Mercury Danger in Soap in sub-Saharan Africa

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on January 30, 2013

Skin lightener

MercurySoapSeveral brands of soap with high contents of mercury are sold in Africa south of the Saha-ra. The real purpose of mercury in these pro-ducts is to make black skin and hair lighter, although the labels on the soaps often state that they are germicidal. According to their labels some of the soaps are manufactured in Europe, e.g. the UK and Italy. The skin ligh-teners are exported to various African coun-tries and distributed in sub-Saharan Africa where they can be bought on local markets. Some of these mercury-rich soaps are smuggled back into the European Union and can be bought in in hairdressers shops. The distribution of soaps containing mercury is, according to WHO, banned in many African countries, in the EU and North America.

Mercury content

These soaps contain high amounts of mer-cury. Often the amount of mercury in the soap is written on the label, but in some cases the label syas nothing about how much mercury the soap contains.

The mercury contents in a few soaps from Ghana have recently been analysed. The labels of Crusader and Moore stated that they contain mercury, whereas mercury was not mentioned on the label of Silver Rose.

30 Quotes From Western Elite On Population Control

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on January 30, 2013

PopulationCThere is a clear consensus among the global elite that overpopulation is the primary cause of the most important problems that the world is facing and that something desperately needs to be done about it.

They truly believe that humans are a plague upon the earth and that we will literally destroy the planet if we are left to our own devices.  To the elite, everything from global warming to our growing economic problems can be directly traced back to the lack of population control. They warn that if nothing is done about the exploding population, we will be facing a future full of poverty, war and suffering on a filthy, desolate planet.

They complain that it “costs too much” to keep elderly patients that are terminally ill alive, and they eagerly promote abortion for babies that are “not wanted” because they would be “too much of a burden” on society.  Anything that reduces the human population in any way is a good thing for those that believe in this philosophy.  This twisted philosophy is being promoted in our movies, in our television shows, in our music, in countless books, on many of the most prominent websites in the world, and it is being taught at nearly all of the most important colleges and universities on the planet.

The people promoting this philosophy have very, very deep pockets, and they are actually convinced that they are helping to “save the world” by trying to reduce the size of the human population.  In fact, many of them are entirely convinced that we are in a “life or death” struggle for the fate of the planet, and that if humanity does not willingly choose to embrace population control soon, then a solution will have to be “forced” upon them.

Yes, I know that all of this may sound like something out of a science fiction novel.  But there are a whole lot of people out there that are absolutely obsessed with this stuff, and many of them are in very prominent positions around the globe.

The following are 30 population control quotes which show that the elite truly believe that humans are a plague upon the earth and that a great culling is necessary…

1. UK Television Presenter Sir David Attenborough: “We are a plague on the Earth. It’s coming home to roost over the next 50 years or so. It’s not just climate change; it’s sheer space, places to grow food for this enormous horde. Either we limit our population growth or the natural world will do it for us, and the natural world is doing it for us right now”

2. Paul Ehrlich, a former science adviser to president George W. Bush and the author of “The Population Bomb”: “To our minds, the fundamental cure, reducing the scale of the human enterprise (including the size of the population) to keep its aggregate consumption within the carrying capacity of Earth is obvious but too much neglected or denied”

3. Paul Ehrlich again, this time on the size of families: “Nobody, in my view, has the right to have 12 children or even three unless the second pregnancy is twins”

4. Dave Foreman, the co-founder of Earth First: “We humans have become a disease, the Humanpox.”

5. CNN Founder Ted Turner: “A total world population of 250-300 million people, a 95% decline from present levels, would be ideal.”

6. Japan’s Deputy Prime Minister Taro Aso about medical patients with serious illnesses: “You cannot sleep well when you think it’s all paid by the government. This won’t be solved unless you let them hurry up and die.”

7. David Rockefeller: “The negative impact of population growth on all of our planetary ecosystems is becoming appallingly evident.”

