thirty countries in sub-Saharan Africa would be obvious OCC Member State candidates, as would virtually all of Latin America. China and India, where Christian minorities outnumber the total populations of many majority-Christian countries, should certainly be welcomed as Members or Observers. Paradoxically, the main reluctance is likely to be found among such historically Christian countries as Britain, France, Germany, the Low Countries, Scandinavia, and – alas! – the U.S. and Canada, where the forces of militant secularism have become increasingly intolerant of any indication of Christian public identity among officialdom.

That leaves the question of which states might take the initiative in forming an Organisation of Christian Cooperation.

The Vatican would be an obvious key player but might not want to take the lead to avoid perceptions that the OCC might become a mechanism for Roman Catholic influence. The same could be said for Russia, whose leadership could be taken to be a front for Russia’s narrow state interests. But it should be noted that both the Holy See and the Kremlin have indicated their willingness to partner in defense of Europe’s historic Christian identity and social mores. What is notable is that this is state-to-state discourse, not just religious dialogue between the Roman Catholic and Russian Orthodox churches.

Perhaps the most promising current trend is the revival of national traditions that incorporate Christian consciousness in Central Europe. For example, Poland’s new Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has declared: “My dream is to make [Europe] Christian again, since unfortunately, in many places, people no longer sing Christmas carols, the churches are empty and are turning into museums, and this is very sad.” Likewise, Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán (a Protestant in a majority Roman Catholic country) has spoken out boldly and eloquently in defense of the Christian character of his own country but of Europe as a whole, as well as of Christians persecuted in the Middle East:

A great many times over the course of our history we Hungarians have had to fight to remain Christian and Hungarian. For centuries we fought on our homeland’s southern borders, defending the whole of Christian Europe, while in the twentieth century we were the victims of the communist dictatorship’s persecution of Christians. … For us, therefore, it is today a cruel, absurd joke of fate for us to be once again living our lives as members of a community under siege. For wherever we may live around the world – whether we’re Roman Catholics, Protestants, Orthodox Christians or Copts – we are members of a common body, and of a single, diverse and large community.

Our mission is to preserve and protect this community. … Today it is a fact that Christianity is the world’s most persecuted religion. It is a fact that 215 million Christians in 108 countries around the world are suffering some form of persecution. It is a fact that four out of every five people oppressed due to their religion are Christians. It is a fact that in Iraq in 2015 a Christian was killed every five minutes because of their religious belief. It is a fact that we see little coverage of these events in the international press, and it is also a fact that one needs a magnifying glass to find political statements condemning the persecution of Christians.

But the world’s attention needs to be drawn to the crimes that have been committed against Christians in recent years. The world should understand that in fact today’s persecutions of Christians foreshadow global processes. The world should understand that the forced expulsion of Christian communities and the tragedies of families and children living in some parts of the Middle East and Africa have a wider significance: in fact they threaten our European values. The world should understand that what is at stake today is nothing less than the future of the European way of life, and of our identity.’

As the neo-liberal international order (symbolized by twin EU and NATO bureaucratic centers in Brussels) continue their decline, a revival of the national – and dare we hope, Christian? – spirit may be possible even in Europe. Such a revival could be an important impetus to creating an Organisation of Christian Cooperation, and in turn an OCC could help encourage that revival. This is not to minimize historic animosities even among Christians. The Polish-Russian and Croatian-Serbian enmities come readily to mind.

But if Iranians and Saudis can come together when the practical needs of Muslims per se require it, can Christians do any less? Does Christianity’s Founder, Who commanded His followers to love one another, expect any less from us? Perhaps an OCC could itself become a catalyst for reconciliation among Christians as much as a voice within the global community.

We can maybe even dare to hope that the United States is not quite lost. After all, Barack Hussein Obama is out, Donald John Trump is in. He’s even told Americans it’s alright to say “Merry Christmas!” again. If an Organisation of Christian Cooperation were to be formed, Melania Trump would make a great honorary patroness!

No African State Should Sign This Resolution on Thursday 12/21/2017 – After What the Arabs Did to Fellow Africans in Libya

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on December 20, 2017

These wicked nations who waged genocide on black Africans in Libya — and who are selling Africans again as slaves like they did thousand years ago — should never be supported. To support a draft resolution rejecting President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, set for a General Assembly vote Thursday is a huge shame, and a crime against Africans.

Turkey and Yemen requested the urgent meeting of the 193-nation forum on behalf of the Arab group of countries and the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) after the US vetoed the measure in the Security Council. The two countries circulated a draft resolution that mirrors the vetoed measure, reaffirming that any decision on the status of Jerusalem has no legal effect and must be rescinded.

Egypt had put forward the draft, which was backed by all 14 other Security Council members in a vote on Monday. Like the Egyptian draft, the text before the assembly does not explicitly mention Trump’s decision but expresses “deep regret at recent decisions concerning the status of Jerusalem.”
