Teenage Devil Worshipper Scrawls 666 Across Veil ‘touched By Jesus’

A DEVIL worshipper scrawled a satanic message over a priceless artefact in Spain that is thought to show the face of Jesus Christ.

The Satanist wrote the number 666 across the glass housing the ‘veil of Veronica’ at the Monastery of the Holy Face (Monasterio de la Santa Faz’) in Alicante.

Police said that the suspect, a 17-year-old, marked the artefact with seven crosses on the armoured glass which protects it while she also left the mark of an upside down cross.

Authorities said surveillance footage showed that the suspect hid in the church overnight on Saturday to vandalise the property.

She then slipped out of the church the next morning unnoticed when it opened for religious services.

The teenager was found out after she was caught on surveillance tape inside the church, according to Spanish newspaper Diario Informacion.

The report said the Chaplain and the person in charge of the monastery found the vandal’s marks at 7.35am after she left.

However, the glass covering the relic was not broken.

The priceless item that was targeted is an armoured urn thought to contain the shrouds that Veronica used to dry the face of Jesus Christ on his way to Mount Cavalry.

The teenager committed the crime in a monastery popular with religious pilgrims who enjoy looking at the artefacts.

More than 200,000 religious pilgrims make the 7.5km journey from San Nicolas Cathedral to the monastery every second Thursday after Holy week.

Police have arrested the 17-year-old for the crime.

Jesús Murgui, the Bishop of Orihuela-Alicante, said he is praying for the culprit.

He asked that “the deplorable circumstances not be to the detriment of the love and the devotion that we feel toward this age-old relic of the Holy Face”.