8. Environmental activist Roger Martin: “On a finite planet, the optimum population providing the best quality of life for all, is clearly much smaller than the maximum, permitting bare survival. The more we are, the less for each; fewer people mean better lives.”

9. HBO personality Bill Maher: “I’m pro-choice, I’m for assisted suicide, I’m for regular suicide, I’m for whatever gets the freeway moving – that’s what I’m for. It’s too crowded, the planet is too crowded and we need to promote death.”

10. MIT professor Penny Chisholm: ”The real trick is, in terms of trying to level off at someplace lower than that 9 billion, is to get the birthrates in the developing countries to drop as fast as we can. And that will determine the level at which humans will level off on earth.”

11. Julia Whitty, a columnist for Mother Jones: “The only known solution to ecological overshoot is to decelerate our population growth faster than it’s decelerating now and eventually reverse it—at the same time we slow and eventually reverse the rate at which we consume the planet’s resources. Success in these twin endeavors will crack our most pressing global issues: climate change, food scarcity, water supplies, immigration, health care, biodiversity loss, even war. On one front, we’ve already made unprecedented strides, reducing global fertility from an average 4.92 children per woman in 1950 to 2.56 today—an accomplishment of trial and sometimes brutally coercive error, but also a result of one woman at a time making her individual choices. The speed of this childbearing revolution, swimming hard against biological programming, rates as perhaps our greatest collective feat to date.”

12. Colorado State University Professor Philip Cafaro in a paper entitled “Climate Ethics and Population Policy”: “Ending human population growth is almost certainly a necessary (but not sufficient) condition for preventing catastrophic global climate change. Indeed, significantly reducing current human numbers may be necessary in order to do so.

13. Professor of Biology at the University of Texas at Austin Eric R. Pianka: “I do not bear any ill will toward people. However, I am convinced that the world, including all humanity, WOULD clearly be much better off without so many of us.”

14. Detroit News Columnist Nolan Finley: “Since the national attention is on birth control, here’s my idea: If we want to fight poverty, reduce violent crime and bring down our embarrassing drop-out rate, we should swap contraceptives for fluoride in Michigan’s drinking water.

We’ve got a baby problem in Michigan. Too many babies are born to immature parents who don’t have the skills to raise them, too many are delivered by poor women who can’t afford them, and too many are fathered by sorry layabouts who spread their seed like dandelions and then wander away from the consequences.”

15. John Guillebaud, professor of family planning at University College London: “The effect on the planet of having one child less is an order of magnitude greater than all these other things we might do, such as switching off lights. An extra child is the equivalent of a lot of flights across the planet.”

16. Democrat strategist Steven Rattner: “WE need death panels. Well, maybe not death panels, exactly, but unless we start allocating health care resources more prudently — rationing, by its proper name — the exploding cost of Medicare will swamp the federal budget.”

17. Matthew Yglesias, a business and economics correspondent for Slate, in an article entitled “The Case for Death Panels, in One Chart”: “But not only is this health care spending on the elderly the key issue in the federal budget, our disproportionate allocation of health care dollars to old people surely accounts for the remarkable lack of apparent cost effectiveness of the American health care system. When the patient is already over 80, the simple fact of the matter is that no amount of treatment is going to work miracles in terms of life expectancy or quality of life.”

18. Planned Parenthood Founder Margaret Sanger: “All of our problems are the result of overbreeding among the working class”

19. U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg: “Frankly I had thought that at the time Roe was decided, there was concern about population growth and particularly growth in populations that we don’t want to have too many of.”

20. Planned Parenthood Founder Margaret Sanger: “The most merciful thing that the large family does to one of its infant members is to kill it.”

21. Salon columnist Mary Elizabeth Williams in an article entitled “So What If Abortion Ends Life?”: “All life is not equal. That’s a difficult thing for liberals like me to talk about, lest we wind up looking like death-panel-loving, kill-your-grandma-and-your-precious-baby storm troopers. Yet a fetus can be a human life without having the same rights as the woman in whose body it resides.”

