It is with gratitude to God that we congratulate on the election of Archbishop of Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahdo Church (EOTC) in Jerusalem, Abune Mathias as the 6th patriarch.
We were aware of your striving towards unity and love among the Ethiopian and other Christian communities in the Holy land, and we pray that your election, in these uncertain times, will be strong in the quest for the welfare and strength of our Mother Church and its ever dedicated flock
We pray for peaceful and harmonious time to accompany our Holy Church
May God multiply the fruits of love entrusted to you. “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth” (Matthew 5:5).

የኢትዮጵ ኦርቶዶክስ ተዋሕዶ ቤተ ክርስቲያን 6ኛውን ፓትርያርክ መረጠች
ዛሬ ከጧት ጀምሮ የኢትዮጵያ ኦርቶዶክስ ተዋሕዶ ቤተ ክርስቲያን 6ኛውን ፓትርያርክ ለመምረጥ በተደረገው ሂደት መሠረት 806 መራጮች ድምጽ የሰጡ ሲሆን ከሰዓት በኋላ በተደረገው ድምጽ ቆጠራ ብፁዕ አቡነ ማትያስ በኢየሩሳሌም የኢትዮጵያ ገዳማት ሊቀ ጳጳስ በ500 ድምጽ በመመረጥ የመጀመሪያውን ድምጽ በማግኘት 6ኛው ፓትርያርክ ሆነዋል፡፡ ብፁዕ አቡነ ኤልሳዕ 39 ድምጽ፤ ብፁዕ አቡነ ዮሴፍ 98 ድምጽ፤ ብፁዕ አቡነ ማቴዎስ 98 ድምጽ፤ ብፁዕ አቡነ ሕዝቅኤል 70 ድምጽ በማምጣት ምርጫው ተጠናቋል፡፡ አንደ ድምፅ በትክክል ባለመሞላቱ ውድቅ ሆኗል፡፡
ፓትርያርክ ሆነው የተመረጡት ብፁዕ አቡነ ማትያስ በመጨረሻ ባስተላለፉት መልእክት “ከእግዚአብሔርና ከሕዝበ ክርስቲያኑ የተሰጠኝን አደራ ለመወጣት ከብፁዓን አባቶች፣ ካህናትና ከምእመናን ጋር አብረን ስንለምንሠራ ሥራው የቀለለ ይሁናል ብዬ አምናለሁ” ብለዋል፡፡