22. Alberto Giubilini of Monash University in Melbourne, Australia and Francesca Minerva of the University of Melbourne in a paper published in the Journal of Medical Ethics: “[W]hen circumstances occur after birth such that they would have justified abortion, what we call after-birth abortion should be permissible. … [W]e propose to call this practice ‘after-birth abortion’, rather than ‘infanticide,’ to emphasize that the moral status of the individual killed is comparable with that of a fetus … rather than to that of a child.  Therefore, we claim that killing a newborn could be ethically permissible in all the circumstances where abortion would be. Such circumstances include cases where the newborn has the potential to have an (at least) acceptable life, but the well-being of the family is at risk.”

23. Nina Fedoroff, a key adviser to Hillary Clinton: “We need to continue to decrease the growth rate of the global population; the planet can’t support many more people.”

24. Barack Obama’s primary science adviser, John P. Holdren: “A program of sterilizing women after their second or third child, despite the relatively greater difficulty of the operation than vasectomy, might be easier to implement than trying to sterilize men.

The development of a long-term sterilizing capsule that could be implanted under the skin and removed when pregnancy is desired opens additional possibilities for coercive fertility control. The capsule could be implanted at puberty and might be removable, with official permission, for a limited number of births.”

25. David Brower, the first Executive Director of the Sierra Club: “Childbearing [should be] a punishable crime against society, unless the parents hold a government license … All potential parents [should be] required to use contraceptive chemicals, the government issuing antidotes to citizens chosen for childbearing.”

26. Thomas Ferguson, former official in the U.S. State Department Office of Population Affairs: “There is a single theme behind all our work–we must reduce population levels. Either governments do it our way, through nice clean methods, or they will get the kinds of mess that we have in El Salvador, or in Iran or in Beirut. Population is a political problem. Once population is out of control, it requires authoritarian government, even fascism, to reduce it…”

27. Mikhail Gorbachev: “We must speak more clearly about sexuality, contraception, about abortion, about values that control population, because the ecological crisis, in short, is the population crisis. Cut the population by 90% and there aren’t enough people left to do a great deal of ecological damage.”

28. Jacques Costeau: “In order to stabilize world population, we must eliminate 350,000 people per day. It is a horrible thing to say, but it is just as bad not to say it.”

29. Finnish environmentalist Pentti Linkola: “If there were a button I could press, I would sacrifice myself without hesitating if it meant millions of people would die”

30. Prince Phillip, husband of Queen Elizabeth II and co-founder of the World Wildlife Fund: “In the event that I am reincarnated, I would like to return as a deadly virus, in order to contribute something to solve overpopulation.”

Britain’s Attenborugh: Ethiopians Are Plague on Earth

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on January 24, 2013

My note: “Legendary” British television presenter and former senior manager at the BBC, Attenborough (He doesn’t deserve the “David” part) says humans are a plague on the Earth and the only way to save the planet is to limit population growth – and he used Ethiopia as an example.

Mr Attenborough who is on his way “unlegending” himself was in Ethiopia several times – and wherever he went yet he has always been welcomed with respect, warmth and love of the highest degree, yet he seems either to be incapable of learning or he is simply the devils-advocate by advocating Nazism, eugenics, racial cleansing, mass murder and

Mr. Attenborough who seems to have fallen under the sinister Malthusian spell probably went to Ethiopia to contribute to the creation of artificial famines and epidemics – in order to promulgate this sort of insidious propaganda which is nothing but a facade for global genocide. After this, every element of his lifetime body of work will become suspect, as he sounds more like the usual eugenicist who exemplifies the mindset of the murderous criminal class who deem themselves the enlightened ones who spew this sort of vitriolic lies.

Whether they like it or not, the Truth will prevail, When the truth finally comes out and it will soon, we will watch for the usual suspects who will all claim they knew nothing about it and profess the usual innocence.

Ethiopia has 5 times the area of the UK with less than 1.5 times the population – hence less than 1/3 the population density of the UK, a British/European individual consumes 35 times per-capita the resources of the poorest 25% of the world’s population. yet, these so-called experts tell us how many of us are are allowed to live for nature’s sake.

These ideas have been used to eliminate entire races and we know who the targets were. They represent sad days in human history. It is marvelous to see many people are waking up to this insane world we live in, run by lunatics who control every facet of our lives including the media. May genocide never happens again.

The only plague is mankind who now worships the creation rather than the Creator

The television presenter said that humans are threatening their own existence and that of other species by using up the world’s resources.

He said the only way to save the planet from famine and species extinction is to limit human population growth.

“We are a plague on the Earth. It’s coming home to roost over the next 50 years or so. It’s not just climate change; it’s sheer space, places to grow food for this enormous horde. Either we limit our population growth or the natural world will do it for us, and the natural world is doing it for us right now,” he told the Radio Times.

Sir David, who is a patron of the Population Matters, has spoken out before about the “frightening explosion in human numbers” and the need for investment in sex education and other voluntary means of limiting population in developing countries.

“We keep putting on programmes about famine in Ethiopia; that’s what’s happening. Too many people there. They can’t support themselves — and it’s not an inhuman thing to say. It’s the case. Until humanity manages to sort itself out and get a coordinated view about the planet it’s going to get worse and worse.”

Uruguay’s Jose Mujica: The world’s ‘Poorest’ president

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on January 21, 2013

My note: Simplemente, guay! This is how leaders should behave toward the nation they are supposed to serve. An individual is successful in life when he/she is competent and modest at the same time. Good-for-nothing, morally irresponsible leaders like the Kenyan Prime Minister, Raila Odinga – who on several occations expressed anti-Ethiopian sentiments – is the third highest paid politician in the world, higher than President Obama. Obama’s father is descended from the same Luo tribe of Kenya as Mr Odinga, and his half-brother may run for President of Kenya in 2018

jose-mujicaIt’s a common grumble that politicians’ lifestyles are far removed from those of their electorate. Not so in Uruguay. Meet the president – who lives on a ramshackle farm and gives away most of his pay.

Laundry is strung outside the house. The water comes from a well in a yard, overgrown with weeds. Only two police officers and Manuela, a three-legged dog, keep watch outside.

This is the residence of the president of Uruguay, Jose Mujica, whose lifestyle clearly differs sharply from that of most other world leaders.

President Mujica has shunned the luxurious house that the Uruguayan state provides for its leaders and opted to stay at his wife’s farmhouse, off a dirt road outside the capital, Montevideo.

The president and his wife work the land themselves, growing flowers.

This austere lifestyle – and the fact that Mujica donates about 90% of his monthly salary, equivalent to $12,000 (£7,500), to charity – has led him to be labelled the poorest president in the world.

Out of Africa – Did the Colonial Powers Ever Really Leave?

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on January 21, 2013

AfricaMap

Africa may have achieved independence, but the old colonial ties are still important as France’s decision to send troops to Mali to fight Islamist extremists shows. The old colonial powers in Africa may no longer be the rulers, but they still exert influence and have strong economic and political links. David McDonald, professor of the Global Development Studies at Queen’s University, says, “The French and the English were much more strategic in terms of recognizing that they wanted to maintain neo-colonial linkages with their former colonies. So it was shedding the direct authoritarian power at the barrel of a gun and replacing that with independence, but an independence that was, and is still to some extent, extremely dependent on the political and economic will of the former colonial masters.”

America, The Saudi Arabia of Tomorrow

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on January 20, 2013

My note: Less money for the Saudis more chance for justice; this is music to Ethiopian ears.

USaudiWe pay a lot of attention to revolutions when they emerge suddenly and violently, but when a transformation arrives gradually and peacefully it’s easy to miss.

Let’s stop for a moment and take a look at a slow-motion development changing the world as we know it: The United States is giving up its addiction to foreign oil.

For decades, we bemoaned the awful toll this addiction has taken. The need for oil and natural gas — much of it from Middle Eastern dictatorships — shaped the foundation of global geopolitics. It created morally questionable alliances and repeatedly placed Washington in a position to choose between its fundamental values and its economic interests. Now all that could change.

Mysterious Ethiopia: Gurdjieff & Abyssinia

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on January 16, 2013

the-fourth-way-enneagram

George Ivanovich Gurdjieff (1872 – 1949)

My note: He was by any account one of the most remarkable men the human race has produced.

His name was George Ivanovich Gurdjieff (pronounced “gur-jeef” or “gur-jeff”), and he proved to be one of the most challenging, paradoxical, and enigmatic spiritual teachers of our time. He is chiefly remembered for imparting, through the most extraordinary and difficult methods, the fundamentals of an esoteric system known as the Fourth Way – also called, austerely, “the Work.” “Fourth Way” author William Patterson postulates that Gurdjieff’s teachings can be traced to prehistoric Egypt, where it was transmitted from Abyssinia (Ethiopia).

I don’t support the teaching/position of Gurdjieff on “universal spirituality”, yet his philosophical thoughts are simply mind blowing.

Among some of the distinctions that I was able to make between individual Eastern European / Orthodox Christian thinkers/travelers/explorers and Western European or Asian thinkers/travelers/explorers is that the European Orthodox Christian ones (Gurdjieff, Vavilov, Ouspensky, Bulatovich) go down to countries like Ethiopia not to glorify their individual-selves or nations, rather to learn, to satisfy their curiosity, with a principal aim to expand their horizon, to study and practice new ideas – to search for the truth, and later herald it to the wider world. Whereas, most Western, Arab, Chinese or Indian (except Kerela’s Orthodox Christian Indians) scholars sneak into countries like Ethiopia mainly, either to express their empty superiority complex, or to steal ancient manuscripts (e.g. James Bruce), animals, crops and minerals, or to steal human-souls. The demons of their racially motivated Eurocentrism, Sinocentrism, Indocentrism or Arabocentrism don’t allow them to go and search for the truth, as a consequence, humanity is forced to be taken as their hostage. We are warned by the Bible of these thieves who come only to steal and kill and destroy. Mind you, thieves like James Bruce and fascist murderers like Graziani still are celebrated as heroes in their respective Britain and Italy. Just ridiculous!

are celebrated as heroes

Fascinating stuff!

From Thebes we traveled up the Nile to its source, and went on into Abyssinia, where we stayed for three months; and then coming out to the Red Sea we passed through, and finally reached the ruins of Babylon.” This is the whole of the account that Mr. Gurdjieff gives of his and Professor Skridlov’s trip to Abyssinia, modern day Ethiopia and Eritrea. One could be forgiven for not placing much importance on it. Compared to what Gurdjieff writes about his treks through the Hindu Kush in Meetings with Remarkable Men, his trip to Ethiopia would appear to have been uneventful. But could this be an instance where Gurdjieff buried the dog, that is, purposefully hid his sources?

Said J.G. Bennett, “I do know that Ethiopia was very important to him because to the very end of his life he spoke with great love for Ethiopia. Once he said he thought of going to spend the rest of his days there. He said that the two places where he felt he had ties were one, Central Asia, that is, Bokhara, and the other is Ethiopia…. His visits to Ethiopia formed quite an important part of his total searches.”

Bennett seems to indicate multiple visits to Ethiopia occurred. Obviously Gurdjieff found something extremely valuable there. Was it a school? Gurdjieff once told Solita Solano that he was initiated into the Egyptian Mysteries four times. Did this occur in Ethiopia? Before investigating what Gurdjieff found in Ethiopia, the question of what caused him to go there in the first place should be addressed.

What would have drawn Gurdjieff to Ethiopia? To this day most historians would argue that there is very little of cultural or historical importance in Ethiopia. In recent decades this Eurocentric view has begun to be refuted, but in Gurdjieff’s time historians firmly believed that anything of value in Ethiopia was brought there by other people. This backwards view of Ethiopia persists even today and is best described by historian Amadou-Mahtar M’Bow, “In writing the history of a large part of Africa, the only sources used were from outside the continent, and the final product gave a picture not so much of the paths actually taken by the African peoples as of those that the authors thought they must have taken.” Regardless of what his contemporaries thought, Gurdjieff would have found numerous indications of Ethiopia’s actual historical role in his pursuit of ancient knowledge.

Magnetic Ethiopia

Perhaps Gurdjieff went to Ethiopia in order to understand what drew Moses there. Moses married an Ethiopian queen and, according to the early Jewish historian Josephus, this happened on a military expedition in Ethiopia. But much more surprising is the Jewish oral tradition which states that Moses spent 40 years in Ethiopia. This only begins to make sense if we accept that Moses was between 120 and 140 years old when he died.

Similarly, Mohammed married a woman whose dowry was provided by the king of Ethiopia. While there is no record of Mohammed going to Ethiopia, he was nursed by an Ethiopian woman, and Mohammed’s maternal grandfather, who raised him, frequently traveled to Ethiopia. It is not too far of a reach to imagine Mohammed accompanying his grandfather on one of these trips, especially since Mohammed would later send a number of his family and followers to Ethiopia for refuge. It is also interesting to note that according to Plutarch when Set betrayed Osiris he was assisted by the Ethiopian queen Aso.

Was Gurdjieff seeking the legendary Christian kingdom of Prester John that played such a role in the Grail myth, the legendary kingdom that Medieval Europe put such great hope in for assistance in the Crusades and the fight against the Mongols?

Possibly Gurdjieff was researching an astrological clue. The constellations Cepheus and Cassiopeia, mythical king and queen of Ethiopia, circle around the pole star without ever dipping below the horizon. In addition to having such an exalted place in the heavens, the constellations of Andromeda, Perseus, Pegasus and Cetus all play supporting roles in these stellar myths of Ethiopia. What is it about Ethiopia that enshrined it so prominently in the stars?

The Book of Enoch Rediscovered

Perhaps Gurdjieff was trying to track down the Book of Enoch and the people who had preserved it. The Book of Enoch was lost to the world except for a few fragments in Greek. But in 1768 the Scottish Mason James Bruce traveled up the Nile into Ethiopia and stole an illuminated manuscript of the Book of Enoch from an Ethiopian monastery. It took over 50 years for the first translation to be published in 1821.

Certainly Gurdjieff knew of the Book of Enoch and he must have had a general idea of its contents, but had he read it prior to traveling to Ethiopia? There is no indication that the book was translated into a language that Gurdjieff read, but recall that Gurdjieff’s friend Abram Yelov was a master of languages and spoke English. In fact, Gurdjieff discusses his search for ancient books in Meetings with Remarkable Men. Gurdjieff met Yelov in a Tiflis book market where Yelov worked. But this was not just any book market. Recounts Gurdjieff, “I returned to Tiflis chiefly because I could obtain there any book I wanted. In this city, both then and the last time I stopped there, it was easy to find any rare book in any language, especially in Armenian, Georgian and Arabic.” Certainly Enoch, the lost book of the Jews, set before the flood and describing the first human to perfect himself, must have been at the top of Gurdjieff’s shopping list. Were Gurdjieff and Yelov able to get their hands on it or was Enoch the book that got away?

Armstrong’s Interview: Oprah Finally Hitting The Jackpot?

Posted by addisethiopia / አዲስ ኢትዮጵያ on January 16, 2013

OprahArmstrong2Lance Armstrong has chosen TV-confession-godmother, Oprah Winfrey for his doping confession. No coincidence: The talk Queen presides over a marketing-machine of guilt, Atonement, profit. Besides, it looks a though she also needs the interview.

It started in Hawaii where both Lance Armstrong and Oprah Winfrey coincidentally spent their Christmas vacation — ex-cyclist on the Big Island, the talk Queen on Maui . Winfrey had already asked the deposed Armstrong for an interview, now she used the chance to hook up.

One hand washes the other. Armstrong needs a stage, Winfrey needs ratings and a dedicated viewing audience. Together they glorify doping scam to the Hollywood script – Happy ending included — at the end of the day both sides benefit.

Actually, CBS itself wanted to have interview with the disgraced 7-times tour-de-France champion. But it pulled the short straw against Winfrey – an former cheerleader of Armstrong, whose ‘OWN’ media conglomerate is co-owned by Discovery, which once sponsored Armstrong’s cycling team, US postal. In Gayle King, Oprah has her best friend at CBS, co-host of “CBS This Morning” .

So, she was able to make a smart move there when CBS allowed her to cast even more teasers , ”I was satisfied ” & ” He did not come clean in the manner I expected ”.

Oprah even brought Michael Jackson to talk

Behind Oprah’s media empire there is a huge, profitable marketing machine. A media-industrial complex of celebrity confession, that moves billions and whose ruler is Oprah Winfrey.

To see “Who Owns What on Television” click here

As Winfrey 2011 celebrated the last episode of her talk show after 25 years and more than 5,000 episodes, superstars gave her the last escort: Madonna, Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Beyoncé, Halle Berry, Will Smith, Jamie Foxx – they were all in tears at her studio couch – the once poverty-stricken Winfrey was helped this way to turn her talent into a billion dollar fortune.

Winfrey’s unparalleled influence on culture – often called “the Oprah effect” – has boosted lesser-known authors onto the New York Times best-sellers list There are some who have reached celebrity status due to Oprah’s influence. Here are 10 people we wouldn’t have met if the queen of talk shows hadn’t introduced audiences to them:

The “Oprah effect” faded as Winfrey switched to her own network. But, ‘OWN’ did not come out of the popularity rating cellar. Only after she comes up with the tabloid-oriented celebrity confession format, was she able to rise her popularity again. With series of interviews comes “Oprah’s next chapter,” headlines, viewers and stars returned: George Lucas, David Letterman, Bette Midler, Whitney Houston.

Godmother of the confessional media setting and unquestioned arbiter of self-help and spiritual trends, Oprah’s influence on broader pop culture is peerless.” (Time)

Now, as a logical consequence, Lance Armstrong comes to confess to Oprah – and with The Interview of 2013 “Biggest I’ve Ever Done!”, she probably hit the jackpot again.

According to the Ethiopian Orthodox Christian tradition, in the Sacrament of Confession/Penance, individuals confess their sins to the priest, especially those which have the mastery over the sinner. The reason for confessing sins to the priest are:

– In order to get through him absolution from all his sins.
– In order that the penitent can get his spiritual advice as to the way to conquer his temptations and lead the holy life.

But, in the US media/entertainment business the sacrament promises salvation from sins of VIP and PR disasters – and the High Priestess, who have the mastery over the sinners is Oprah Winfrey. .

As the ESPN reporter Don Van Natta Jr. posted on Twitter, “You don’t go on Oprah to confess. You go on Oprah to be forgiven.” Or, at least, debt forgiveness and the final million-audience of his lifetime.

It is an ancient ritual. Doping, drugs, adultery, fraud, corruption, even murder and manslaughter: A disgraced star can buy freely in front of cameras. The media plays moral guardian, but it even makes more money – during the fall and resurrection. Sin? Atonement? The difference vanishes into crocodile tears.

The pre-recorded interview will be aired on Thursday, 17/01/2013.
